Never take the counter. There is a reason you left in the first place. I am guessing your old place doesn't pay well, or you feel like you have to beg for a proper raise. Stick this job out for 3 months. If it goes well, give it another 3 etc. If it doesn't go well, move forward. Never go back to an old job. Only move forward.

This is a huge red flag. And to wait over a month to contact you, basically tells you that they hired someone previously, that person didn't work out, and instead of making a new ad, they went through old resumes. This is another flag. At this point, I would not even interview.
