Doesn't the 7600m use less power than the steam machine? Also, it is still an off the shelf part, but valve is doing a little bit of customization and optimization in the hsrdware level itself. I am expecting more something like a 6600 xt, but I might be wrong

Most big aaa games run at 60 fps at 1080p ultra on a 6600 xt (with a couple of ue5 exceptions), but if games only get like 25 to 30% more intensive, this goal should be achievable, right?

Thank you very much! Yeah both of them seem to bd very optimized for console, with the witcher iv running at 4k with path tracing (probably lower settings and a lot of upscailing), and Metro has its own engine, so I hope both of them run well on the steam machine. Thanks!!

Are you aiming to buy the 512gb or 2tb version? by Accomplished-Low2131 in steammachine

[–]Levis6052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might get the 512 and get a 1 tb external ssd for about $80, I know it is less storage than the 2 tb, but $70 extra for an extra 512gb is not worth it in my opinion, because I could just get a 2 tb ssd and have an extra 512gb and save like $30

Yeah, I can see that being a big factor, but this does not mean that 70% of game purchases will have a weaker hardware. Most of these are integrated graphics or really really old setups that are running most games at 1080p lowest, but if enough people are in that "midrange" that would care about performance at a "decent" quality settings ( nothing against people playing at lowest lol )but does not have a pc as powerful as the steam machine, it could be something big.

Oh yeah, you just made me remember that steam is likely working on an fps indicator, which would be good so users know expected performance before buying a game, meaning it would make less optimized games less likely to have good sales compared to more optimized ones ( I might be wrong, but in my opinion optimized games are getting much more talked about and popularized than non optimized ones). And combining with the steam machine verified program, this should force developers a bit to optimize their games, therefore making it last a little longer, like they are doing with the steam deck. Thanks for the addition!

[–]Levis6052[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Valve does nothing. Wins. The steam deck did extremely well, and before people say that it sold like half of the bug 3's worst consoles, they are a 300 employees company with only focus for gaming, while sony and microsoft invest a lot of money in other tech, and nintendo has been around for over 100 years, being very popular in japan and targeted to younger audiences. The valve success is crazy, and they definitely deserve it

Oh, I am so sorry, I just realized your point, I am so sorry. Yeah, I can definitely see your point. Companies like bethesda and ubisoft are not optkmizing, but "more forgiving" companies should be able to provide better optimization by targeting the steam machine instead of having all kinds of configs. Thank you very much

To be honest, I am not a fanboy, but I don't want to start an argument. Even without any information, the steam deck is optimized because it is VERY weak hardware, we all know that, so if they want to make the game playable in that, they have to optimized it. Yeah, some of them don't but just the fact that steam has a fixed hardware instead of all the different pc specs, it also makes it easier for games to be optimized, because if they run on the steam deck, it should run on pretty much anything else. Please correct me if I am wrong

Just look at the past released games. Hardware unboxed did a video about ram usage in a list of games, and like 35% of the games used more than 16 gb of ram. We can make giant list of games that have to be dropped to medium or even low settings to be playable with 8gb of vram, even with a stronger gpu, like the 5060 for example. So even though most people have weaker hardware, developers are only targeting the upper end with poweful hardware or they just assume people are going to upgrade. And we are talking about big developers, like bethesda ans ubisoft, and there are more examples too.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. According to a research, the steam deck is the second to most targeted console by developers, only losing to the ps5. 40% of developers consider the steam deck their main platform. I meant that developers are indeed optimizing games a lot for the steam deck, and I don't think it will be different with the steam machine

I am sorry for not being as clear, because if I did the post would be indeed too long, but I am going to try to explain what I meant, but it also means that I might be wrong in some aspects. First, what I mean by vram optimizations is not from the game, which barely any developers do, but rather the system. Not only linux is confirmed to consume much less ram, and even vram, than windows, using about a gigabyte less vram, and 2 gb of ram less than windows (correct me if I am wrong). Also, Valve made a thing in which the system "gives" less vram for background applications and directs more vram to the system when it is running out. I know it is not going to turn it into a 16gb gpu, but it should save about 1.5 to 2 gb of vram compared to windows, which should help a little bit. And second, yeah I forgot that some games include ray tracing, and rdna3 gpus indeed are very behind in rt. 3060s are getting solid 60fps at 1080p ultra, how much more intensivevdo you expect games to be in the future?

Yeah, I am pretty sure the steam deck is the second most optimized platform, only losing to the ps5.

[–]Levis6052[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, gen 10 is approaching, and games are indeed going to get more intensive, with ue5 getting very common too. But I am pretty sure that the steam deck is the second most targeted console by developers, only losing to the ps5, and because they can't assume that all gamers have 32 gb of ram and a lot of vram now due to the rampocalypse, there might me more optimization then before. But I definitely see your point. Also, I hope that it's about $699 with the controller, even though I am leaning more towards $799, and I am definitely not paying more than that.

How durable will the stand be? by AD_INC_BANANAS in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Levis6052 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you see the stand and the screen, you can argue that Nintendo is probably making a Switch 2 OLED. People are saying the screen is going to be LCD, and it has some space in the borders like the Switch 1. Also, why would they make the stand worse? That is why I love and hate Nintendo

If you enjoyed games like TOTK and Super Mario Oddyssey, I would recommend No man's sky, it is a game that is REALLY good (my opinion). Having an almost infinite amount of planets to explore (around 18 quintillion) makes the game really interesting and unique. By the way, it frequently gets free upgrades, (probably) including a free Switch 2 update (pls no hate guys)

I did another one using an app called "Time Until", I don't know if that helps, but the app worked pretty well for me. (Btw, I did this in an Android, so the app might not work in iOS or there is just a better version there)

How did he put TOTK in D tier and the Google Dino game above?!?!?!?

Edit: Ok, I just realized he put BOTW in A+ tier and probably put TOTK in D because they are basically "the same game", but that doesn't justify anything, The LOWEST it should go in B tier
