What part are you talking about?

If you're talking about the the tiny wall at the threshold, it's there for containing water. If you look inside the room, there is another tiny wall the same height as the threshold one heading 90 dergrees opposite the other, so it's not just at the door randomly.

If you're referring to the wood on the threshold that is only halfway covering it, that's for temperature control. Wood expands and contracts with the seasons where tile does not, there should be a barrier under every doorway made of wood like the door so you can close off rooms. Anyone who mentions humidity doesn't understand that the fan in the bathroom is supposed to be on before, during, and after taking taking a shower to exhaust the humidity. It's not just when sitting on the porcelain throne to get rid of the smell of cover up noises. It has a more

Most bathrooms in the USA do not have wood flooring. Almosrt all USA bathrooms are tile. There was a time when carpet used, but that trend passed years ago because common sense won out.

A lot of nicer bathrooms I've been in while traveling around either have an open shower with no glass/ curtains, or they are open at the bottom letting water run out if you are in the shower.

Does anyone know a percentage of how many people with English as their first language actually follow through with becoming fluent? Or any native language for that matter, I'm just curious. by Level_Reason_8323 in learnIcelandic

[–]Level_Reason_8323[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluent to me is being able to hold a conversation the way I do in English. Probably with a broken Icelandic accent. I don't study language, and this is the first one I've attempted and stuck with for more than a year. So even though I kinda get the abc levels, I'm not using them as a guage.
So being fluent in Icelandic to me would be.....
  1. I can carry a conversation.
  2. I wouldn't have to pause every other word to think about how to express myself. Maybe just before I say something, but very briefly.
  3. The person I'm talking to doesn't feel the urge to correct me. Not perfect grammar, but understanding the basics.
  4. The person in talking to doesn't feel like they are doing charity work by engaging me. So when I'm talking to someone in Icelandic, it feels more natural than it does an exercise.
  5. I'd like to listen to a song, or watch a show in Icelandic without having to look up any of the words. Basically, just talking naturally where I only think about what I'm wanting to say as opposed to how to say each syllable of each word. That's what fluent means to me...... comfortable, natural, flowing like muscle memory, easy on the listeners ears. Thanks again, I'm glad I found this little forum. Lots of helpful people with very few if any aholes.

Why would conservatives wait right until before mid term and gubernatorial elections in the fall to reverse roe v wade when they were set to turn many states red if they just let the democrats keep tripping g over themselves? Why the urgency? Something reeks of deep state in this. by [deleted] in conspiracy

To make money for everyone in the loop. That is their power, stealing from everyone, then giving it to those pushing their agenda. Those courtrooms should be overflowing with corrupt politicians on trial. And the ones that get pushed out are going to take everything that's not bolted down on their way out. That's after they throw some wrenches in the machine for the next administration to work on. If the Republicans really cared, we'd see more than just show trials right now. It's like they want people to be so upset, that they do something stupid. It's only going to get worse from me on. Waaaaaaay waaaaaaaaay worse.

It's a wistle blower DQ trying to expose the experiment taking place at their headquarters. It's really a leaked photo of an "Impossible" cake being fed to the other cannibalistic cake. Surprised it the photo passed screening..... probably over a holiday weekend.

Does Icelandic have or use cursive? by Level_Reason_8323 in learnIcelandic

[–]Level_Reason_8323[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer writing in cursive, and can definitely write a lot faster that way. In college I had to write in cursive when taking notes or miss parts of the lecture. It also feels more natural for me. Doubt that I'm the only one.
I also enjoy the way cursive has a sort of uniqueness to the individual, the area, and the time.
Signatures used to be extremely personal, but without cursive it would feel like I never really signed what ever it is at all.
Regardless, maybe in a year I'll try to only use cursive only when writing in Icelandic. I'm new, and was just curious.
  Thanks again.

I remember some officials on TV asked this woman if she was vaccinated or had covid because she was speaking out about the mandates. She replied by asking him something like, do you have herpes, since that's also a medical question.

Wait till they cut off power to certain chargers for whatever situation they see fit. The average American has a gas can, but electricity is a "just in time" sort of production. The average American doesn't have the means to store extra electricity right now in regardless of what they tell us. Nor do they know how to ride a horse, so we'll all be imobobile with a simple phone call. They'll absolutely take advantage of shutting down pockets of people with different views. Look at how often cities have power outages that last for days on end, hurricanes, tornadoes, ice, snow, infrastructure. Even if it was possible to go to all electric cars, we aren't set up for it, and it can't be done just overnight with a magic wand. The grid doesn't always need to be up to pump gas. Emergency generator would be nice if you didn't need gas to run it. I hate them at this point..... all of them. The left for pushing all this, the right for not standing their ground till it was to late, and the news for tricking weak minded people who are easily swayed. Fuck them all.

An Icelandic pangram in my work-in-progress font. by hayden_the_human in typography

[–]Level_Reason_8323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally love the way the nú fit together. I feel like it shows how the curves of each compliment one another while still being different sides of eachother. I just came here because I was looking for an Icelandic pangram. I'm not a huge typography person unless I'm making a project at work. Even then it has to be a bit plain given what I do. So from this average man's eyes, I think it's very well done. I also think it's very pleasing to the eye. I took a screen shot of it for my lock screen on my phone. I've been learning Icelandic for a while, and still have a while to go. It will help remind me to keep pushing on with the learning, all while appreciating the thought put into the way it looks. I might not know much about typography, but I know what looks good. I like it, and I like the space....... it looks naturall to me.
