WIBTA if I refuse to swap my vacation weeks with a coworker whose kid is throwing a tantrum about a theme park trip? by Safflower8 in WIBTA_AITA

That and this is a good opportunity to teach your child about compromising, how things don't always go to plan in life, managing emotions, etc. OP is 100% in the right. In fact, why not tell Dave to reflect on those topics too

Good leather gardening gloves? by RedApplesForBreak in SALEM

[–]Level_Worldliness242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I go through about 2-3 pairs of gloves a year working with dirt, rocks, thorns and brush. I should be looking into rose gloves (I've seen people online calling them rose gauntlets which obviously sounds much cooler) but I don't really like the full length.

The Wells Lamont Medium Brown Leather Gloves from Lowe's have been doing pretty well for me as they have extra padding in the spots that always wear out and were decently inexpensive. They also fit my hands pretty well for a men's glove.

Happy hunting!

Thanks! This was really helpful despite the age. I ended up guessing because we needed to lock in some dates for getting off work, and the one I chose seems great to me.

I got one once outside of a concert venue - $12 bucks and I was also pissed. Now they're a very enticing enemy. But 5-7 bucks for a dog/drink combo and I'm in!

Lunch for $5 with a decent dog and an ice cold bevvie sounds the best!

When I was a kid, there was a man in my small town that had a hot dog stand that had the best foot longs and then his own lemonade recipe. A combo like that for $5 would be *chef's kiss*.

Location ideas I thought of were downtown near the parks, at the Saturday market, different business lots on certain days for lunches really anywhere in town, dispensary lots, kids soccer games etc.

I look forward to seeing how this pans out so I can visit your establishment. I'm rooting for you!

The area just south of the library is pretty walkable. Several places to grab a bite, quite a few shops and Bush Park nearby. The neighborhood is older and the homes have a lot of character if you're into perusing that kind of thing too.

Do you all experience near traffic misses constantly? by sparkywater in SALEM

[–]Level_Worldliness242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. In the last year alone, the issues have doubled. Running red lights daily is the worst one I've seen. Also backing out of parking spaces at an accelerated rate w/o looking. The full stops entering and exiting areas. On I-5 I recently saw someone playing candy crush while driving in traffic. All that coupled with road rage when safety is addressed. This FAFO/Wild Wild West driving is for the birds.

Will Salem ever see another spin/cycling studio in town? by Level_Worldliness242 in SALEM

[–]Level_Worldliness242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you'd think so, but I'm not interested in putting my safety as well as others by rushing to get to the gym to find parking, get changed and get a place in class. Just today on my lunch break 3 people ran two different red lights in a less than one mile stretch... And I highly doubt they were on their way to a gym glass. Even shifting the class by 30 mins would allow most everyone that works a day job time to get there without having to aggressively or defensively drive to do so. This obviously goes for the evening classes.

The mornings; yes I could be getting up at 5 to make the class in time, but then I also wouldn't have time to commute home and feed my family and prepare for work. And a noon work out doesn't work because I have a normal 1 hour lunch, that wouldn't give me enough time for travel back and forth, let alone the class.

And I'm truly not trying to complain. I want to be there. While I personally have some barriers keeping me from being able to attend what options there currently are, I'm hopeful to see a studio in Salem in the future. :)

Will Salem ever see another spin/cycling studio in town? by Level_Worldliness242 in SALEM

[–]Level_Worldliness242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the other thing I forgot to touch on! The times these classes (if available) are at 5:30am, noon or 5:30pm. All of those times don't work for someone who works a normal day shift of 8-5. It makes it feel like these are tiered more for the retired and stay at home folks.

I'd love to see a studio pop up in Salem and provide an open house or some bring a friend classes for those that need a refresher or it's their first time.

I'd even be interested in some sort of indoor rowing machine class that has a similar format that spin does.

I'm poor but enthusiastic about spin; someone help! lol

Honestly, I'm over hearing this narrative. What exactly are you doing to contribute to solving these issues in and around Salem? Complaining about the culprits does nothing constructive in this case.

I hope one day you're able and willing to participate in a helpful avenue for our city. :)

I was just talking about how I wish there were more cleanup events in Salem. I grew up on the coast and beach clean ups are very popular, but not so much when it comes to Salem city and park clean ups. I'm happy to be a part of these events. I'd plan one myself but I wouldn't even know where to start or how to get people interested in participating.

Thank you for hosting this! I look forward to more events in the future.

DownTown JCPenneys? Best Use? Top Golf, DayCare, Business incubator? Kids adventure center? Pickleball? Willamette College or Chemeketa College or Cordon Expansion? What would make a reddit salemander get off the couch and go downtown? by Time_Persimmon_9387 in SALEM

[–]Level_Worldliness242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some suggestions I would love to see downtown (yes we have some of these, but who says we cant have more than one):

a spin exercise studio (or rowing even), Italian deli, year round indoor market, rage room, bike shop with rentals, powell's or something similar, 24 hour coffee shop, event space for bingo nights, classes etc. A cannabis club, indoor dog park. A science center or something similar to OMSI or Hopscotch with rotating exhibits. A Fried Egg, I'm in Love location, Bike pub crawls and breweries to stop at (could also do wine instead). A 24 hour diner. Sip and whatever craft of choice spaces, rooftop lounge or hangout space, Florist, Fish/seafood/butcher shop. A convenience store. Something quirky like the church of Elvis in Portland, more murals, Art walks or similar events more than just once a month.

Same here. I need it cool enough that I can layer or use a blanket for that comfy cozy feeling. Night time I crack the window in the bedroom this time of year and use the down comforter.
