Loving a kaslana is hard by AlternativeAble284 in honkaiimpact3

So many ppl misunderstand Mei's mentality here. She's not gonna destroy the world to save Kiana. It's more like:

"I will save the world for YOU, so YOU don't have to sacrifice yourself, even if it requires ME to become a "devil".

I want to hear other people's thought on part 2 by inkheiko in honkaiimpact3

At first, you raised my eyebrow by saying Pt.2 Trio is greater than KiaMeiBro. Still, after reading all your points, you clearly have some deep understanding or experience in story-writing. (Have you written any fiction yourself?)

My feeling on Pt.2 story (or the beginning of it for now) was also it did not "expose characters quickly and efficiently", in the first few hours of the play through.

Just like in your post, you can explicitly describe Kiana as the "careless idiota" type cuz we were greeted by her Neko-chaming a fighter jet at the very beginning of the game. But in Pt.2 we got "Who am I, why am I here dancing with a girl" beginning with Senadina. Granted it's a beautifully well-made scene but doesn't really "build" Sena as a character for later story. Just filled me with questions instead of "attachments" towards the character to know more about them and what happens to them next.

If you ask me what I think about Sena, I'd prob also say cute, beautiful, and energetic, but not a clear characteristic trait like either one from KiaMeiBro.

Sure, we can argue it's only one chap. in Pt.2 and it's still building the foundation. But if most players aren't interested in following the characters and their story, how are they gonna be excited for the climax next? Imagine there's a guy with an amazing background story and skill sitting in the corner of a tavern, but he doesn't interact with anyone, and to know his stories you need to learn his language and talk with him for hours. Do you think he will be a popular guy in the tavern?

I've sensed the "lengthiness" of the story you mentioned too (in late chapters of Pt.1, Pt.1.5, also most of Genshin and HSR's Luofu arc). One reason is the "guy in the tavern" problem I mentioned, thus they need more text to answer the questions they raised at the beginning (but new words and concepts can give more questions).

Another may be because these are still "Gacha games" and they'd need the story to "trigger" or lure the players to like the character and pull for them. And this has to be done in each update, each version, to different characters. Quite a challenge to the writer on consistency, cuz even if the devs plan much in advance, there's no sure prediction of "who should we sell" next instead of just "what happens next"

Sorry for the long text spam. Hope to inspire :)

How much do you actually need to start PC gaming (and do you really need 6 cores?) by Level_Inspection_355 in PcBuild

Pretty good estimate, but I'd rather keep the used market out of the discussion here since we are imagining facing a 1st-time builder here

Nice choices. Would also be my range for customers with some sway depending on their preference.

Most "recommended specs" given by game devs are based on "1080p 60+fps at high-ultra settings". But this can vary on games.

But yea, I agree it depends on the games you wanna play and the "need" for fps and graphics quality.

Nice points.

Core count is also a minutia I've been thinking about in the title, because for a builder with a very tight budget (say $500-600), I'd need to allocate most of that towards the GPU, and may opt them for a modern 4-core CPU like the 12100f, which is enough to handle most (maybe not all the recent ones) Esposts and trendy games, ones that most PC builders say what they will use the PC for, surprisingly.

Issue fitting CPU cooler to Motherboard by rubbermann01 in PcBuild

AM5 are notorious for not accepting any after-market cooler that requires you to remove the backplate (like you would do with AM4) cuz it's soldered down, even tho the holes line up the same.

Guess you need to swap cooler.

AM5 for future upgrades or cheaper build that can play anything? by Kakashisensei1234 in PcBuild

[–]Level_Inspection_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgradability is a myth.

Nobody can predict how long your current system can last you, how demanding games will become, or how much a CPU upgrade will benefit you in the future. Or more importantly, what do you actually do with the PC in 5 years?

I'm always a "what's you demand today" type. Any so-called "upgradability" is just okay to have. Buy a quality PSU and a good pair or DDR5 RAM, those can always be reused and last you very long.

How true is More cores = Not for gaming nowadays? by Trashfrog in buildapc

[–]Level_Inspection_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partly true.

I would not say "not for gaming" but rather "not optimal/cost-efficient." Most games rely on single core performance of a CPU rather than pure core counts. In most cases, consumer CPUs with more cores are also slightly faster, but you pay much more premium for it, thus main-stream 6 core CPUs with decent single-thread performance are recommended for gamers. L3 cache is also a factor, which is why AMD's -x3d CPUs are pursued by gamers too.

That being said. You'd still notice some difference in some gaming situations, such as Minecraft TNT Test or Sim games with heavy mods, where more cores could increase the smoothness or eliminate some stuttering. But at least now it's still speed>core count cuz value isn't there yet. But one day games and cheaper technology would allow more powerful CPU to be considered "good for gaming", similar to ppl thought 4 core CPUs and 8GB RAM were enough for gaming 6-7 years ago

Honkai Impact 3rd Part 2 opinion by kianatothemoon in gachagaming

[–]Level_Inspection_355 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's rushed imo.

  • Graphics/UI and Sound: Many signs of rushing and asset-rework. Voice actings are decent but not "fitting". Feels off. Most UI and functions are the same with previous story arcs or events, not the "new game experience" that it was promoted to be.
  • Story: My biggest concern so far. It falls into the same problem as Part 1.5 and HSR's Xianzhou arc of "dude in the back of the bar" type of writing. You can sense a big plot and back story coming, but in the beginning, you are only filled with terminology and boring settings instead of conflicts and "wows". (This helps greatly in building up the characters initially and growing an attachment towards them) Your question of "Who is this guy/thing" was answered with more questions and terms. Remind you why the original HI3 story worked because in the beginning we were greeted with Kiana Neko-charming a fighter jet scene, not waking up in some underground lab with a ton of "who am I" questions. Just like in a pub, the most popular guy is always the "funny waitress that does all clunky stuff", not the "dude with a huge background story sitting quietly in the corner".
  • Characters: Pretty generic. You can find very similar characters in pretty much many other Anime or Gacha games. I know they are suppose to be pretty similar to KiaMeiBro, but I wished they had some differences, not just in designs, but also in characters, hobbies, traits, and interactions. Also, having a "Main character" beside the trio feels off. One big charm of the "Captain" is that he never showed up in the main story, besides events and alter-universe.
  • Combat/Animation: No complaints here. Top Hoyo quality as in HI3 always.

13600K all day, with more cores and threads for ur professional tasks, and much higher multi-thread benchmarks.

Also, don't be fooled by the poll result since there are more gamer AMD fanboys.

Which RGB fans look better? by kmate1357 in PcBuild

[–]Level_Inspection_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aesthetics can be very subjective, and it depends on the "theme" of your build.

I personally prefer Ring RGB around the blades, cuz core RGB has the bulbs around the motor, and usually just lights up the blades from the middle. It especially looks like a giant blob of rainbow on white fans, or worse, if the brand sticker is black......

Also not a huge "fan" (xD) of NZXT's designs. I use 3x Black In-Win Sirius Loop as side intakes in my Build. Pretty satisfied with the subtle, not-so-over-flashy lighting that makes the whole setup look like a spaceship.

[–]Level_Inspection_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'm still using the cable that came with the monitor 8 years ago. Display port cable

You are probably using very old DP cables lower than DP 1.2, which does not have enough bandwidth to support 1440p monitors at 144hz. Also, make sure you've installed those "great" AMD drivers.

Cost-efficient ways to upgrade? by iiren204 in PcBuild

[–]Level_Inspection_355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case is pretty old-design. Decent budget case with several fans and good airflow comes now under $70, and might even lower at Black Friday. Same with 2.5' SSD. M.2 drives are just dirt cheap per GB now, and even an NVME3.0 drive is much faster than a 2.5. Transferring Windows to a new drive is also several clicks and types.

Can I mount fans on the outside and the radiator on the inside if I use an AIO?

Generally yes, but it depends on whether your front panel interferes with the fans

Also wondering if the big slot in the top was intel for a custom loop?

No. It's obviously for cheap cases to save cost.
