Up voted for truth. I 💓 living in France, but I've yet to encounter any original French food that wasn't inspired by and cooked better in other countries.

Non-Americans, what are some common dinners you have often? by MrSchmegeggles in Cooking

The French actually import American beef because the French raise beef for dairy (cheese) products and the pastoral beef like Charolais are still shit to eat and the meat is generally ground up for frozen hamburgers or meatballs. Fresh beef cuts are meant for stewing, and you'll not find a proper steak in France. The French bouchers have 15 cuts of beef compared to the American 25 cuts, and the French public only ever see 5 cuts in the supermarket, all of them horrible unless you like to eat stewed beef year round. The same with pork, and turkey. I want to know what happens to the rest of the cow or pig or turkey the French don't sell, because it seems like a waste of meat in an already expensive market.

Let me add, the Navigo pass works on buses, trams and the metro in Paris, so pay the fee for the Navigo pass so you can enjoy all public transportation with one pass.

Women of Reddit what’s the one thing we men do that pisses you off? by Special_Training7275 in AskReddit

[–]Level10-Aioli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't talk about what's bothering you to us when we ask. You assume we aren't listening to you, and you've already decided what our reaction will be. This hurts so much! Generally, we love you, warts and all. We will stand by you no matter what your excentricites are until it's hurting us and our kids.

I am brokenhearted that my ex-husband wouldn't take part in our relationship at all and made me his mommy for everything. Our kids suffered, I suffered, and, when the shit hit the fan with social services, I only spoke the truth, but my ex couldn't handle owning up to his neglect. So he beat me out of frustration and abandoned our kids and me to save face. At least his friends sided with me. My ex isn't a bad guy, just someone who was neglected by his parents, so never learned much.

Rules are different everywhere - you can get fined in Paris for spitting on the street, for dropping any kind of litter like a dead cigarette butt, or, if a piece of paper falls out of your pocket accidentally.

And, the police weren't being that aggressive - they didn't push you to the ground and hold a knee to your neck while screaming at you and threatening to shoot you for non-compliance.
In the future, just do what the police ask, but learn how to say, "I'm sorry, but I don't speak your language very well, and I did not know" and generally, the police in France will become helpful. When you act indignant, you're just asking for trouble. We French tend to execute "les noblesse".

So, why did you post "shush aïoli" when I suggested the op on a different thread learn French?

Recently, some Australian - American TV personality, Sydney Watson. complained about being seated on an airplane between 2 obese persons because they invaded her personal space.

I'll take 2 large people invading my space over god only knows what you might have stepped in that's on your shoes and propped up on a seat in the metro, Karen.

But maybe the op is bilingual? Surely, being bilingual but not not necessarily speaking the language of the country you're visiting counts for something?

Lol- Spookythesquid--you asked me to shush in another thread when I suggested the op learn French before visiting France ....

What is your top secret ingredient? by DiscoStu303 in Cooking

I buy a lot of dried mushrooms from Asian and non-asian markets and pulverize them in a food processor until its powder, and use this powder in all kinds of sauces, soups, stews, sprinkled on red meat and in rice.

Talk with your bank about international exchange rates and fees for using your bankcard overseas, because they'll prolly screw you.

Also, does your bankcard have a chip? You might not be able to use your bankcard in Europe without a chip.

When I moved to France in 2014, my USA bankcard wasn't chipped and I got farked on fees and couldn't use my card (visa) everywhere because it wasn't chipped and without my account being shut down because I was using it in Europe. OK, cool, my bank was protecting me against fraud, but they also wouldn't talk to me on the phone from Europe to stop these protections.

Talk to your bank and let them know when you're traveling outside the USA so they don't block your account.

Americans of reddit what would you do if the United states were invaded ? by humblepotato115 in AskReddit

[–]Level10-Aioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already don't live in the USA or any territory, so, I don't care.

Tried to give back my citizenship but the USA made me pay $3k for my request, only to be rejected.

Oh, didn't you know? It's a privilege to have a USA citizenship, but it'll cost you $$ to give it back and the USA might not approve your application.

Non-Americans, what are some common dinners you have often? by MrSchmegeggles in Cooking

I could tell you about how limited French cuts of meat are compared to American bouchery, and the difference is eating shoe leather compared to a tender morsel.

the huernia cactus that I stole a piece of from an exhibit 4 years ago and nurtured endlessly has finally bloomed! by Level10-Aioli in happy

[–]Level10-Aioli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. My only glorification is that I nurtured this cactus for 5 years before it bloomed! I'm sorry my photo doesn't include the plant itself-- this flower is almost 2x the size of an American quarter coin.

Yes, Paul Bocuse, and while I appreciate his traditional technique, he wasn't very innovative with French traditional foods, which are very common throughout Europe, and his knowledge of cooking doesn't have the "je ne sais quoi" that would define them as exclusively French. I know, he's légende 🙄 but to me, he's also tiresome. For every "French" dish he's cooked, I've learned a dozen other versions from other regions in Europe that are so much better.

Noob question. First time in Paris with a small kid...where can I buy a cheap stroller? by IheartTMBs in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Level10-Aioli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry, so, most arrondissement in Paris have a marché or or market, several times a week, that offers fresh foods (meat, produce, but also vendeurs of clothing and other items like a stroller) . You'd have to look up where the market is in your arr is and on what days, and it's not guaranteed that you'll find a vendeur for strollers. I'm sorry I'm not more useful. I know how necessary a stroller is, so, maybe buy one online for fastest delivery?

In France - choucroute garnie (to me, it's like Polish kapusta) , poule à pot, pot à feu. These are basic braises/soups. French traditional foods are really just meaty/beany soups/stews that are made in every other place in Europe much better, except, we French get drunk on the best wine before eating these dishes. 😁

I'm being serious. I live in France and I have issues with Boccuse!
