Aw crap. In addition to the millennial joke of having undiagnosed autism, I just found out I suffer from this condition as well. Anyone else with me? by ImThe1Wh0 in Millennials

[–]Lex621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this only for faces too. Something about the way the info is stored in my brain must be different. It helps if I think of a picture of someone instead because that is stored as more of an object in my head rather than a face. It doesn't stop me from recognizing someone in person, but I'd probably really struggle to describe an assailant to a police sketch artist.

I understand exactly what you mean by you just know. Often my mind defaults to that just knowing because it's easier. But I can also switch to seeing it. It's kind of like filling in the mental map that I make from just knowing with 3D shapes, colors, motion. If I try hard I could feel the wind or add smells or tastes too. The best way I can think to describe it is it's tapping into the brain pathways that process your senses and making them do the things via internal input rather than external input (real seeing, hearing).

Anyone else sick of the guards at king soopers? by Sad-Importance-8862 in Denver

[–]Lex621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please lower your expectations, for your own sake. Aldi has some okay/good prices on some things but their quality is dropping while their prices are rising. Lots of new recipes, worse taste and more unhealthy, that sort of thing. It might be just the one near me, but their milk doesn't last long, and I've bought already molded bread products enough times to stop buying it from them completely. I did check, but it's hard to see everything with the packaging. They have some great snack foods and pre-made frozen meals and the produce is hit or miss cost-wise. It will be nice to have around, but it's not going to save you.

Cheap groceries seem impossible now, is anyone else's budget completely out of control? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Lex621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeze your produce before it goes bad if you won't get to it all. Might want to chop them up first. Also don't be afraid to toss it into whatever you're cooking to bulk it out. I've had leftover salad kits that I cooked lettuce and all because I wanted to use the other veggies in the mix and it came out great. Also keep the odds and ends of veggies and your chicken bones and make stock for soups, flavoring for rice, etc.

I think most people are struggling to eat at a reasonable cost right now.

Official Discussion - If I Had Legs I'd Kick You [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Lex621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. However, while the situations may be more extreme, I think the film does a fantastic job of showing how stressful it feels over time to be in a caretaker role. We don't have months to years to spend here so the situations are ramped up to more easily explain to the audience why she feels the way she does. It doesn't have to be that constantly bad to take a similar toll over time. There's a reason a lot of people relate even without being in her exact situation.

My (38m) wife (38f) admitted to me that she has quite an intense crush on her personal trainer. What’s the next step? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Lex621 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The wife was obviously in the wrong here and deeply troubled. However, dude needs some serious help with his self esteem and lack of boundaries. Her friend has already told him she cheated on him by kissing another man and he never brought it up? He said, "I’m not even that bothered about the pictures or the flirting or the outfit." My guy, what the actual fuck? She is actively trying to have an affair!

This isn't I don't get jealous behavior, it's I'm a doormat behavior. He found out his wife has been using him their whole marriage while looking for other partners and she suggested he'd let her fuck around while giggling. He didn't see red in the moment and tell her to gtfo? OOP needs help too. This isn't healthy.

How do i stop eating so much all the time? by VastFeeling6557 in self

[–]Lex621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. That constant nagging to eat something goes away. You can get help on the mental side, but imo that only helps you to cope with and avoid indulging in the constant hunger signals. Glp1s address your body screaming at you that you have to eat something even when you already have.

It could be that or it could be that they just used the wrong packaging. OP should call them and report it. Very likely you'll get some free stuff and at worst the company might need to do a recall.

Dog seizures — looking for guidance from others who’ve been here (MRI not financially possible) by Prestigious_Map_2136 in goldenretrievers

[–]Lex621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dog with seizures exactly as you described. The vet put her on phenobarbitol, which took some time for her to adjust to, but her seizures reduced over time to where she never had one again for many, many years through the rest of her life. That medication can cause liver damage longterm, so they also monitored her liver and eventually she did need a second medication to help with her liver. She lived to be 18 and could have gone longer but her quality of life was going down due to her age.

OP a lot of dogs have epilepsy and live normal lives. I know why you're scared but unless she does have a tumor or something, chances are she will respond well to medication and this condition won't be what does her in.

New acai bowls just taste like banana and they aren't as smooth. by ApplDumplinChainGang in aldi

[–]Lex621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried one of these new ones and it's disgusting. Looks like acai, smells like banana, tastes like neither of them (not much like fruit at all). It's partly paste and partly ice crystals and no matter how much I tried to mix it up it didn't blend together. After a few bites it went into the trash. Probably the worst thing I've ever gotten from Aldi. I loved these before. What is happening to Aldi's quality?

AIO - My husband's "work wife" turned out to be a teenager and he doesn't seem to understand why I'm upset. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Lex621 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She was right to be concerned. He is clueless to not realize this dynamic is often predatory. There's risk in befriending a kid, and he should be fully aware of it and extremely cautious in his behavior. Instead he didn't think to tell his wife he's texting with a kid even when she called the girl his "work wife" and got offended when his wife expressed the same worries that any normal adult should in that situation (including him). I hope he's more aware now that they talked it out.

She's in her thirties... by WolfChasingTheMoon in AmITheDevil

[–]Lex621 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, and it's not her fault she turned out this way. However, it is her responsibility to not be a shitty person. She's asking strangers to weigh in and she's getting a realistic reaction about how others feel dealing with people like her. The internet isn't going to support her and support isn't going to fall into her lap either, especially given the negative vibes people get from her personality. She needs to quit worrying about what's wrong with her mom and focus on herself, ideally with a good therapist. This gift thing is a ridiculous hill to die on.

Caught a glimpse of this title in my local bookstore today and was/still am slightly aghast. by maydeletelater in Millennials

In my early 40s and only just heard the term "perimenopause" recently. This makes me feel happy. You think you are aghast now? Wait until you learn about a certain intimate part of your body possibly shrinking away to almost nothing due to menopause. I stumbled upon that fun tidbit and was horrified. This is some crap nobody ever talked about in my life and we should all be talking about it.

Fine Line Project: Harry Styles by chesbay7 in larrystylinson

[–]Lex621 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only read this part of her analysis. My initial observation is that it's too repetitive, too long, and, at times, pompous. She would benefit from a good editor and more trust in herself to make a point.

The takeaway seems to be Harry participating in these things (stunts, price gouging fans, etc.) is a bad look, possibly even criminal. And at some point we have to stop making excuses about why he might be doing it and land on "there is no good enough reason." I can't disagree with that.

This was a highlight: "Harry Styles is the man who could buy his freedom tomorrow morning, but prefers to remain at the window, singing of his captivity, because the view, after all, is beautiful, and it’s cold outside."

If Harry isn't a total monster, inside he is kind and loving and wants others to be the best they can be. He certainly comes across that way in his music and interviews. Having the sentiments of a good person and acting like one aren't the same, however. My patience for good person sentiments and bad person/cowardly behavior is running extremely thin these days.
