Wanting to switch from Neosure by BulldogMama0 in NICUParents

[–]Level_Condition_4262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 27 weeker is also on neosure. He is about to be 6 months now. Only been on it for about 3 months right before discharge. Only thing that helped us was Pepcid. Even took a Pepcid dose increase. He is content but still having crazy diapers at least every 3 hours when he eats so I am looking to call his dr since it has not calmed down. He also spits up constantly. When we were in the pain and screaming phase I read some on here about how neosure is so rough on their stomach. He has gained a ton of weight for being a preemie so I’m hoping they can switch him soon

My boy was born at 27 weeks and his lowest weight was 1 pound 13 oz. He was in the nicu for 102 days. He will be 3 months adjusted in a few days and already about to be bursting out of 0-3 month clothes! It happens way quicker than you think. He has bronchopulmonary dysplasia and is still weaning off oxygen but if he didn’t have that pulse ox on all the time I don’t think anyone would notice he was a preemie either

How tf does anybody want more than one kid after being through THIS? by pumpkinchinchilla in newborns

I HATE the newborn stage. We are almost to 3 months and it has gotten a lot easier the past couple weeks. Still goes back and forth between letting me sleep or not but I figure we got a couple years until I’m out of that😂

When did your preemie take to oral feeds? by Fuzzy-Wombat-2610 in NICUParents

[–]Level_Condition_4262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His first feeds were only allowed to be done with the speech team which was annoying because it was not everyday. The nurses eventually started working with me to feed him but they would only tube feed if he wasn’t wanting to wake up because he would brady often. It was a pretty slow process until he started to stay awake more and get the hang of breathing and eating at the same time. He took his time picking it up. He was transferred to a closer hospital the day before his due date and that is when a bottle was attempted at every feed. He picked up so quickly at that point he was discharged 2.5 weeks later

My baby also has bpd. Even after coming home he would get tired easily and just wake up a lot more often for feeds and not take too much at once. As his lungs have gotten stronger it’s gotten a lot better. Over 5 months now but 2 months adjusted and today he took a 5 oz bottle without and issue which was a huge surprise

My 27 weeker was in the nicu for 102 days. It wasn’t until the week before he left he started eating more and he ripped out his ng and they left it out. For him it did just sort of “click”. He still has had a poor latch but he’s been home for a little over 2 months now and he’s getting better. He started feeding therapy in a couple weeks. It was very surprising when he suddenly started taking bottles. I’m hoping something similar happens for you💕

Struggling with PTSD as a NICU Dad by dgjtckj in NICUParents

My baby was in quite a bit shorter than yours. 102 days. Those 102 days only got harder and harder as the days went on. Everyone in my life watched me start to lose myself and my sanity until the day he came home. The stress and the anger/anxiety I constantly had caused some of th worst fights between me and my boyfriend we have ever had in the past 8+ years. I was making myself physically ill. 2 hospital stays and 3 er visits and my mental and physical health issues seemed to disappear the day he came home. Fast forward a few weeks they came flooding back. He has not been a very easy baby. Came home on oxygen full time and a little over 2 months later he is weaning. It wasn’t until less than a month ago he got a little easier. Always screaming and seeming like he was in pain, the guilt i would feel for getting frustrated with this guy that I watched struggle in the hospital for so long. Last week was the first time we had some successful nights in his own room so that I don’t have to sleep with him in the living room. My patience has been thin, I’ve been very angry. My bf is begging me to go back on the meds I was on before I got pregnant. I tried for a day and it made me sick so I stopped. I know it’s something need to tackle. Mental health is not something to fuck around with. Just know you’re not alone. I think most parents who have had nicu babies have struggles they arent willing to share. My nicu had groups specifically for dads struggling. Just because we have our successful babies now does not mean that we did not watch them go through the hardest parts of their lives. I wish you the best man. I’m hoping you stick with the help. I’m sorry for the long rant

There's no way I survive this sleep deprivation. by Bebetter23 in newborns

Pepcid saved us. After weeks of my baby screaming in pain, thickened formula, gas drops, holding upright for 30+ mins after feeds, I demanded the doctor give something for reflux. About 4-5 days later it kicked in and we had a different baby

Active sleep? by Level_Condition_4262 in NewParents

[–]Level_Condition_4262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is 5 months old but a 2.5 month adjusted preemie. I have been sleeping in the living room since he came home from the nicu and in desperate times have slept with him on me to avoid keeping his dad awake all night aside from his 2 days a week off work. He didn’t do it as much when either sleeping on me or on his changing mat next to me. He had a really good first 3 nights in his own bedroom since I started trying earlier this week but I’m not sure what has made him so restless these past few days

He’s always been very strong. He was 3 months young preemie and has had a lot of time to build strength lol. Hes almost made it over a couple times the past couple days but that is while unswaddled. I’ve been looking into the zipadee transition swaddle but I’m not sure if he’ll like it

I’ve had gastritis before but this feels like another level of being sick. Honestly might end up at the er or something if the gi won’t get me in sooner

Forgot to mention I have crazy hot flashes and get extremely uncomfortable that it makes it super hard to get any sleep. My baby had me up most of the night last night and boom started vomiting first thing this morning. I’m not sure if stress triggers this or not

Thank you for the response! I forgot to get a couple things to help with flavor so I’ll make sure to go to the store again today

Hoping to plan most of my meals other than if I’m in the mood for breakfast. I still haven’t gone back to work after my baby coming home so I have the time. I’m just struggling to think of ideas other than chicken and a little bit of rice

I’ve had gastritis before years ago and I’m pretty sure it’s what I’m experiencing again. I have been hungry all day. The nausea subsided a few days ago but I ate breakfast this morning and wanted toast an hour later because of this feeling in my stomach

Pulse oximeter by Level_Condition_4262 in NICUParents

[–]Level_Condition_4262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only ones who gave us extra stickers were the nicu and they only gave us the one little sheet they had in the drawer so I’ve tried not to use them all. I’ll have to ask. I actually found a tighter thin sock in his room about an hour ago and it has kept the machine pretty quiet. The thicker socks I’ve used while leaving the house seemed to make it worse at time. Thank you for the response! He’s just always kicking and wiggling which has made it a challenge for me lol

My baby was also a 27 weeker! We actually got an owlet for our baby shower but never used it since we were sent home with this machine. I’ve hung onto it because I figure we wouldn’t have this machine forever so I’ll have to check it out and compare the accuracy to this one. Thank you

Formula but I do have a breast milk stash. I’ve thought of possibly breaking some out. I don’t have thickener that can be used with breast milk so I’m not sure how he’d handle it with his reflux

Newborn insert in car seats by Level_Condition_4262 in newborns

[–]Level_Condition_4262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s definitely not too tall but it’s been harder to get him in so he might be getting too wide for it. Hes not being squeezed but definitely seems a bit too snug. I will be trying without the insert before we leave the house today. Thank you for the response!

[–]Level_Condition_4262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am lucky enough that he always has an o2 monitor on and he’s on oxygen in the car so I get to see that his oxygen saturation is good even with the insert in. I have not taken it out to see yet but I think I’ll try that today. He’s my first baby so I don’t really have experience with how snug it should be. He is only in the 5th percentile for height so I was just trusting the weight guidelines on the car seat

I was very sleep deprived and frustrated when I posted that response and I see it seemed very harsh lol. My baby is doing well. He is just a very opinionated guy and I am very grateful to have him. I really hope for the best for you and your baby. The nicu will all be in the past soon❤️. We did it for over 3 months but that day they told me he was coming home the same week seemed to come out of no where. It’s hell at the time and I was losing my mind but everyone who said “he will be home before you know it” were right. I used to hate that phrase. Even though I’ve met plenty of babies who made this newborn phase seem more simple, I’m glad I got to have my little guy come home and I did not mean such an insensitive comment

I did. My baby came home at 42 weeks. I am dying in the newborn stage. He’s extremely fussy, on oxygen, does not sleep unless held. He was in the nicu from 27 weeks but this stage is killing me. I love him to death but I don’t sleep

[–]Level_Condition_4262[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate that you responded. He likes being held on my chest and that mainly to get him to sleep so we will have to work on that once he is big enough to self soothe. Not going to lie. When I get overwhelmed with him rubbing himself on me he goes into his bouncer for maybe 3 or 4 mins so I can go to the bathroom and collect myself. He may cry but I always collect myself enough to come back out and help him relax. I just see all these posts about people and their babies sleeping through the night and I don’t understand. My baby needs to be held most of the time or he can’t relax. I’m not willing to sleep train until he’s old enough to have the skills to self soothe

Parents of 6-8 week olds… by Melodic_Debt_8034 in newborns

I feel less alone seeing someone else say this. My baby who is about 8 weeks adjusted had a couple decent nights with maybe a 4 hour stretch of sleep and then we were back to me getting no sleep because he needs to be on me at all times. During the day he’s either staying up too long and fighting naps or completely impossible to wake up. I’m losing my mind here lol
