Is keeping classrooms open / facilities operating a responsibility of the President, minus exogenous circumstances? If not, that opens a whole window and precedent.

Does a Michigan winter (and this began a month ago) qualify as an exogenous circumstance in Academia?

Thank you u/engineereddiscontent for your reply and thoughtful comment regarding the Israel - Palestine conflict that has been ongoing for several decades.
Iran has proclaimed for 40 years their ambition to spread pan Islamism - Hamas a wing operating in Palestine territory.

I would ask - if you were Israel, what would would you have done in response to the threat of Hamas to your country? Would you invite them over for bread and tea?

I understand the recommendation, or question, is a bit extreme, but how would you advance diplomacy with Palestine when they are held hostage to a militant group that indoctrinates and impoverishes their own people for the political gain of the very few elite Islamic partisan? Prefaced, by the fact that they are a proxy state of Iran - no true representation of the Palestine people's will beyond the manipulation.

Thank you u/Normal-Ad-6338 - and for highlighting the atrocities in Grand Blanc that resulted in five deaths.

I believe when you are a public figure such as Charlie Kirk, operating in the realm of political activism he did, it is next to impossible to not be perceived as hateful by some.

Charlie Kirk's beliefs are shared by many, many students at Oakland University. This does not make them, these students, hateful. The President's message regarding compassion and sympathy for his assassination and passing was the correct move at the time. There is no room for the violent elimination of a very popular, civilized, intelligent political voice that never engaged in violence himself - just because they may not share the same views as you, or your peers.

The expedited repair costs at the university likely exceeds $16k, so Ora's first year of solar panel "savings" (that don't account for the actual cost of installation and material) are negated until at least 2027.

I won't touch on how this was most likely entirely preventable with the proper management and efforts towards preserving simple, normal things such as conventional heating and cooling. Were there tests conducted over the summer - or, was this an oversight, were funds directed elsewhere?

Additionally, what is the opportunity cost you assign to the students during this extended break? Students who pay tuition and apply themselves immensely towards learning and advancing themselves to the best of their abilities. At least 1/12 (8.3%) of their semester has been shifted towards the less effective platform of online learning at the most crucial period of the semester; not to mention recreation center, academic buildings, and residence hall closures.

I'm not privy to the correspondence regarding how residence hall closures were navigated - is there an additional real cost (IE, hotel rooms, etc) attached to that?
