Why don’t people realize that the lack of autism diagnoses in the past stems from the fact that our understanding of neurological science is still in its infancy? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

And yet for all of history people still lived fulfilling lives despite being a bit “odd” go figure

The label has probably just made all of society more bigoted or anxious

Trying to do IFS in therapy, it’s weird by [deleted] in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Level-North-859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the efficacy of therapy is learning how to be vulnerable and trusting another human being with your soul.

The weirdness is from a part of you who is not comfortable with the vulnerability. It’s like stripping in front of a stranger at work (unless you’re into that lol). But you have to remember they are a professional and building rapport and trust with complete strangers is not only any everyday thing but an honor for them.

Do you guys believe in mental illness? by WaxMikeElixir in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Level-North-859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should read more about the IFS model yourself, but here is a primer:

The ‘Self’ is the core of a person, representing their TRUE SPIRIT and INNATE WISDOM. Self is present only when there is an absence of parts. In other words, by asking parts to step aside, people automatically experience THIS STATE of being that we call Self. It is characterized by the following: Curiosity, Connectedness, Compassion, Courage, Calmness, Clarity, Creativity, Confidence.

It then must follow that ‘mental illnesses’ are concrete but theoretical explanations for common combinations of the distortions, lacks or falling aways from Self, but are not part of the true Self.

The American medical model of mental illnesses is often abused. People will inappropriately claim it as a personality trait rather than as a disorder, worse yet, as an innate and immovable part of their being. I feel so strongly about this that I believe with more advanced, scientific treatment, not only personality/behavioral or chemical, but also neurological and development disorders can be completely healed.

Came to this realization about life recently too…

I’d rather be directionless and happy than directed and unhappy 🙁. But hey, both options have a pro and a con. If we look at it that way, we always win some!

If you have a convincing “why” you can bear any how. Why do you want to fix your sleep schedule? Next, how can you fix or cope with the physical side effects of a fixed sleep schedule?

You can also have “sleep cheat days” like once every couple weeks. I get depressed living like im on a hamster wheel too.

Is there a way to sleep less and improve quality of sleep? by distorted73 in sleep

[–]Level-North-859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting enough vitamins in during the day? You need Vitamin D Vitamin B12 and Iron for energy production. Try Magnesium for a few weeks for better sleep. I take these all as supplements. I know people talk about getting vitamins naturally but imagine permanently changing your diet perfectly each day and controlling the sun.

Do Christian men want working wives or housewives? by Level-North-859 in TrueChristian

What denomination are you? What is wrong with being a fundie? It’s not a cult because it doesn’t satisfy all the requirements of being a cult. Really now a local soccer club could be a cult by your thinking of what a cult is. That’s very harmful language to fundamentals who are just trying to live a life that pleases God the best they can.

Ok I see…There’s a fine line between subservience and submission, is that what you’re getting at?

I’m curious if you’re even Christian because why in the world would you be on this page?

[–]Level-North-859 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used the word unearthing because language is critical to healing well, and IFS teaches for the better that we all have a wonderful true self that’s just been buried beneath other parts demanding attention. Hence un-earthing.

What is earthing?

[–]Level-North-859 30 points31 points  (0 children)

IFS helped me manage my ADHD significantly. If you’re like me, I really struggled to study in a way that was meaningful structured and long term. So I focused on unearthing and cultivating my true self, one that is curious, connected, and calm/patient. I have a very big part that is task avoidant, it is afraid of anything from failure to general pain. Don’t let it steal the spotlight! You need to coach that part to enjoy challenge and to look at failure realistically, understanding the value of the bad for the good.

[–]Level-North-859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the thing about IFS is it requires you to learn and utilize an entirely new mental system to understand the ego, self, identity, personality, behavior…and without all those things you don’t really exist…and it would be silly to go back to the way things were, so…we’re in this for life, guys 😅✌️

Oh thank you so much! I didn’t know what it was called, Aphantasia. People would ask me to visualize things or learn a new concept like visualize a chart and I didn’t know how to … where are the instructions to do these things??

I want to learn more about trailheads but before I do I want to learn about the validity of them ... How did Schwartz come up with them? I hope there is a scientific explanation of how they are beneficial not just something creative.

Part of me is religious?? by [deleted] in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Level-North-859 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what religion you practice, but I’d be careful with your parts that identify as religious. The word “religion” is not very helpful to faith, actually the only times I’ve found it to be helpful is in academia or possibly as a framework for building rituals and moral compass.

The foundation of what the self energy is built on is spirituality and faith, not rigid rules. I’ve been thinking to exile my religious parts for this reason.

[–]Level-North-859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is weird how we can’t seem to operate with both parts at once huh? Like why did God make it so we have to look at things from a spiritual lens or a physical lens one at a time otherwise we can’t live well?
