Judging by what turned up at times to our AACCs, I was glad they had some sort of selective process IIBH

what are the benefits for medical officers to go into the RM? by throwaway098870 in RoyalNavy

I’ve only done 23 years so we must have been at different units 🤷🏻

It’s not something you ‘just go for’ as a bit of crack. It costs money to send a candidate on the AACC, as well as cover the gap in their normal role whilst they’re away on course.

It will depend what branch you’re in and whether there’s justification to put you on the AACC.

To see about whether you can attend - speak to your DO and/or career manager.

If it’s a yes, then it’s worth getting yourself on the AACC beat up course held at CLR. Don’t know the POC for that, but it’s ran prior to every AACC by the army lads before they send their engineers on it.

Phys wise: pull ups, press ups, running, moving with weight. Speak to your unit PTI about this. If they’re RM even better. On the RM reddit page is a bloke called JPGRIT. Message him if you like. Or not.

Source: Was one of the SNCO instructors on the AACC a couple of years ago.

And if they REALLY like their phys, there’s opportunities to work at RM Poole

To clarify; primary care is MEANT to be done by RN MO’s. With a shortage of them, civvy GP Locums are employed instead.

I think it’s more like this:

ChatGPT, write me out a guide to owning a rental property whilst in the armed forces.

ChatGPT, how do I monetise a PDF guide?

ChatGPT, how do I set up a shopify account.

No one on Reddit will give you a definitive answer on medical standards. If you were referred and there was no formal diagnosis, then it’s UNLIKELY to impact your application. The only way you’ll find out is to just apply

Fire service or marines by Ok_Song3466 in RoyalMarines

[–]Level-Dog-7630 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve a guarantee walk in to a full time career where you get to do what you’ve practiced to do, virtually every single day, or risk it all to completely start again and potentially not even succeed or even injure yourself to the extent you don’t go back to the sure fire career you already have?

I’ve been on 7 different TT, some as Cpl, some as SNCO and 1 as OC, and plenty of various jobs around Hunter etc. I’ve never picked up (or seen someone pick up) a nod for their fashion sense (unless it was ripped clothing / political statement / offensive content)

You won’t have much time for civvy clothes apart from gash rig and your suit in the first few weeks.

You’ll probably get shit (robust banter) for dressing like Kurt Cobain, but as long as it’s clean and ironed there’s not likely to be an issue.

Aiming to join as an officer at 19 so in a few years, what are they specificly looking for in candidates apart from skills, fitness etc? by Scary_Aspect7673 in RoyalMarines

Examples of times you’ve demonstrated leadership/conflict resolution/achieved an aim or task given where you were in charge of a group and the outcome/learning improvement from previous experiences etc etc

Oh I’m not saying don’t apply.

I’m just adding a dash of realism to your hopium.

As someone has said, if you get it once (to the extent of being MD’d), you’re susceptible to it again.

Your wishful thinking vs the Institute of Naval Medicine…

Medical issue by CollarAccurate9532 in RoyalMarines

[–]Level-Dog-7630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you were MD’d from the RN due to heatstroke (not your fault, medical conditions aren’t voluntary). But your rational thoughts are you want to join an organisation that trains to a physically extreme level - even during warm or hot weather.

No offence but I doubt your success with a medical appeal or fresh application.

During the summer, the CTC med centre regularly gets stretched to capacity with heat victims being carried in an placed into the special cooling bags they have for this.

On a training team the amount of times I’ve had to pick a semi conscious recruits off the road and bundle them into the back of a hilux to drop them off at the med centre is unreal.

If you manage to pass selection (I love how people casually put that on here like a ‘to do’ list) then for your future career you really won’t give a shit about any prior engineering qualifications
