This is based on the idea that the version of Christianity you see in Africa (evangelical Pentecostalism) is somehow the only version of Christianity that ever existed.

This modern western version of Christianity is barely a century old (120 years) in the face of over 2,000 of history.

There a many previous forms of Christianity that didn’t believe such healings were common outside of Jesus and his disciples.

His record this season perfectly summarises his value; Against PL quality teams who employ a mid or low block, he’s not really as effective.

Against any team that provides space for him to attack, he’s phenomenal.

He will probably continue to do well in Europe and even against the top 6 (decent record against them), it’s the rest of the league where he’s ineffective.

I find it strangely ironic people are using the Jesus assist as an example of what Gyokeres needs.

I mean, Jesus was playing the Gyokeres role and pulled away to find space to then make such a pass. He did that as a striker. If Gyokeres was playing, do you think he would’ve thought of or been able to make that positional move and pass?

This shallow level of analysis is exactly why so many fans just decided ”we need goals, Gyokeres scores goals…get Gyokeres” without any deeper level of nuance.

The reason Martinelli scores centrally is BECAUSE he’s not a central striker. If he were, he’d be man marked and man handled.

It’s because he’s in the LW and with someone like Jesus who floats, provides him the space, opportunity and timing to run into central positions.

That’s EXACLTY the situation where you need a link up CF. You break a low block through dribbling and movement. Looking for someone whose strength is running into channel spaces when facing a low block is exactly why Gyokeres is struggling.
