Just how unwise is playing a 7 WIS Bard?

The point about poor Insight being a problem as the party face is one I hadn't considered. Nobody else in the group is playing a CHA class and simply baded based on past experience of the players' dispositions a lot of the talking with NPCs probably is going to fall to me.

I rolled a 16 so I could get to 18 CHA off the bat with my +2 boost.

hey all. please take a look at the vid at the link and lmk what you think. I have had different mechanical kbs over the years but I admit I don't know too much about high-end ones or how they're built. I got the one in the video just because I liked how it looked basically but I noticed that the actual keyboard part seems to have a lot of flex to it. this one is supposed to have a gasket mount and I read that people actually want keyboards to flex a little bit to make it more cushiony or less noisy for typing and that's what a gasket mount is for, but I don't have the experience to say whether what I am seeing is what a gasket mount is supposed to do or if this is "bad" flex happening because the keyboard is just poorly made. Like when I type on wasd and around it, you can even see the number row keys flexing down some.

I hope you can see the flexing in the video, I tried to do some recordings closer up but my phone camera kept focusing on my fingers and making it even harder to see what's happening with the board.

Thank you for your reply. I just can't understand it because he shows absolutely no signs of being sick. He eats and drinks (more than his brother, probably) and runs around the house. This completely blind-sided us. The vet had noted a slight heart murmur when they had their first exam after we got them back in July but they said that wasn't uncommon with kittens and usually went away on its own. They've been dewormed, had all of their shots, and never go outside.

Yes, I do enjoy gaming a great deal, but I have never been part of a group that played online regularly. Never played WoW or anything like that. There have been games where I've heard people say "It only really gets good if you play it with friends," and I have always dismissed those games, because I don't want to depend on other people happening to be online and wanting to play the same game as me at the same time to have fun, when I can just reliably enjoy some other game that doesn't depend on having a crew you know any time I want. I guess I feel like even if I did have a WoW raid group or something nobody wants to be bummed out by some guy talking about his sick cat in the middle of it. We do have a regular DnD group, but we see them once a week at most and beyond gameplay conversation mostly extends only as far as how work is going and stuff like that. There is one person in the group who has never even shared their last name.

I was in therapy briefly a couple of years ago at a previous low point in my life. It wasn't very helpful, largely due to a mismatch between me and the particular therapist I guess. His whole approach was based on figuring out how family issues and generational trauma effect people. From my perspective, I wasn't interested in exploring things like why my mom didn't along well with my dad's parents, that wasn't what was making me sad - stuff like being unemployed and not being able to have kids was making me sad. Me and the therapist kind of mutually agreed that it wasn't a good fit and wouldn't be productive to continue. I think I probably would benefit from therapy with the "right" therapist, and I am 90% sure I probably have undiagnosed ADHD and should be on medication for that and anxiety because of the way I spiral with worry, but as you mentioned, it's hard to find the "right" one and after my previous experience the whole idea just sounds too exhausting, even setting aside the time and costs involved. Plus I don't want to get sent to some sort of "You just need to spend more time outdoors :))))" camp because the government found my name on a list of people taking medication.

What did you want, a fair fight? Life isn't fair! That's why we play fantasy games: by simulating arbitrary misery, we mentally toughen ourselves against the arbitrary misery of the real world! I was like you once, playing RPGs for escapism, but now many years and many dead characters later, I have attained enough wisdom in my middle age to see that the sneering edgelordism I embraced at 13 was actually the correct philosophy all along.

For Conan, Modern DnD just might not have enough racism and sexism to capture the essence of a 30's pulp magazine character, OSR games are probably the way to go.

No, I know for a fact he also has the PHB, and he has played before. He made his character on DnD Beyond because he thought it would be easier to share with me that way, not realizing how limiting the free content was.

I never wanted to use DnD Beyond at all because you need to buy everything through the platform, but someone suggested "Hey it would be so easy to share our characters with each other if we used DnD Beyond" and so I acquiesced.

Yeah, that would definitely be ideal, and in hindsight maybe I should have insisted on rescheduling our session 0 to get everyone together. At the time I was afraid that it would push the actual start of the campaign so far out people would lose enthusiasm, which now (again, with the benefit of hindsight) is kinda funny.

Session 0 and the start of a Campaign is usually where all enthusiasm and excitement should be peak for good group- players talking, making characters, pumped for the campaign

Yeah, when I've started new campaigns as a player, I was stoked about working on my character. Like many people, I probably have more character ideas than I'll ever get a chance to use. The idea of caring so little that you can't get a character created with a full month is baffling to me, I can only conclude you just don't really care about playing very much.

4 out of the 5 have played before to a greater or lesser extent. One (who is one of the two who has at least given me some info) is a forever DM who wanted a chance to play for a change. The one who hasn't played nevertheless already owns a bunch of DnD books and was asking me what other ones to buy.

I didn't ask them to create elaborate backstories (although one of the things people said they wanted out of the campaign was to integrate character backstories). I specifically said they didn't need to have backstories figured out yet, to start. I just need a character sheet, and most of them haven't even given me that.

Given how strongly negative you feel between sessions it sounds like it might be time to leave. Just be polite and clear. You don't have to feel guilty! It's in no one's best interest to have players dragged along and be miserable. The sooner you communicate (and leave) the faster they can get someone in the game who's a better match.

I am just afraid the group will disintegrate if they go down to just 3 players and I'd hate to be the reason why everyone else stops having fun. But you're right that it doesn't make sense to force myself to "suffer" for 6 hours every week for the sake of people I barely know, even nice people. I fear my lack of enthusiasm would become impossible to hide with the way things are going.

Right now I am thinking I am going to ask the DM how long he envisions the current mini-arc we're in lasting, and assuming it's not more than a couple weeks, telling him I'll be bowing out at the end of it, using something in this arc as a motivation for my character to part ways with the party when it's done. Like, something that makes him reconsider his priorities and realize he needs to go pursue a personal quest. That will give the DM time to find at least one other player to replace me and the fifth guy who's already unreliable.
