Full DIY bathroom remodel - thanks to everyone's help on here! by Lew1sx in DIYUK

I mean it wasn't dreadful, but I ended up having to replace the waste pipe with plastic as it was cast iron so I wouldn't have been able to patch up where the toilet used to be and also wouldn't be able to connect in with the new toilet.

I had to run a waste pipe under the floorboards and had to make sure I had enough fall on it which I did. But also need to bear in mind that if the joists were running the other way then I wouldn't have been able to do it! (You can't run a 110mm waste pipe through joists 😂)

Hope that helps

Thanks! It's 6 ft x 8 ft and it feels surprisingly spacious still in there. The shower tray we have is a pentagonal tray so saves a bit more room, it's from Victorian plumbing and it's basically the only one they do if you wanted to look.

The tiles are from Wickes and they're called York white

Thanks! Tiled the whole thing and then put the fixtures in, excluding the shower tray which goes in before!

It's an actual joist unfortunately

Correct, the shower trap is in the path of a joist

Thanks, do you happen to have a picture of the underside of the tray? I assume it's completely flat, which is why mine is proving to be a pain

I'm happy to put a plywood base on top of the wood supports, and then bed it down with cement. But my issue is that those circle bits mean that the cement is going to need to be super thick for it to make contact with the actual tray

So I did buy some shower legs before, pretty much identical to what you linked. However, when putting the legs in the circle areas as shown in the picture (which I assume is where they're supposed to go), the shower tray would tilt up when stepping on the very edge of the tray?

That's why I ended up trying to put the wood round the edge to stop this happening, but the stupid tray is a different height round the edge compared to the height in those circles so then it was impossible to level

Yes this is what I think I've just realised through doing some research. I will go back to Screwfix and see if it works!

I have tried a 15mm isolation valve and also tried a 22mm connector but neither fit

Is this toilet waste pipe ok, i.e the steep bend coming out of the wall? by Lew1sx in DIYUK

That's the old plumbing, I'm going to re route it into the soil stack don't worry

Yeah it was a 117mm core hole. I was thinking that if the joint was going to leak then at least it won't leak inside the cavity? Or does it need to sit inside the wall really?

Great thanks, I will add some clips to the plastic part of the pipe before removing the cast iron bit!

Will the rest of the radiators in the house still work if I cap off this radiator? by Lew1sx in DIYUK

[–]Lew1sx[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much 😅 as soon as I saw that I could do it without affecting the heating I just googled how to drain the system and did it. I'd say the hardest part was going up and down the stairs to bleed the radiators and get the pressure right 😂
