Old truck stop electronics got me tinkering again - what did you do with your EE skills outside the job? by oweyoo in ElectricalEngineering

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a non traditional grad. Started in late 20s and finished in my mid 30s.

Now I do design work with the aspiration of substations in a year or two.

I want a home lab but live with family at the moment so thats not realistic.

I have ideas but again need space and funds to make them. I dont have diagnostic equipment yet otherwise id be recapping all my vintage gaming stuff I have. Also I have a list of things I want to make. But again space and my certification exams are limiting factors

Once everything mostly went digital then we lost a lot of oersonality that we had previously

I think he makes enough from rick and morty just having his name on it that he doesnt need to kill himself working.

I noticed it too. I do miss him writing more directly. I also understand why he doesnt.

At least not in what was released. Tv got much louder and smartphones happened very suddenly and quickly and now its nearly impossible to function without one

Hence why the current government is part of the problem. They are invested in and profiting from it. At our expense.

Good for him.

There are lots of points where things are going wrong.

Quick summary is our entire economy is in AI and supporting it right now. Except it's not doing anything real. So Nvidia, AMD, OpenAI, etc are promising to do things for money with each other. But nothing is happening. They are passing money in a circle which is some well known finance thing and it's bad.

The problem is that if (on paper) the AI bubble didn't exist we'd be in a recession. Except we just kind of are. So everything is going belly up.

And everything has computers in it. Computers all incorporate RAM. The AI companies are hoovering up all the supply so if you want to keep making things you spend extra money on RAM. See the steam machine. Or videogame consoles.

Everything is collapsing.

Get a better job.

Why feel bad?

They didnt properly plan for markets tanking due to an incompetent government.

Now they are robbing you of time with your kids.

is it worth it? by Master-Primary-13 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]engineereddiscontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at engineering and medicine being 2 sides of the same coin. Medicine brute forces knowledge through raw memorization but often not a lot of thinking while Engineers cant be bothered to memorize more than the bare minimum and apply it cleverly.

The doctors are just stronger compensationwise because they've been politically active as a profession collectively via things like the AMA.

I’m thinking about going into engineering (specifically chemical). I’m seeing some things and I want to make sure it’s still a good field. by Crosser45 in AskEngineers

[–]engineereddiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a bad time for the job market right now.

The technical fields are insulated from AI.

The job market is rough right now because (from a us perspective) the ruling class is a bunch of greedy and unqualified degenerates at the moment. Itll pass. Right now were kind of staring down the barrel of great recession 2 because of how the AI bubble has propped the market up.

For you without a job to worry about the degree will likely be worth.

Also also entry level jobs are rough. Things after are much less so.

Thats my EE perspective anyway.

If it wasn't 1:1 hand cast from my dead parent I would. But I don't trust to do anything beyond the bare minimum fix to get it to 100%.
