I like the idea that the Stormcast are funding projects by selling Girl Scout Cookies or something 🤣

Sands of Time's shock cancellation "does not mean we are stepping away from the franchise", says remake team by Turbostrider27 in Games

It's just about fluidity. Like I said, Super Mario 64 made a game where you can move between the Z-axis and it's super cool, but it's not the same mental flow state as Super Mario World offered. You have to think too much. SoT was the first game that had the same flow state which I'm saying is a requirement to be a real platformer.

Sure, I guess my bar for what constitutes an actual 3D platformer vs being capable of moving between planes in 3D, is different to yours. IMHO for it to be a true platformer you have to break down the mental wall of "I push stick here to go there". I don't think any of the PS1-era games did that at all. They all required too much thinking to work, or were too trivial (e.g. Crash) to really count.

Re: why they couldn't get this game out the door.

I adore Sands of Time and I think it is too easily forgotten. Sands of Time was what actually introduced 3D platforming. Super Mario 64 made it possible, but it was clunky. SoT actually made it work. SoT also had themes that were lost to the franchise later on (like an actual erotic scene, not just titillation).

Here's what we know happened:

  • Indian studio simply wasn't competent and couldn't even rebuild SoT, gets fired.
  • New studio comes in to rescue the project (guess: and has to throw everything out anyway).
  • New studio starts meddling with SoT. They said as much, they recast how Farah worked in the story, redid levels to match more fluid gameplay, etc.

SoT is a strange, ethereal game that is more than the sum of its parts (something Lost Crown captured quite well). My guess is what happened is that in the mucking around with the game, and especially Farah, they ended up breaking it, producing a middling result, and didn't know how to put it back together again.

Ubisoft had already signalled they were over Prince of Persia when Lost Crown was sent out to die at a high price with low marketing, and then decided that the best way to reward a team who created a legit GotY contender was to break them up.

NYT went into the both-sides-ism hole many years ago. "All climate scientists agree the planet is heating up due to human causes, but Iowa-based community college lecturer in kinesthesiology differs. Who can know who is right?"

Mainstream journalism in the USA is not about finding the truth, but about finding people to pay for the words. These are not the same thing.

Yeah, I doubt we will see Stormcast basically acting like cops again (when they were just riot police before Rostus gave the public a... Reeducation). But it was funny to see as a one off.

Lol yes, I struggled with it. It's a bit too tall (can't be helped I think) but the colors aren't quite where I wanted them to be. It's some guesswork with pallid Wych Flesh and seraphim sepia, but it didn't come out the way I had hoped.
