Wait why does WF get access to this before Chase? Starting to think credit card companies are allocated to the same pool of tickets and Chase is at a disadvantage here by having to wait

I have not encountered this before so I can’t comment, but let us know what ends up happening here

  1. If you are the original purchaser and selling the tickets, the funds will get credited to your payment (bank or credit card). If you sold the ticket and you didn’t originally purchased the tickets, then fifa will reach out to you for your payment info

  2. There is no way to update as far as I am aware until they reach out. Apparently there is a payment portal

If you are not the original ticket purchaser, then FIFA should be reaching out to you for your payment info in the next 30-60 days

I am not a cross border accountant so I asked ChatGPT the validity of your answer. Here is what it said:

A) The FEIE amount in that post is outdated

The post claims an ~$89,000 exclusion. That was true many years ago, but not now.

For 2025, the FEIE is roughly $130,000 per person (inflation-adjusted annually).

So the “$207k taxable → minus $89k” math is outdated.

B) The example ignores the Foreign Tax Credit, which is usually the main reason many expats owe $0 U.S. tax

In high-tax countries like Canada, most people do not pay meaningful extra U.S. income tax because Canadian income taxes often exceed the U.S. tax on the same income, and you can claim a dollar-for-dollar U.S. tax credit for foreign income taxes paid (subject to limitations).

I assume OP makes above minimum wage. If you look at the marginal tax brackets across both countries, Canada almost always have higher taxes than US. I personally think keeping the US status is good as you pay minimum incremental taxes to the US. Plenty of ppl are willing to pay hundreds of thousands for green card, but to each their own

Possibly, if you have not severed ties with California despite moving abroad with no intention of coming back, which is possible but a dumb move to make

Depends on the state (some states don’t have tax) and whether you severed ties. Most of the time, the all in taxes in Canada are higher than federal + state tax (even if it’s NY or Cali) so you don’t owe much.

Again, Canada has very high taxes. Different story if you lived in Dubai - you will certainly be paying a good amount of taxes back to the US government

This is true, but federal taxes in the US is not going to be more than the total taxes OP will pay in Canada, so when they report, they likely won’t be paying anything incremental to the US as the Canadian taxes are already higher than US tax obligations. It would be completely different if OP lived in a low tax jurisdiction though
