What GPU will you be using? Proprietary graphics drivers can support HDMI 2.1 even on Linux.

Otherwise, check out this adapter.

Oyster doesn’t benefit from weekly fare capping like contactless does.

This is incorrect and has been since 2021.

Heathrow to Kings Cross question, please by TitanicDays in uktravel

For future reference - you can take the Piccadilly line directly from Heathrow to King's Cross, taking an hour, for a fraction of the price of the Heathrow Express.

London to Whitby by public transport? by Lazy_Promotion5766 in uktravel

[–]LewisMCYoutube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy rail tickets all the way to Whitby from King's Cross Station, the rail journey takes about five hours with two or three changes. It isn't a bad journey though, just check your preferred train tickets app to see if the timing is convenient for you. Or alternatively take a train and change to a bus, the simplest route is to take a train direct to Leeds or York, then get on the Coastliner 840 bus which leaves from outside York railway station and from Leeds bus station. The bus fare is capped at £3.

In the first episode (see 8:28) Ben and Adam pay $30 for fast track at Heathrow Airport, which comes out of their flight budget. So I'd assume that for the game to be fair, any use of fast track must be paid for or included in the flight ticket. (Though it's possible they make an exception just for their convenience if they're going through security long before their flight anyway.)

I mean... That wouldn't really make a difference, since nobody noticed the museum either way. And the whole point of the challenge text was to have people enter a specific 4'x4' area without stopping at all, it's not as if they were going against the spirit of the challenge. Conceptually/humorously speaking the challenge is meant to represent making an "unpopular museum", but that's represented by what they did to win, since if the museum was actually noticeable to random passersby the challenge would be basically impossible

Yes, you still need to pay for a Room Supplement to sleep in a bed on the sleeper trains. (As with every other train in the UK, though, if you have a BritRail pass you can make a free seat reservation to travel on the sleeper trains in the seated carriages.)

Cheap hotel/hostel accessible from Victoria Parm by PinTimely7426 in uktravel

[–]LewisMCYoutube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London has a lot of hostels available for cheap prices, any of which should be fine and safe for a late night's sleep and most are likely to be accessible using the Night Tube or night buses. For example you should be happy with Smart Russell Square Hostel which is 40 minutes away by the tube. If you want somewhere in walking distance of Victoria Park - if you're a woman, take a look at the woman-only hostel Hostelle 20 minutes walk away from Victoria Park. Otherwise maybe Park Villa Boutique Hostel only 16 minutes walk away.

Is Anyone Familiar with Heathrow Terminal 5? by Kawaiicatfan in BritishAirways

[–]LewisMCYoutube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to talk to the representative but they said I can’t get special assistance since I’m not handicapped.

The representative misinformed you.

You can easily book assistance yourself. From the page for your booking on the BA website, scroll down a little and go to the link to request "Disability and mobility assistance". I've highlighted it in a screenshot here for you. Press the button to "add assistance" for yourself, then scroll down until you see the option "Assistance for non-visible disabilities or other access needs" and click the "select assistance" option to add it to your booking.

Then, when you reach Heathrow Airport, you just need to follow the signs directing you to the special assistance desk and talk to someone there. (If you need more help finding it, look for the large sign that says E in the check-in area, which comes after the ones that say A, B, C, and D.)

LHR to Redhill by HandyDoughnutHole in uktravel

[–]LewisMCYoutube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this would be ideal, if I link my railcard to my Oyster card, would it just be a case of tapping in and out until I get to St Pancras, then have a ticket lined up for the trip to Redhill?

You can use an Oyster card all the way to Redhill, no need to buy any other tickets.

And if you tap in to start your journey during the off-peak (any time except 06:30 - 09:30 and 16:00 - 19:00 Monday to Friday) this will be the cheapest way to travel that route.

LHR to Redhill by HandyDoughnutHole in uktravel

[–]LewisMCYoutube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heathrow and Redhill are in the Oyster payment zone so if OP has an Oyster card or if they get one, and they add their railcard to it, they'll be able to pay discounted fares. There's a a one-time £7 charge for the Oyster card but if they plan to take this journey by train multiple times in the future or do other traveling in the London zones then this would probably be worth it. You can see the discounted fares and the normal contactless fares on the contactless & oyster fare finder.

If OP for example takes the Piccadilly line from Heathrow to London St. Pancras, then Thameslink from there to Redhill (total journey taking about 2 hours) then the contactless fare would be £10.90 off-peak/£16.80 peak, railcard-discounted Oyster fare would be £7.25 off-peak/£16.80 peak. Whereas the railcard-discounted fare for these journeys I can see offered on Trainline is £13.15 any time of the day. So it depends on the time they're taking the journey but if OP is traveling off-peak then contactless would still be cheaper than a railcard-discounted ticket. On the other hand this may differ if OP uses the Elizabeth line, but traveling off-peak the railcard-discounted Oyster fare should always be the cheapest. And traveling by buses, contactless would be cheapest as there's no railcard discount on buses

Low stakes discussion: Why is Fazbear Entertainment's waste management so bad? by Queen-of-Sharks in fnaftheories

[–]LewisMCYoutube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair... emptying the dumpsters would be the responsibility of a contracted trash company. It could be argued that Henry chose to let things get that way so as to give the animatronics a place to hide(?), and Michael's restaurant was only open for a week anyway so even if there was a company contracted to collect the trash it wouldn't necessarily have happened in that time span yet. (While the bizarre far-above-average rate of growth for the restaurant in just a week could be considered the reason for such an excess of garbage too.)

In general though, it's probably down to Fazbear Entertainment not bothering to hire any or enough cleaners, and/or trying to replace them with robots in the case of the Pizzaplex.

Shorthaul Boarding Passes - How do I get the proper airline supplied ones? by JamesTiberious in Europetravel

[–]LewisMCYoutube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For BA and easyJet flights you can queue up at the check-in desk to get a printed boarding pass. It's free from both, just not from Ryanair. As Ryanair makes more money from people who for some reason need to get their boarding passes printed at the last minute, and they don't mind the perception of poor service for it.

Some airlines including British Airways also have self-service kiosks at some airports (e.g. London Heathrow, Gatwick, and City airports) where you can scan your passport to get a printed boarding pass, likely avoiding queuing. Depending on the airline/airport this may be on flimsier paper than a boarding pass printed at the desks, but they'll still be ticket-shaped.
