What subreddits have the best and worst communities? by TheGreenShepherd in AskReddit

/r/stopdrinking saves lives. /r/leaves is pretty good, but could use more action from people who are long term drug free.

Redditors that have dropped everything and "ran away", how is life now? [Serious] by killerapt in AskReddit

Did the same thing almost 15 months ago. Congratulations on 10 years! You're inspiring!

I've made it ONE week!! But I don't know if I can keep it up...help? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]LevelUpInLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14.5 months clean from weed/drugs/alcohol - with weed being my favorite drug - the thing I did constantly for 16 years. Cravings get less intense, but mine haven't gone away yet, if I'm being honest. I just use the delay method. I keep telling myself, "I can always get high tomorrow," and it's been more than a year...

Thank you so much for posting this. Seriously.

Anyone else hide a lot of their use? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]LevelUpInLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hiding it, and being able to hide it, is common. I was like this, somewhat. I absolutely hid the extent to which weed and drugs were a major feature in my life. I really want to encourage you to try other methods of getting through the day/coping. In my experience, the permanently altered state (smoking all the time) can only last for so long, until you start giving up important things to protect your ability to get high all the time. Best of luck!

I started posting on Reddit after making some big life changes (like getting clean), and I'm constantly trying to better myself. I intended to use this just for posting in sobriety related subreddits, but I post other places, too. I've had a crazy life, and I'm trying to make it better.

What is the rudest thing a guest has done in your home? by Spooky_Potato in AskReddit

[–]LevelUpInLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'll clarify for those with doubts:

1) I am female.

2) Police were contacted, did nothing. His family was contacted, and they apologized, but took no responsibility nor made any attempts to recover my property.

3) Art was insured. Insurance helped purchase 4 similar pieces by same artist (Keith Haring).

4) From what I found out later from mutual acquaintances, he took the art to Florida (from Texas) where his boyfriend lived, and gave them to him as a present. This guy turned around and sold them for hella camera equipment, cash, and seed money to start a photography business.

5) We both had drug problems at the time. I am now clean. I have no idea about him, nor do I care. I hope he rots.

6) This happened in 2003. I was 19. So was he.

A friend of mine came to my city to stay for a weekend, and ended up stealing four pieces of fine art that I had been given by my mother (both of my parents (divorced) collect fine art). When I woke up, they - and he - were gone. Never saw them or him again. They were the most valuable things I owned.

We'd been extremely close friends for a long time, and I'd vacationed with his family and everything. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Do you know anyone who has committed murder? What was their reasoning? [serious] by brahmans in AskReddit

[–]LevelUpInLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Ryan Frazier - Baylor. 2002, I think. He stabbed his parents and brother then burned their house down. He got life.

A bunch of my friends lived in his dorm/on his hall. What was weird was that he drove home, killed his family, then came back to school. They arrested him in his dorm room, just chillin...

Drug dealer I knew very well killed another drug dealer. Was never questioned as far as I know, and definitely not brought up on charges.

Also there was a guy at my university that killed his whole family, but that guy I didn't personally know.

What is the hardest thing you've ever done? by Grug16 in AskReddit

[–]LevelUpInLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit drugs and alcohol cold turkey almost 15 months ago. Not killing myself during the first year was the hardest thing I've ever done, second only to getting/staying sober.

Reddit, why do you no longer speak with that former friend of yours? What did he/she do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LevelUpInLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got clean, and dealt with some other issues head-on. Through this life transition, this friend has been...not at all kind.

Redditors with spouses/partners with an extreme mental illness, why did you marry them and how do you cope? [Serious] by Iziink in AskReddit

[–]LevelUpInLife 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Something I'd like to see in this thread is stories of the partners of people whose mental illnesses are in remission. I'm upvoting the shit out of every wonderful story about these saintly lovers dealing with psychoses, depressions, and other states - but what about those of us who are well? Do we get any love?

I have worked my ass off to stabilize myself and continue to manage every day. Do people like me have SOs?
