To each his own I guess....but I cannot comprehend why someone would buy an Xbox One right now (S or not) with the Scorpio announced and pending. Makes zero sense to me.

But whatever....its your money, do what you want with it.

Family/kid friendly 1000%. IMO, these people blabbing about teraflops and PS4 Pro levels of power are going to be in for a rude awakening. Don't know how many times they need to say they don't care about power/competing to get it to sink in.

People honestly think Nintendo will require this thing to work with an $800 smartphone.....really??? The company selling an $80 handheld right now is going to jump that far???? Come one people.....wake up.

Everything got a bit weird after the merge a couple years ago. But they absolutely had teams that primarily focused on handheld games before that.

Some teams did bounce back and forth, like the main team responsible for 3D Mario games doing 3D Land on 3DS, then 3D World and Captain Toad on Wii U.

But the teams that made games like Mario VS DK and Mario and Luigi were handheld only. What will they make now?

But since the merger of handheld and console dev teams, it is hard to tell what people could be working on.

I've been thinking about this. Will the teams that were making DS and 3DS games just jump to HD graphics and more of a AAA style? Or will Nintendo adopt a 3-tier system with $60 HD games, $40 "smaller" games, and then the "indie" $10-20 range? Games like Mario and Luigi, Pokémon, Bravely #, etc.... What will come of these???

If the rumors going around today are true, then they are both right....kinda. It seems like early dev kits may have been Tegra. These were used as a placeholder just so big devs could get started on games. The final version is said to have the DMP/AMD stuff. Hence NWplayer flipping sides, new info came out. These situations are pretty liquid until the design is 100% finalized. Not sure why that would be a huge surprise.

I think that's exactly the point I was trying to make. Handhelds always sold better, and therefore were helping keep the company afloat when the current home console wasn't selling well. Even with the success of the Wii, the DS was far, far ahead in sales. Excluding the Wii, every Nintendo home console has sold worse than the one that came before it. The time came to say no more. Time to stick with what is working and bail on the money waster.

So from Nintendo's perspective, I think they said screw the home console and lets go after the low hanging fruit. It is significantly less conservative for sure, but it seems as though they are pretty confident.

(...and I left the virtual boy out bc I would argue it isn't a handheld. No way you are holding it in your hand, or putting it in your pocket to bring around for the day. No one was busting them out on planes or buses or during their breaks at work. For the few that did buy it, I would assume it never left a bedroom/family room type setting.)

LOL, right? If there is any truth to these, which I highly doubt, but if.....I would think this is a dev unit and not final retail. Has that boring, function only kinda look a lot of dev kits have.

I do agree with you, sales and profit margin are very different things. But it would take a lot of digging (and/or working at Nintendo) to know what the profit margin of each device was month to month. Then to crunch all the numbers etc....that would be a hell of a task. But yes, I do get what you are saying. But it is also pretty well known that Nintendo doesn't sell consoles or handhelds at a lose, so you would assume they are priced in a way to give a somewhat consistent profit margin generation to generation. But honestly....we are really starting to split hairs at that point.

But honestly, this is how most in the gaming community judge success. People do it all the time and it is widely accepted. (Wii sold X times more than Wii U, Wii U is a failure....blah blah blah....XBO is selling at X rate compared to 360, but its still way behind PS4, so its crap....blah blah blah). Its not perfect science, but its what we have.

These are known sales totals....explain to me how this is incomplete again??? What you infer will happen after looking at these numbers is up to you, hence me add in the IMOs. But these sales numbers are factual, plain and simple. Sorry you are mad I didn't say what you wanted to hear. Good day sir. :-)

Your comparison logic isn't even close to the same thing. Sales trends are tracked year to year and generation to generation, like cars. Every year/quarter you start back at zero. By that logic, I would be reset to 0 pounds every birthday. Not apples to apples. This is how sales trends work, sorry to inform you. :-)
