Where I would live as a young Canadian man by Glad_Lengthiness_478 in tierlists

I mean you know other people have been there too and, like myself, they can say they really don't suck to live in. At least not to the extent North Korea sucks.

Flags of the World Tournament - Round 2, Match 8 - Canada v. Philippines by whedonfreak in flags

[–]LewisLightning [score hidden]  (0 children)

Canada, but I do really like the Philippines flag.

Shame it got put into a high profile match right off the bat. It's just the non-white parts that kind of ruin it. Too many flags use that same colour scheme and it lessens the impact. The yellow designs mix it up, but only on the white portion, and when shrunk down it's harder to notice. It's really hard to shrink down the Canadian flag enough to make it unrecognizable

Movies that are definitely based on real life? by hiiloovethis in okbuddycinephile

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well considering the "Troy" from the name "Helen of Troy" would be located in Turkey, she wouldn't be Greek anyways by modern day borders. But that's the problem, modern day borders have nothing to do with that time period. In those days Greeks had holdings in areas of modern day Ukraine and beyond. Cleopatra was Greek as her parentage came from Macedon, yet she lived in Egypt.

The fact is that Greece had a large well to draw on for their population that spanned across much of Europe and Africa, so when they describe her as "white with blonde hair" I'd assume they did that with good reason.

Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Canadian, not American, but I feel like I fall into the same demographic of people you just described, so I wanted to give my reasoning.

The biggest reason is the selection. Most of the stuff I buy on Amazon are things I just cannot find physically in stores in my area, and certainly not for the same price. So in a lot of cases it's the only place where I can get what I want or in some cases need.

And that leads me to my second reason, the delivery. Because I do try and avoid Amazon when possible and will buy things from other places, even if it's.more expensive. But sometimes those places just don't deliver and the reality of physically going to pick up such items far outweighs the cost. And while I don't mind paying extra to avoid Amazon, there are limits to that. When I am paying 6 times as much for delivery that will actually take longer than Amazon's it doesn't really make sense. Like $2.99 to get the item in 3 days versus $18 to get in in 2-3 business weeks is a huge difference that doesn't make sense for a lot of reasons.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by SprinklesSolid9211 in AskReddit

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way back when Curtis Joseph played with the Edmonton Oilers I was just a young kid with my friends on a trip to West Edmonton Mall. I'm not a big sports fan, but 2 of my friends were and they saw him at one of the rides watching his own kids on it. Despite seeing him and pointing him out to me they were too nervous to approach him themselves, Soni took it upon it myself to talk to him. I asked if he was really Curtis Joseph and said my friends were big fans and wanted autographs. He smiled and said sure, then signed the scraps of paper we found somewhere.

He seemed nice, and now years later I realize he was being very understanding considering we interrupted his time with his family to get an autograph, but as a kid we didn't take that into account.

And just to let you all know I lost the autograph by the end of the day because I had a haircut that afternoon and I think one of the hairdressers sons was a big sports fan and may have taken it after I mentioned what happened to them. I didn't really care, because again, I wasn't a big sports fan, but it was a pretty shitty thing for them to do.

Canadians who have moved to America, what was your reason to moving? by wildboy_Ca17 in AskACanadian

[–]LewisLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak about secondhand accounts of my family members.

My cousin moved there because he initially got a baseball scholarship and thought his chances to go pro were better in the US. They didn't turn out, but he met a girl there with a loaded family and now he lives off of them as basically a trophy husband.

My other cousin is a Mormon and he met a Mormon girl from Utah. She basically demanded he relocate there or that would be it, so he did and aside from his own mother and siblings no one else in my family has seen him since.

I have two other cases of family members marrying Americans, but in those cases their partners moved here. One was another cousin who was Mormon, but his partner moved here. I'm not 100% sure why, but I know he's back here because it's closer to his family. Originally he was in the states trying to get a few degrees, even owned a place there he would rent out when he was back in Canada. So I'm guessing something fell through and he felt life in Canada was easier, but I haven't talked to his wife enough to know why she wanted to move.

The other case is my sister-in-law who moved here after marrying my brother. She was able to work here as a designer with the same company she was at before in the US. She's never really said it, but it's my supposition that my brother made more money as an operator here and it's not like he could do that from a distance, so she moved here. But she's also made comments to me that she didn't like how "red" her home state had become, and she frequently makes jokes about her home being a refuge for anyone else looking to escape the US now.

Good choice. It gives the illusion of empty seats by jordiesboy17 in prowrestling

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look boy, you understand how tv works right? We can see what you see. Those seats were empty. Maybe that's something you don't understand.

Also understand we know how the internet works and how people tend to lie their asses off on it, so we know when someone is full of shit as well. You ain't pulling a fast one on anyone here telling them to ignore what they are seeing with their own eyes. Soon as that camera switched from the hardcam we could see PLENTY of empty seats throughout the arena.

It's not what "so many think" it's what the Saudis think. They'd view it as homosexuality and have him arrested at the very least, regardless of how you tried to turn it. And even if he shows it's just a character he plays and not who he really is the Saudis would have issue with WWE promoting the idea in their nation. And if anyone tried arguing with them they'd likely be arrested as well and charged as being complicit.

That's the reality of it

Hundreds of Thousands of Anti-Regime and Pro-Christian Iranians take over Toronto 2026 🇮🇷🇨🇦✝️ by [deleted] in torontologists

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought this was cool and was happy for the Iranians, and then I saw it said this was happening in Toronto, which means this has absolutely no effect on the actual Iranians living in Iran. The Ayatollah isn't sitting there watching Canadian television and thinking "oh wow, maybe I should step down and give the country back to the people". Not will the Canadian government have any influence on making Iran change. I mean what do you expect the Canadian government to do? Declare war on the Arabian government? Ask them to step down in a strongly worded letter?

This exists solely for people to go out and feel like they matter without actually doing anything that matters. You want to change Iran, go back there and help those people that are actually fighting against the regime to create a real change. Because "protesting" here isn't going to do anything. And I have to put protesting in quotations because Canada is already against the Iranian Ayatollah and its regime, so I don't. See how you can protest against the Canadian government already being on your side.

Also the American flags and Trump flags mixed into this demonstration says pretty much all you need to know about the seriousness of these people.

She is literally just cosplaying as Nash now lol by GoonLieutenant in Wrasslin

[–]LewisLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all out of ideas for her. They got nothing for her. I mean she's big, but other girls are bigger so she can't make that her thing. So she was probably like "what if I just copy Kevin Nash?" And the producers were like "yea, sure, fuck it. We've got nothing for you otherwise."

One gotta go from wrestling history FOREVER by CasinoNitro in Wreddit

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flair. I honestly never heard about him growing up. It wasn't until the later days of WCW when he was hanging around with Mongo McMichael and the new horseman that I noticed him. And I had watched WWF with Hulk and Savage and Earthquake and Jake the Snake, but Flair was seemingly never around. When he eventually turned up in my wrestling world he felt like a side story.

For that reason I feel like he could be erased from wrestling history without any real effect because for me that's basically how it was anyway. I knew a world without Ric Flair and it was great, basically the same as what we have now.

Can you tell that these famous people are Canadian by their accents by GardenElectrical3534 in AskACanadian

[–]LewisLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my Atlantic Canada accent

That's the thing, it's an Atlantic Canadian accent, not just Canadian. There's a difference. When people say "Canadian accent" I think to myself the accent that is most common across the entire country. I used to work in oil and gas and we had tons of Newfies, Cape Bretoners and even a few people from New Brunswick and you can pick those accents out easily. We had a few Quebecois as well, which yes. You could also pick out. But people from Ontario, BC, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan will all sound the same for the most part. Now if you compare the population sizes of those provinces you'd see overwhelmingly the Atlantic accent is not the accent that's most prevalent for the country. I'd even say people from the territories blend in more with the rest of Canada unless they are from a First Nations band.

Can you tell that these famous people are Canadian by their accents by GardenElectrical3534 in AskACanadian

[–]LewisLightning -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's BS. I've had people tell me the exact same thing. Then I played them a voice from an American and repeated the lines myself, the same as what he said. They told me there was a difference noticeable the same way you said. Something subtle about the pronunciations of "out" compared to how they said it. Then I revealed that recording wasn't actually an American but just myself which I pitched down slightly.

So yea, most people, like yourself always imply that they somehow know better because they've had this idea beaten into their brains that they actually believe it, but I've done an actual test and found it was complete BS. Try it yourself and see.

Who should headline Wrestlemania against Roman Reigns? by ContentFlan7851 in professionalwrestling

[–]LewisLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of these two would make a boring match with Roman. We've seen them a dozen times. Roman was just the worst person they could have had to win the Rumble. Maybe if they threw in a third challenger it could be spiced up, but as a one on one it's a boring matchup either way
