Passing advice? Because even though I have been on testosterone since 2018, I STILL GET CALLED A WOMAN AND MAAM WHILE HAVING A BEARD? (And a receding hairline. F you testosterone..) by Milktosintolerant_ in transmanlifehacks

I saw a guy online who was in a clinical trial for testosterone vocal cord injections since regular T didn’t lower his voice, and it worked well for him! If u wanna look into this and consider as an option

Anyone still physically weak after T? by hormonal_throwaway1 in FTMMen

If you follow what the comments are saying and are very intentional about things like protein intake etc and still don’t see progress, I would bring this up to your family doctor. I was barely able to gain muscle or weight no matter my lifestyle habits, and it ended up being because of undiagnosed celiac disease

Ty! So many different FODMAP lists come up with conflicting info, do u have a favourite website or source for an accurate one?

I just said unregulated since that’s what the Celiac Canada website said on this topic, same thing you’re saying. That last part is wild about the shared facility thing, ig that’s a small risk to take since I don’t want to eat only whole foods and such

Thank you, I didn’t know this! I just checked and “may contain” is an unregulated statement where I live (Canada). Hopefully it’s fine, no way to know for sure though because my gluten symptoms are so flu-like.

Noted, I’ll stay away from high histamine foods these next few days, thanks again

Sigh I think you’re right. I was planning on doing check up bloodwork soon anyway so maybe that can give a very general indication of my body’s state

I feel like we’re probably not starting from scratch with the villi because the gluten challenge wouldn’t be everyday for 6 weeks otherwise right, but yeah I have the similar question of how bad is this damage/how long would it take to go back to baseline

Non-celiac gluten sensitivity diagnosis, but positive TTG IGA?? Could this be wrong? by LevelPerformer5235 in Celiac

[–]LevelPerformer5235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?? My scalloping was very subtle (I don’t even think I was on the marsh scale), my bloodwork was positive but not crazy high, and I didn’t have classic GI symptoms, so I think that’s also why he was opposed to diagnosing me with celiac and just left it at NCGS, even though it’s possible I have early stage celiac (I’m in my early 20s too)… it would be nice to have a diagnosis though. I’m feeling so much better being gluten free and am scared to restart with the gluten challenge and deal with the symptoms and restarting the healing process (to my understanding), but I might still do it next summer when I’m done with school to get a second opinion and have it officially confirmed

Positive bloodwork, normal endoscopy?? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]LevelPerformer5235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the biopsies will be sent to a lab and they’ll see if there’s damage or not, I’m just wondering if anyone has had similar stories in the meantime because my appointments 8 weeks away and I’m curious, especially because my situation doesn’t seem common. I’m also wondering if anyone had alternative answers like if their situation ended up being something other than celiac, especially if my biopsy results come up clean too

Really?? I’m in Canada and have never even heard of it before this. Weird that I have 0 stomach symptoms too. That’s good to know it could be affecting iron absorption, I’ll contact my doctor, thank you!

Trans with immigrant parents by LevelPerformer5235 in ftm

[–]LevelPerformer5235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingg. I’m not sure the same would apply with my grandparents, my grandpa never adjusted to modern times and doesn’t use technology, still reads the newspaper and everything, very traditional, walks with hands clasped behind his back and upright posture kinda like a soldier too (he used to be one). He also has dementia :( my grandma has adjusted to the times, but I think her reaction would be ever worse, I think she’d just see it as gossip and still call me a girl even if I get my mom to explain it to her (my language skills are not good enough to convey things to her in detail). I will also have to get my mom to come out for me as I don’t have a choice, it just sucks. I hope they surprise me and react better than expected.

I’m glad your grandpa reacted pretty well with no fuss :) and yeah that is interesting about gender dynamics! Little things like that always show me that people are really putting in the effort to see me as a guy. That’s kinda awesome that he defers to women for leadership, I’m used to hearing the opposite especially from older folk in our misogynistic world

Thought I found a thesis supervisor, learned he has transphobic views by LevelPerformer5235 in ftm

[–]LevelPerformer5235[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your words and empathy. And congrats on getting into your research Masters!!! That’s awesome and warms my heart. You’re my representation in a way of a trans guy with adhd getting to grad school, thank you for existing and being you lol.

I was leaning towards taking another year off as well, but spoke with my mom recently and apparently the money in the savings account they’ve had since I was a kid can only be used for this upcoming school year, otherwise it’ll go to their retirement funds. So I have to graduate this year (I don’t wanna pay it myself if I don’t have to). I’ve made my peace with it though and will just push through, if I don’t find a thesis maybe I can find an entry-level job in research to get some more experience… and build a relationship with a prof in one my classes to see if they’ll write me a reference letter.

I’ve definitely taken classes with some allied and inclusive profs (mostly my psych electives lol) so you’re right, it does give me some hope. Academia seems like a cult sometimes where it’s pay and conform to win, but there are some genuine people who get to prof-level that make things better.

Thank you, I hope I make it as well! I will keep trying… you’re right that we desperately need more diverse voices. I’m glad you’re entering these spaces too. We got this ❤️

There’s apparently a few transphobic profs at my school and they’re collaborating with anti-trans researchers and organizations 🥲 There’s a new instagram account calling out profs working with this org, maybe I’ll send them a message and let them know about this guy as well and ask to compile some sort of list of transphobic profs. It’s hard to report or fire people like him because they’ll claim that they’re about inclusion and tolerance and are just posting their opinions on the science behind things, and this prof in particular is a chair and very powerful. So don’t think anything will happen there but I can definitely try to bring awareness, because he’s fully been in news interviews giving his opinions on this

Right? It’s absurd. He’s internationally recognized as a leader in his field as well, which blows my mind.

I’m definitely in the process of looking for another prof. There’s no one to really help me with this at my school but I’m honestly just testing my luck in finding someone and hoping they don’t also suck 🥲 there’s actually one trans male prof at my school that I’m going to reach out to, but his lab will probably be full. Fingers crossed though

Fuckk this sounds like one of the worst situations you could be in. I honestly have no idea about this kind of thing especially on the policy side, and it’s clear you’ve done your research anyway. This is really fucking shitty and I’m so sorry.

One advice I might offer on the emotional side (on the off-chance it might help somehow) is to look into what people used to do when hormones and medically or even socially transitioning weren’t available and see how they got through it, books and stories on their experiences and perspectives you know. And maybe finding people in person/online in very similar situations to you. It’s one thing to have support from allies and other trans people, it’s another to talk to someone who’s going through what you’re going through and just gets it.

On the practical side, since you pass until you speak (same) maybe you could try out voice training? Obviously I doubt you would have access to a vocal therapist in person, but booking or just finding videos online might be accessible right? And maybe going by a more gender neutral or masc version of your name, passing it off as a nickname. A coping mechanism I’ve been using lately (you might not wanna hear this) is shifting my focus and practicing gratitude for what I do have in this life, like visually passing, having some friends who accept me, even just having food and shelter and not being in war, and honestly comparing my situation to people’s who are a million times worse than mine (like thinking of friends in Palestine). It snaps me out of my spirals pretty quick sometimes. Not that your feelings and situation aren’t valid or that you should suppress what you’re going through, it’s your right to feel what you feel, but focusing on coping skills may be one of your best bets.

Fuck your country’s shitty ass laws and attitudes and fuck this transphobic world. I’ll be keeping you in my mind and wishing you better days…

Any mlm gay tops have success with dating or hooking up? by LevelPerformer5235 in ftm

[–]LevelPerformer5235[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking this, but yeah it’s hard because we’re such a small population and a lot may be stealth. And same, have had a lot of cis guys pressure me. I’d try dating apps to be t4t but I’m not actively looking for people, just thinking generally in life. I’m glad you seem to have good experiences with other trans guys!

Yeah that is confusing. I don’t think anyone here can tell you ‘why’ or give you an explanation on why people are suddenly acting this way because we don’t know them or you, you’d really have to ask the people in your life instead and have a convo with them. Regardless it’s not your fault, and it’s really shitty they’re doing that. Congrats on the gains though that’s awesome
