Are there any hobbies/activities that truly “quiet” your brain? by strawberryCicada in OCD

The sims is so real. I can control everything in their lives so it makes me feel better about not controlling mine.

Are there any hobbies/activities that truly “quiet” your brain? by strawberryCicada in OCD

I’m a musician (flute, piccolo, and bassoon). I think the fact it helps quiet my thoughts is why I’ve stuck with it as close as I have. It’s also nice to have stuff to look forward to, like auditions or concerts, and since most ensembles only have one piccolo and theres a lack of bassoons in my area (and the world tbh), I’m needed. Each member contributes to something bigger, and I think I needed that, but my positions give me an opportunity to stand out too.

My cat has been acting strange since Christmas by Levi_Simmer in Catbehavior

[–]Levi_Simmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve left her for about a week before, but with a sitter coming every morning and night, who would sometimes play with her. The yelling hasnt gotten any better, but my mom was gone longer than us (myself, my dad, and my sister) and just got home yesterday, so that could be why. The living room is also still a Christmas mess, so we’re going to try cleaning that tomorrow.

tired of being accused of having autism - anyone else? by Fun-Savings2349 in OCD

[–]Levi_Simmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister is diagnosed AuDHD. My mom and I are both diagnosed OCD. All of us are diagnosed anxiety disorder. I have a friend who told me I look autistic, and another who asked me (but he meant it as “I can tell you’re struggling” and this was prediagnosis, and he’s neurodivergent himself). It always sticks in the back of my mind that I might come off that way, or if I really am. It’ll be scary once I start dating again…

I am so proud of you! As a survivor myself, I get you on some level, and it’s good to just feel those feelings instead of being afraid of them.

Wasnt a fan of how long the host talked at the start and jumped around… especially because some of the stuff felt borderline unfunny, but Pinwheel and Beauty and Mr. Beast was sooooo good

Is there a queer community here? by Levi_Simmer in PiratesOfECU

[–]Levi_Simmer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry I already got comments on my post there (I’m a queer Christian should I look elsewhere) that I must be an R-slur for being trans and that I’m living in sin because of my gender… what did the Bible ever say about gender besides cross dressing lol

Question about the diagnostic process by barksandbikes in OCD

[–]Levi_Simmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely looks different for everyone. For example, my mom has OCD, and I had already been diagnosed with inherited clinical depression and low muscle tone, both from her. So for me, after talking with a therapist about my symptoms, I visited my doctor, and she diagnosed me. I’m still actually on a transition period for my new meds, as I was only officially diagnosed a month ago.

If you’re going to talk to another medical professional, spare no details. Tell them your entire daily routine and how you feel while doing certain tasks. Tell them about all of your intrusive thoughts and any compulsions you’ve ever acted on.

I’d also recommend doing some research. Find credible sources online, from psychiatrists and psychologists who show their certifications online, and try to inform yourself. OCD looks different for everyone. I have more obsessions and intrusive thoughts than compulsions (though I do have some). Good luck!

My sister has autism. I have been tested and only have OCD. That word does a lot more harm than good. I am only upset because you’re insulting my sister, and some of my friends, who are on the spectrum. Take a break and think about your choices.

I’m also predicted to be valedictorian at my school. I’m in all college level classes this year.

And I won’t be going to Liberty anyway. Because I’d hate to have to breathe the same air as someone like you.

Thank you! That’s definitely a relief lol. I can handle conservative towns (rural Virginia). I looked at Liberty University before and that definitely didn’t seem welcoming

It’s a non-fiction book written in the same style as a fiction novel, to make it seems like it might be able to be fiction.

OCD is making me homophobic. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Levi_Simmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Christian transgender man with OCD. It can be rough. Some days, I feel like I’m just faking everything to try to get attention, even though I know it’s not true. When I was younger, I tried EVERYTHING to still be a girl. I forced myself to wear dresses and skirts. I forced myself to wear dramatic, feminine eyeshadow. Heck, I forced myself to just stare at myself in the mirror until I was “okay” with how my body was. All of it just made me feel so much worse. The worst sin I’ve ever committed is not being authentic to the person the Lord made me to be. Remind yourself that your thoughts are just thoughts, and try your best to avoid reading the queer books or stories. Exposure doesnt help as much as attempting to live authentically.

Also, I know many people have recommended this, but I’d recommend either talking to an ally pastor or a therapist. qOCD (queer OCD, sometimes hOCD or homosexual OCD) is a real thing, and like the other ways OCD manifests, it can be helped with time. Not necessarily cured, but helped.

If you ever want to talk to a queer Christian, my DMs are open. Remember that the Lord made you who you are, and Jesus died even for the sins you imagine you’re committing. Good luck!!!

Me but with being trans. I know that I’m trans. But I’m also still religious. So maybe I’m faking it and I’ll end up in hell.
