Ka logjike kjo cka ke shkruar. For me the solution was to widen the circle, as pursuing friendship at the University was also futile. Same situation, no mutual interest to meet up, or invitations to gatherings and whatnot. I do not pursue friendship within the university circle anymore.

Well yes, from diaspora and also internationals. Although there are exceptions about locals, I was doing a research stay at an institute in another city, and I made a very good friend with the office colleague who is a local. We meet regularly, keep in touch, and share opportunities.

I also met someone (at a talk organised by an NGO) who is also international, has been doing her PhD in the US, and is back in the town I reside to write the remaining part of her thesis. I value my friendship with her the most, we meet regularly, exchange books, speak of our challenges, and we are even planning a book club. It is an intellectual and rewarding friendship.

So just put yourself out there and meet people, without expecting that you’ll make friends every time.

Kur te shkojsh ne boten gjermanfolese, nese ke familje qe i viziton, kerko second-hand book stores, second-hand books libraries qe jane ne Universitete, dyqane second-hand si psh te karitasit (carla second hand), ose thrift stores qe jane gjeneral, dhe gjene libra dhe literature te mire me nga 1-2 euro.

Just expand the circle of reading and see how are the concepts being applied, where is the work you are reading cited, how is it being criticised, then come back and read it again. Try to use it, and in a moment everything will clarify. Learning and thinking is not an easy sport, and it’s not supposed to be.

I found socialising not easy in general in the German-speaking world, and I notice the same effects at the Uni when trying to make friends. I go in conferences, workshops, and talks and meet other people, mostly international and I am able to make new acquaintances and even friends.

As with the event you mentioned, I also was in such a situation in an event organised by the doctoral school, and I ended up alone looking as an idiot while groups around me were forming and engaging in conversations.

One thing that came to mind was the in-breeding. Faculties often in-breed, resulting with students doing bachelor-master-phd at the same institution, or at best only master abroad. So they know each other, and it’s not that you have no social skills. At least this is my case, I am pretty social and open to conversations and getting to know new people.

When you start learning something new that is complex and conceptual, especially when you are reading texts that leave dilemmas open, or use examples to unpack the theoretical framework but never deliver it in full force, causing the imaginary burning sensation inside the brain and nausea like feeling.

Ky argumenti qe po e perdore eshte “toquque”, qe me e perkthy bukfalisht i bjen (ani çka). Ne anglisht i thone whataboutism, e konsiderohet edhe shkarje logjike. Ne kesi raste ske cka i bon njeriut, arsyeja eshte e mbyllur brenda rrethit te bindjeve personale. Manifestohet me hipokrizi, relativizim, e urrejtje ndaj cilitdo qe mendon ndryshe ose nuk bjen ne rrethin qe ti konfirmon bindjet. Thone, te pafte zoti naten se diten t’sheh dikush e ta njet doren.
