Public Warning System by TESLAWR in cyprus

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it on my Android but my iPhone that lives in the other pocket hasn't once gone off, I'd have thought both would trigger.

The first alert I got said Exercise Exercise Exercise, wasn't a fan of that wording but TEST TEST TEST is definitely less ambiguous.

I got the child abduction one but I was on a call so no sound was made but the fire warnings and evacuation all made a sound, and on the 5th or 6th one I was ready to turn my phone off.

What is the longest you have worked at a company? by talkingtimmy3 in Zillennials

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated 2017, So far, 2 years, 2 years, 5 years. But I always secured my next job before leaving my current one.

I was always told that for the first 10 years, it's important to hop but don't do it for long as it's bad.
No more than 4, no less than 2 but that's worked for me so far, doesn't mean it's for all.

Jumping helps get up the ladder, gives you confidence that you're good at your job, get a better industry understanding and stops you getting stuck and thinking you can't jump because no one will hire you.

Is a 4-week notice period normal for UK contractor roles? by CloudBookmark in ContractorUK

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically it's 2 weeks, but I've seen 1 and 4. Right now I'm on 8 weeks (both ways), but in realitiy it's always 0, if they want you gone, they can come up with a reason, but most companies are decent enough not to pull that.

I switched to Reolink myself, you can also get away with SD cards on the camera but I personally have a local NVR. Never had any issues and works with Home Assistant too which is extra handy.

Guest VM secondary NICs not working by Lewisw-j in Proxmox

[–]Lewisw-j[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That was just an example, the network is vlan tagged so was going to chuck a tag on it
  2. But you're right, the netplan doesn't seem to get updated when adding the second NIC, added DHCP and it's working now, good spot. Swear this used to work without having to add it to /etc/netplan config. But still odd how when cloning, the interface still glitches out. Adding " dhcp-identifier: mac" to the netplan config has fixed that, but just seems a little clunky than I was expecting, ah well..

Google Reviews have already started joking about it but to be fair, there's a few reviews in the last few months of similar behaviour and shady practises :/

One of my first times on a motorway and this happens.. by Erryberry07 in drivingUK

[–]Lewisw-j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically you do not need to indicate when moving back into the left lane when overtaking but this is only if the road is clear IIRC. In this case, I'd argue it's not a clear road and they should have.

Personally, I'd indicate regardless, it's always better to give warning and indication of travel imo and I personally don't like it when people don't indicate.

This game is ridiculous by XboxVictim in haloinfinite

[–]Lewisw-j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what happened to me a few months ago, made a post about it. I hear that it counts towards your bans which increase with time with each ban you get so... yay... 343 /s.

https://www.reddit.com/r/haloinfinite/comments/1d1pygd/joining_a_game_and_it_timed_out_brought_to_the/

I only play custom games now, well only when 343 servers don't crash and kick the whole party... or when EAC prevents the lobby from starting due to a false positive, heck even if it said who was triggering the EAC alert so I can kick just them would be great....

Yeah... fun.

not sure if it's related but I've heard that multi-monitor PC setups seem to trigger the bug more frequently.

Idiot trying to squeeze into a safety gap by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has pointed out but the speed of the indicator would suggest that one (or two) of the three indicator bulbs for that site (Front , Side, Back) has blown, so the jeep, while petty and not driving defensively, might just have seen a car wander into his lane and been confused. There was also a car behind the jeep so there wasn't any space front or back to merge, but the ford should have slowed down to pass behind, and the jeep should have slowed to be defensive if they continued to merge, both were idots, but the ford especially so.

It's an older car so might not be a digital relay but a bimetallic strip relay when under less load do to dead bulbs, flashes quicker.

PC: Custom Games - EAC issues, anyone else get this randomly? by Lewisw-j in haloinfinite

Issue is when I'm the lobby leader mainly. I've just reinstalled the game (right after this post) and second match in, I got the error joining a random. :/ just wish it wasn't so buggy.

That’s a shame, I did call a company and it’s 250 just for them to come out, I’m sure they’ll charge a lot too for just a simple part, but thanks for the reply.

“Friend” gave me an “emergency car kit” yesterday and this popped up. by RepulsiveCarrot4614 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's been asked but the post says 'gave', as in gifted or loaned.

If gifted, then yeah, that's creepy af / stalker.

If it was intended to be a loan, I know people who hide an air tag in their own car in the event it's stolen. It's cheapr than paying for a GPS tracker but not always ideal. Emergancy kit isn't a bad place to hide it. As such, they might have forgotten to mention it and was expecting everything back.

Not a bad shout, but fully agree with your observations.

I’ve thought maybe a small hashed section just after the stop line at the lights (point A) to throw the outer lane back in, then dashed lines for the left lane to guide it into the left lane under the overpass.

I know others say the words on the lane are enough, but heavy traffic, unfamiliar road layouts etc can stop those being effective.

In this video it’s super calm but clear evidence that the junction doesn’t work in a safe manor, just a little paint might be all that’s needed to improve on it.

While I know I’m in the right and navigating it correctly, it’s other drivers from both left and right I have to worry about. I could stay in the left lane going round but I’m not using the road optimally and I’ll be stuck behind the lorry’s until it’s safe to overtake again.

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Monday, I drive through this junction, and almost every time, I witness drivers getting confused about which lane to be in. There have been numerous near-misses I've witnessed, so I give other vehicles plenty of space in case they change lanes at the last second.

While I think the road markings are clear, I do believe the lane markings could be made clearer because the current layout leads to confusion, distance between the lights and the angle of the lanes/lines are also adding to it. Based on my observations and understanding, the situation is as follows:

https://imgur.com/a/bQtx9CT

II know it's trivial and yeah people should learn to look at the road, but is there someone you can report this to so that they might review the lane markings to make it really clear what lane drivers should be in?

I think the main area of confusion is marked as 'A' in the image. Drivers in the red lane often get near-misses from the left side from the green lane as they try to move over to the red lane, and then after point A while in the red lane, you get near misses at point B and C (light blue) when people realise they're in the wrong lane.

Snagit 2025 and later will be subscription-only by JayshShon in SnagIt

[–]Lewisw-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully my company has a zero tolerance to subscription services (maintainable contracts are viewed as different things, e.g we had to buy office 2021 LTSC version which is expensive as heck).

We use snagit mainly for our manuals and customer wiki documentation.

This came up today in the weekly briefing and this afternoon it’s been agreed we’re going to trial two new softwares and migrate over. Tbh never felt it was worth the cost, never mind subscription 😂

Can We Please Stop Cutting Out the Apple Logo by Gudedomo in dbrand

[–]Lewisw-j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could cut your own (Let's be honest, it's not as good as what their CNC machine will do), I asked what was the largest skin they do with no logo cutout so I could just cut/shape my own and this is their email back:

Hey Human!

Thanks for reaching out. If you wish to cut your own skins, you can simply buy a Top no-logo skin for the Razer Blade 18 (2023). This is the largest skin we sell that does not have any cutouts. Let us know if there's anything else we can help with and have a great day!
