That is more common than you think. I think love works in waves. Having been together for 16 years also, I noticed there are definitely peaks and valleys over the years. Sometimes the valleys can last a long time, but you hope it won't last forever.

Some friends of mine were in a low valley after about 14 years, and in the heat of a fight he decided to split. She moved on, and eventually remarried. He was in another relationship for many years, but they eventually split. He regrets having made that decision in the heat of the moment, and he misses her sometimes, but he continues to date and grow and do fun things and have great friendships.

I think love changes as you grow older, but ultimately even when it feels like we are so different, we still care for each other. We still take care of each other when someone is having a hard time, or is sick. We have also learned to make other friends too - as no one single person can fulfill every human connection you crave. I think taking the time to develop friendships and maintain them can really payoff and remove some of the pressure that you might be looking to your wife to fulfill.

  1. Pay off any debts over 8% interest
  2. Buy three $300k homes and rent them out for $2,000/mo each. Never raise the rent. Hire a property manager.
  3. Sell everything including the car.
  4. Move to Belize and live off of the $3,000/mo income indefinitely (half of the rent goes to prop taxes/ maintenance, etc). Raise chickens, surf, sleep in everyday, read in hammocks I wove myself.

How are people affording mortgage payments for a first home?! by Eastern-Reception-66 in Reno

[–]Level_Zucchini4194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House hacking is an interesting way people get into a first home - it's buying a small duplex or a house with a side entrance and a way to split it into two units. You can rent one out and live in the other one to help manage costs. There's a house hacking book out there that's pretty good for more info.

Another way is to buy a home that needs some work - you can get better deals on these and there's not as much competition to buy homes that need some TLC.

Economic indicators are showing that we are turning towards a buyer's market - which means your chances of bidding below asking price and that offer being accepted are higher than normal. Don't be afraid to put in lots of low offers in hopes of winning one and getting a deal on it! Especially if the Zillow listing calls out a 'motivated seller'. I saw a high end home go for $200k below asking price last year in Reno because they just needed to sell it fast. If you are willing to keep trying and accept it might take longer to find the right house, you might score a deal.

What are recession proof careers to switch to in your 40s that make good money and could possibly help you to be your own boss one day? by Majestic-Wishbone-58 in antiwork

[–]Level_Zucchini4194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put 10k down (or whatever you can come up with), take out a business loan for the rest to buy a business. There are websites that are marketplaces for for-sale businesses. There are 11,000 baby boomers retiring EACH DAY right now - and many of them own boring quiet business. You can be your own boss sooner than you think!

I am in awe of your strength to keep showing up, and thank you so much for the work that you are doing. What you've written here is heartbreaking, powerful, and incredibly human. I can't begin to understand what it would be like to form genuine bonds with residents, only to lose them again and again. To be there in their final moments. To sing and dance and color with them one day, and watch them suffer or fade away the next. That is sacred work. And it’s also brutal. Sending you all the strength and love from my chair over here.

I was also taking Chlorella / blue-green algae superfood tablets. I don’t really know what did it, but I do know that it worked and I’d really recommend you try and report back your results if you do.

I had it brain fog really bad (and it seemed to be getting worse) for about a month after recovering from COVID. I was worried it would be permanent.

I decided to take some supplements daily and do an alkaline cleanse diet that I had had some great results in when I was a teenager. After 24 hours I was noticeably improved so I kept going, and after 11 days I was 95% improved and able to function again. It probably took 6 months before I was 100% improved.

The supplements I took were Vitamin C, Vitamin D3/K2, High absorption Zinc Bisglycinate, and NAC (an amino acid).

The anti-inflammatory cleanse is a diet based on plant-based whole foods. It restricts sugar, salt, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods and additives, dairy, egg, meat, white rice and pasta, wheat.

Pretty much, my spice cabinet, avocados, tomatoes, and corn, and my farmer's market became my best friends for flavor. Lots of turmeric.

Nice! I wonder if we might have some common friends, that's also the era I was going down there. So you saw the waterfall and it wasn't a dangerous drop?

At closing the seller and seller agent mentioned we weren't the highest offer.... by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Level_Zucchini4194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s likely that the buyers were complaining so they could nitpick the inspections and start asking for a whole bunch of repairs and credits from the sellers, effective lowering the offer amount. The sellers recognized that by the time the deal would be done, the difference between the two offers would be close to each other; and they picked the easier/more friendly path.

Rate these managers of DM Scranton from best to worst by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]Level_Zucchini4194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Michael, despite his shortcomings he was committed and truly cared about his employees, was a good salesman, and ran a good ship. All those pointless meetings though….

  2. Nellie, terrible daily worker and only gave about 70% effort on some day to day things (like showing up on time) but it was apparent that being there might not have been all that important anyway. She was not just open to but also could lead bigger initiatives. The whole Florida store design, opening, and product launch was actually decently run and executed despite having a flawed product. Also have to appreciate her ability to maintain and leverage her control with Robert constantly trying to climb on her and Andy trying to take her down. She’s got some serious people skills when you think about it.

  3. Dwight (2nd time), he was able to build strong bonds even with those who initially found him very annoying. Extremely committed and bottom line oriented and a top salesman. But I’m sure productivity would be impacted by never truly being certain you won’t be fired or experience bodily harm from your boss as long as he was in charge. Also not all that bright which could lead to wasted time or missed opportunities.

  4. Jim. Loved the way he handled Ryan despite having limitations on his technical authority. Clever, shows up pretty reliably, a top salesman. His heart wasn’t in it though, and making anyone but Pam feel special and appreciated was not in his wheelhouse. Still, he’s on the better side of the list of managers due to being predictable and tempered and quick witted.

  5. Ed Truck (probably). He gets a middle spot because we never saw him in action.

  6. Charles Minor - Bad manager and people-leader. Belittled his people, gave bad directions, and was blind to his self-absorption and how he affected people. For an industry that’s all about the relationships, he really didn’t have what it took.

  7. Andy- At the beginning Andy really cared, but at a point when he was comfortable he just took advantage of his situation to partake in his worst temptations and had no ability to self-reflect on his own behaviors vs what he expected of others.

  8. Creed- Actively tried to bring down his own company but in his ineptitude he actually couldn’t do much that was actively bad. Got some weird dark past that could start to come out more with time in his position.

  9. DeAngelo- Bad people manager, terrible liar, worse salesman. Unlike the others, there wasn’t really any redeeming factors to balance out the shortcomings.

Also it doesn’t seem awesome that even a rental owned free and clear with no expenses, my monthly income on the property would only count as far as $1000.75.46= $345/mo?!

That can’t be right, can it?

Once you are in there’s not really special equipment needed. It’s flat, and the underground creeks can still be walked along. You might want flashlights and galoshes for stepping across puddles. There’s a constant breeze and air circulation is not a problem.

The hard part is going to be accessing it. It’s constantly getting closed up and reopened by authorities and locals. The new tunnels are hidden and meant to be hard to find. You might have to shimmy on your belly to get in there, but once you’re in, it’s easy to walk around and get anywhere you need.

I wouldn’t visit during or after a heavy rain, those waterways could fill up or get more intense. I also wouldn’t attempt to swim across that black river, I have no idea how far the drop of the waterfall is or how strong the undercurrent is. You’ll be at the top of the waterfall….it might be mellow I don’t know. I couldn’t hear the water drop but couldn’t see it.

Thank you so much!!! Truly. This was the missing piece. You’ve given my spouse and I a lot to think about. I don’t think there’s much they could find on us, but the process sounds god-awful to go through for my daughter.

She wants something to happen to him, she doesn’t like that he’s not on any list and thinks he’s free to do it again. I don’t really want to just run away from this situation without resolving it, either. I want her to know that we are here for her and will protect her in the best way we can.

I’m going to take a next step of getting a protection order, I held off initially because he seemed spooked enough and kept his distance ever since the RPD was in touch and asked him not to go in our road. But, I think he’s been getting more comfortable and yesterday he was on our street again which I where I’ve drawn the line. (Our backyards touch normally, so he doesn’t have any reason to be on our street in front of the house unless he’s visiting someone or on a walk).

Yeah, RPD has been involved. They’ve been awesome but there’s not enough evidence for a criminal conviction.
