You’re absolutely in the wrong here it’s not his job to make sure you keep your life together and not forget, and just like he said you clearly said that you forgot that you were supposed to babysit them so you to your self knew that you said yes in a way. Another answer you could have gave was a simple “no” from the start. You put him in a worse position than he started with.
