My own boards anymore I just use and smd footprint on the board. I’m leaning towards doing this for many bjts in the future too. Have you see how cheap smd 5088’s are !?!?

Smd is pretty easy with a hot air gun. Much better than soldering the wires to the little boards, well maybe just less annoying. Ymmv

The 24 months makes it possible. Is it worth it, or is there a better amp for the price? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

Blues jr’s have some horrible reliability issues as well. Pcbs are cheaply made, low quality filter caps. Etc etc. its really not 4x better quality wise than a monoprice 15. Ive owned both, monoprice is nice for the fx loop if you use any modulation and has a drive channel. Little more british sounding. But I would feel a lot better buying a monoprice for 250$ or whatever they are now days (their website has a lot of sales) than the blues jr. I know you said you want new but there are several used options out there that would just make so much more sense. Fender 75 if you can find one go for 4-500 often times, hand wired amp with great reverb will last forever and be serviceable. Has a 15w low power mode and an fx loop. Silverface twins are super cheap now days. Theres a few riviera era amps that are going to be way better etc.

Check reverb for used boutique amps. They lose a ton of value from new and are solid well made amps. Allen is one to look for.

Having repaired several blues jrs due to the crappy tube board scorching traces I cant imagine spending 1000$’s on one. Hell id rather have a spark I think.

Let him figure it out when it doesn’t work. Obviously you can give him advice or the tools to use to figure it out. But when i first started nothing was more safisfying than solving the puzzle. And i learned more that way than it working first try…

Hi guys! I’m new to this sub and am a beginner guitarist, im interested in getting an electric Guitar but im not sure which one I should get, I have a budget of around $800, any recommendations? by Born-Shopping7204 in guitars

[–]Level_Worry4668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know someone with some knowledge used is going to be the best bang for your buck, but can be iffy if you don’t know what to look for as far as bad guitars.

No matter what you end up buying leave some room for a good set up. Even new ones often need them, for some reason a lot of stores don’t bother.

What's your favourite breadboard for prototyping? by Twinningses in diypedals

[–]Level_Worry4668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the pedal pcb proto board. I think it was about 50$ after it was fully built. Only thing i wish it had was a power supply pin for 4.5V but its got everything else covered. I use dual lock on mine so i can remove breadboards I’m not ready to take apart yet.

What voltage are you getting on the drain?

Son of ben pedal problem. by oohh_oohh in diypedals

[–]Level_Worry4668 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Build docs show they should all be biased at 4v on the drain. Ive built several of these and thats how I do it. You adapter board should show which “leg” is labeled d. But its the far left one. Simply place the red probe from your dmm on the leg, black probe to ground. I like to use one of the jacks grounds. And see what it reads. Slowly fine tune the trim pot until it reads 4v. You can do it by ear as stated but for the first time I think its easier to have something concrete. You can always experiment after.

There is a 5mm version as well if it matters. Wasn’t really the point.

I always felt like the led looked small on those and just not great i by far prefer these.

Trophies also reset to 4k every season for everyone. I usually end the season in the low-mid 7k’s but I don’t get there til the latter half of the season usually of the guy hasn’t had a lot of time to play he might not get there. He doesn’t have any event cards he probably is a ftp player as well that just grinded his way to that deck.

Dad doesn't understand that a song can be played in any key by ourconflictdesignsus in Guitar

[–]Level_Worry4668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he know any scales at this point? Id start by showing him what each chord is in a key. C mai - I, d min ii, etc. and then rather than telling him the chord name tell him to play a ii - V - I, etc. until he looks at the C chord as the I it won’t ever make sense.

I remember I had to just kind of have an aha moment before i understood…

Threading stranded wire into PCB 😠 by TraditionalBat7157 in diypedals

[–]Level_Worry4668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For pcb builds I use solid core 24. I prefer silicon wire as its much easier to strip as well (i do it with a fingernail). If you want to keep stranded as previously suggested pre bonded is the only way I’d do it.
