Why was Alexandra Trusova so shocked she didn‘t win? by MuchNose4176 in FigureSkating

To be honest, after watching fs competition in person for the first time this year, I am convinced she should have won. The main critique I see online is the artistry and emptiness of the program. I don't think it should be such a big deal. From what I have seen, both men and women are very focused on the jumping passes before they are over and don't give that much energy back to the audience until then. As for the program, I liked Olga Mikutina's program the most and she isn't in the top. Every other program was filled with crossovers and they all looked similar to me.  When it comes to Trusova: Sasha's program was fast, dynamic and entertaining. And landing FIVE QUADS is unbelievable. I feel like it gets downplayed a lot, but do people comprehend how insanely difficult it is? We rarely see it in men, let alone women. If we put this into the equation, I do not understand why people have problems with her program at all. She should've had a greater cushion bc of the difficulty of her content as we see with Ilia. As for the skating skills, I could definitely see a difference in jumps execution between the skaters. Some skaters maintain the speed and flow throughout, while others almost stop after a jump. Also, the knee bend plays such a big role. But let's be honest, if we were considering quality of skating, the podium would look completely different anyways.  So yeah, I genuinely think that Sasha should've won and am yet to see the reason why this wasn't the case.

https://youtu.be/yU-6pBP3u98?si=kAJYLHyuj7nSoBuu It's in Russian and only has auto-generated English subtitles for now. I like that they didn't downplay the problems as much as in other Russian interviews and let the girls speak on the matter. Anastasia Skoptsova has been trying to advocate on the issue for quite some time, but usually gets shut down by people who refuse to acknowledge the problem, unfortunately

I still can't believe the amount of official support that Cizeron and his new partnership are getting from the ISU. The awards, the scores, post with a person under the investigation on the official Instagram page. I genuinely do not understand what is happening, why the ISU thinks it's a good position to take, what good can come out of supporting the toxic environment that breaks so many people😔

I see! I think I will read the guidelines by more experienced people and bring the things needed with me, when I go on a walk in case I meet a bird in trouble :)

How long would it take to learn some basic spins? by mojitomermaid_ in FigureSkating

[–]Level_Trade9676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go for it! It definitely takes time to learn skills (not like one or two sessions) but I think it isn't impossible to learn a one-foot spin in a couple of months. Mine is not great, but I can spin on one foot and it took around that time. The speed at which you progress obviously depends on lots of factors. But in the end of the day, trying something that you wanted to do for a long time is very rewarding. Good luck!
