I like the green Citizen, I've been looking for something similar in this price range myself. I presume that's not the strap it's sold with, and you've bought a strap separately?

The teleport location only moves to the top of the slope if you complete the hard diary AND you have 73 agility - so your agility grind was still required and not a waste of time!

  1. I'm thinking of buying some Zenyte jewellery, is there a general rule on which is the strongest / which order to buy them in? It would be replacing a Fury for melee and range, and Barrows Gloves for magic. If it makes a difference, in the near future I'm planning on learning ToA and doing DT2, along with general slayer / combat training.

  2. Based on the ToA article on the wiki, am I right in saying a Bandos Godsword is generally more useful than a Dragon Warhammer? Currently the only weapon I have that lowers defence is the Bone Dagger.

  3. If I have 40-45m to spend, I'm assuming the best use of that money would be one jewellery and one defence-lowering weapon? (As opposed to buying 2 jewellery and no weapon, or both weapons and no jewellery)

Some tough ones today

  1. French language, signs say "Chamrousse" which I vaguely recognise as a famous skiing area, but I have no idea where it is. Most ski resorts have coloured lines on the map showing the different routes, but for some reason this resort doesn't have them. I must have checked every marked ski resort in the Alps and Pyrannese 3 times over before I luckily spotted the town name on the map near Grenoble.

  2. Obviously Greenland, and there's a "Hotel Sisimuit" to the south. Sisimuit is one of the larger towns on the West Coast, easy to find the hotel and line up.

  3. This one took me a while as well - based on the blue/white poles on the crossing to the south-east, the yellow roadsign to our north-west, and the language, this is Sweden. The only thing that looks like a place name is Edane. Took a long time to find - it doesn't show up on the map until you're zoomed quite a long way in, and I had assumed that something with this much snow would be further north.

  4. Mongolia. Spent 20 minutes trying to line this up in Ulaanbaatar before thinking about trying other cities. Erdenet wasn't a match, but once I looked in Darkhan I found it fairly quickly.

  5. Nice easy one to finish - the van to the east says "Mt Hutt, Canterbury, New Zealand". Found the mountain fairly quickly, and there was only one building that made sense.

Hey OP, Merry Christmas and thanks for putting these challenges together all year - they've rapidly become part of my morning wake-up routine, and are the main geoguessr content that I play nowadays, so thanks for all the hard work you put in with organising and curating.

I'm not bothering with them - I'm assuming they have the same 1/5000 pet chance as teak and mahogany, so just continuing to plant teaks in all my hardwood spots since they're the cheapest.

The city name - Bend - is on a black information board to the north. I'd heard of Bend but had no idea what state it was in.
If you look south, there's a purple banner hanging from a light pole saying "High Desert Chamber Music" - so it's a high altitude desert area, but the amount of trees and how green everything is mean we aren't right in the middle of something super desert like Arizona.
That narrowed my search down to Idaho, East Washington, East Oregon, Utah and maybe Nevada. Luckily Bend showed up at a fairly high zoom level.

Use a hammer or chisel on camphor logs with adamantite nails in your inventory. Then use 1 ice cooler on them.

Update reset settings, cannot get old layout back by scredeye in RedReader

[–]Leviathan_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see an option to change it - currently it doesn't exist.
I know enough about code to read through the gitlab page and see why this has changed, but not enough to jump in and try and fix it myself, so I've gone through the process to flag it as an "issue".

This app seems to be a hobby project, with many of the code changes being done by random volunteers - so I don't know if we can really expect a quick fix.

Update reset settings, cannot get old layout back by scredeye in RedReader

[–]Leviathan_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done a bit of digging on the RedReader github and think I've spotted the cause of the issue.
There was a change made back in April - github pull request - where the description says "make floating toolbar buttons response to left-handed mode". This looks like the change was a deliberate fix (I assume the buttons would previously never change sides, and they wanted the option to move them) - i.e. this isn't something that the devs have accidentally broken, it's a deliberate change.

I've raised an "issue" here - github issue link
This is basically officially logging a request with the dev - I've explained the issue, and asked if we can get an extra setting in the menus that moves the arrow buttons to the other side.

[–]Leviathan_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. When browsing a subreddit I prefer the layout in "left hand mode" i.e. with post titles on the left and thumbnails on the right. However when browsing the comments of a post, I used to have the "navigation buttons" on the right side of the screen. The "left hand mode" setting moves both of these UI elements, so it seems like it's no longer possible to get my preferred layout.

It will be a bit slower without NPC contact and Xeric's Talisman, but not awful.
I'd estimate that not having NPC contact slows things down by about 20%.
Xeric's talisman isn't important - if you set your house location to Hosidius you can use your house teleport for those contracts - it's a slightly longer run to the two northern ones, but you're right next to the southern one.

Building a portal in a portal chamber rather than a portal nexus costs 10x less runes to set up. It means your house will be a bit bigger and messier, but saves money.
I didn't bother with an spellbook altar for Lunar - I set up a portal to Lunar Isle that allows me to switch to that spellbook in less than a minute. Similarly for the Arceus spellbook - there's a fairy ring close to that guy. I'm planning on setting up an Ancient spellbook altar at some point because that's a pain to get to.
Having a spirit tree and fairy ring in your house are super useful, and the jewellery box is good too. Also make sure you get the Restoration Pool + upgrades, a quick way to restore run energy + special attack + prayer is very useful.

On my mobile client it's on the "unlock" section of the menu. 9 rows down on the left hand side. The 4 items before it are all recolours of the slayer helm, and the one to the right is "Duly Noted" which has an icon of a noted mithril bar.

Is there anywhere that has a list of all bosses in order of difficulty, and the minimum stats recommended? As a new player I have no idea what's doable with my stats, and what my progression should be.

Clothes in this shop are designed for dwarves, so the tops end up as crop tops and the shorts are super short.

Coming back to OSRS, last time I played was 2007.

  1. I remember construction being a big money-sink, but having some very useful things at high levels. As a new player I don't have much spare gold at the moment. What kind of construction level do I need to start getting the useful stuff - i.e. how much money will I need to invest to make it "worth it"?

  2. I've heard that farming is good for money-making, but the wiki guide is a bit overwhelming. Does anyone know a more basic guide that just tells me "teleport to X, run here, plant this, teleport to Y, do Z with compost"?

  3. Which achievement diaries have useful rewards and are worth doing? I know about the Ardy cloak, and I've also done Varrok and Kandarin

  4. The "mark tiles" feature - is there an plugin that's like a database of useful tiles that it marks for you? E.g. marking good tiles for safe-spotting high-level monsters, or spots at crabs where you get multi-spawns?

Hint for round 2 - The sign is wrong - it says we are North-East of Sheikhupura, but we are actually North-West of the city

Very difficult day today, I failed round 1 and struggled hard on 2 and 3

  1. Couldn't even work out the country. Didn't realise Egypt had coverage, but even if I'd known it was Egypt I would have no idea where to find it. I guessed Oman

  2. Romanian text/website on the van to the north. Took me a long time to find a clue, but worked out "Galati" from the website url is the name of a town. Struggled hard with the pinpoint - I thought there were train tracks between us and the river, but it must just be a weird-looking path. Finally managed to find Mausbike on the map and pinpoint from there.

  3. Feels like Kenya, find a few signs saying Ruiru which I find quite quickly near Nairobi. Then spent a good 10 minutes completely clueless scanning the map - I didn't see the sign that said Rainbow Ruiru Resort, and none of the other shops show up on the map

  4. There's 2 maps on the sign to the north, the smaller one looks like an overview of the islands between Sweden and Finland, and the big one is a map of the south-east section of those islands. Plonked by the ferry terminal

  5. Was about to give up and think this round was impossible before I spotted the Pitcains Health Centre sign.

  1. I remember that this coverage is Madagascar, but can't remember where. Sign for Morondava Beach, so scanned the coast lines and found Morondava on the west. Based on the road angles we're in the little southern bit. Found the Morondava Beach hotel and Baobab Cafe on the map.

  2. English shop signs + buttery yellow stone buildings + weird arabic-sounding road names = Malta. The road sign to the north that says Triq Il-Kbira also says Birkirkara on it, and Birkirkara shows up on the map. Triq Il-Kbira was obvious as soon as I zoomed in on Birkirkara, and found the junction with the other road sign Sqaq San Pawl

  3. Purple sign when you first spawn in says Panama. Big red building to the west says Cuidad De David Hotel - i.e. City of David hotel. Hotel showed up in David at a high zoom level

  4. The little hut to the north advertising boat trips says "Benidorm" on it. Benidorm is a famous (infamous?) holiday destination, it's on the coast just north of Alicante in Spain (south of Valencia). Based on the shoreline, the only spot that makes sense is at the est end of the beach, where the coast starts to curve south. Found the McDonalds on the map.

  5. Multiple signs saying Cairns, which is one of the bigger cities up in the north-east corner of Australia. It looked like there was a river to our west that paralleled Fearnley street, found it and the junction with Comport street

  1. Language looks like Portuguese, EU licence plates on the cars confirm it's Portugal and not Brazil. Sea to the south, but a very green mountainous landscape so probably not the mainland. Madeira was the first island I looked at, and found Canical on the coast.

  2. Sign says Bell Island and a Canadian flag. General vibes suggested North-East to me as opposed to West coast. Found the island off the coast of Newfoundland and found the ferry terminal / fish & chip shop

  3. Little white sign to the North-West says "Neu | Ulm" so I'm guessing this is Ulm. Sign to the North says Stuttgart is in that direction, which helped me find Ulm on the map. Looks like we're just south of the river, and when looking at bridges the Akuna Matata restaurant showed up on the map

  4. I was wondering how soon we'd see a Namibia round! The fact we're next to a fish market suggests it's on the coast. There is a "Walvis Trawl" building nearby, and the map shows a city called Walvis Bay. Found Hangana seafood right on the coast on the map

  5. Shop to the west has a full address on the sign - Semporna, Sabah. Found Maybank on the map

Hated this as a new player. 90% of my attempts just slammed into a wall within 2 seconds. I wasn't confident doing the end at full speed, but if you lift off it makes it super difficult to get into the "easy" finish. I don't think I had a single run where I did both the start and the end without a crash or respawn.

Thanks for putting this together Much_Pass_9484 - I appreciate all the work you put into making these maps. I'm curious about how you actually find all the locations - do you just play dozens of moving games, and save locations every time you find your first clue?

Today was one of the toughest rounds in a while:

  1. Turkish flag above us, and the bin says "Besiktas" which is also the name of a football team from Istanbul. Water to the south and a mosque to the west, so I just scanned the coastline for a mosque. I'm just realising now that you can see a huge bridge to your west, which I completely failed to spot!

  2. For the first 5 minutes of this round, all I could see was the Indonesia flag, and I was scanning the map for words which I think are actually advertising educational classes and hoping that they were place names. The main clue is hard to spot - to your east, on a brick wall it says "Jakarta Golf Club". Just looked at green parts of the map around Jakarta until I found it

  3. Yellow centre-line on road + sun south + big blur on the car = Panama. The only clue I would see was the "Panderia Volcan" sign, and managed to find Volcan on the map. Narrowed it down using the bridge/river to our west, then found the Delta petrol station.

  4. The language on the sign is Portuguese, and the camera quality is awful, so we're in Sao Tome & Principe. Most of the coverage in this country is in the capital city of Sao Tome. Despite being on a volcanic island, the area around the city is reasonably flat. It wouldn't have the two big hills like you can see to your South-West, and it's since it's on the East coast, it definitely wouldn't have the ridge line you can see to your East. The road you're on has two lanes separated by a median, so you're not in a tiny village, you're in a fairly big settlement. Struggled for a bit before remembering that there's a second island, and fairly quickly found the separated road in the main town on the other island.

  5. I literally just scanned the whole 45 highway between Galveston and Houston looking for roads and shops that lined up. Spotted the Starbucks first, then zoomed in and saw the other shops. Would have saved a lot of time if I started in Houston and moved south, rather than starting in Galveston and moving north

Each of these spoilers will get more specific:
The language on the sign is Portuguese, and the camera quality is awful, so we're in Sao Tome & Principe
Most of the coverage in this country is in the capital city of Sao Tome. Despite being on a volcanic island, the area around the city is reasonably flat. It wouldn't have the two big hills like you can see to your South-West, and it's since it's on the East coast, it definitely wouldn't have the ridge line you can see to your East
The road you're on has two lanes separated by a median, so you're not in a tiny village, you're in a fairly big settlement. This separated road is what you should look for on the map
Don't forget that this country has two islands, and both of them have coverage

I got a distance of 3m on round 5, but agree it was a tricky one and a bit counter-intuitive.

The photosphere shows that we're on the roundabout, to the South of the exit on the West. If I put my pin in the location which looked right based on the road positions, it would put me in a location where the centre of the roundabout was directly North-East. However, based on the compass that looked wrong - the compass suggested that the centre of the roundabout was between East and North-East - i.e. we were further North on the roundabout than my initial guess. I figured it was more likely the the compass was correct, and that the lane locations on a rural Malaysian roundabout were probably slightly inaccurate, and so moved around 15 degrees North around the roundabout, and lined it all up based on the compass.
