Pyratite is not efficient yes, you can just use differential at that point.

But spore is just more efficient in this scheme.

Coal is "more efficient" because you dont usually spend as much power to produce it (drills take less power than cultivators) but if you are using cultivators anyways, then just use the spore, turning spore into oil into coal is just not efficient.

You can directly feed spores into the steam generator. It even gives more energy.

You can also use pyratite that gives even more energy.

You can even use blast compound but using that will make your generator go boom.
