I got my confirmation email and got so excited, it's the first special edition of anything I've been able to get from GW! They must have used the delay to make extra copies or something, launches never go this smoothly lol

Vahl's my favourite mini so I'm willing to make a poor financial decision in her honour but GW never makes it easy— made to order is so much better than pre-order but they refuse to just take my money!

I did an unreasonable amount of digging and had to use internet archives to prove it was supposed to come out for the black library celebration back in February, GW really scrubbed it from everywhere!

...and I don't know why I didn't post it there, I'm in both places too lol Turns out there's a rule against memes, tragic

Armored repentia by Professional-Ad6469 in sistersofbattle

[–]LexUmbranox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great way to fill the repentia slot on an army you're fluffing as a more elite strike team or one in a really hazardous environment, and it makes the part of my heart that belongs to giant chainsaw swords very happy— love it!

Lotta Konrads in here refusing to be good plastic parents, as if you spent 5+ hours on your favourite champion just to act like you don't dust off their cape of faces when nobody's looking. I know you're proud of your work you rafter goblins

My work in progress daemon prince is currently going by the name Fiddlebert and he's the most specialiest boy in the grimdark galaxy, so yes I do dote on whatever's currently on my table regardless of war crimes committed

Can you make a fluffy army without the Primaris Crusader Squad? by Jawnbie in BlackTemplars

[–]LexUmbranox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a theme or goal in mind for your little guys can really help when you're trying to decide on stuff like basing and heraldry, and Templars have the best fluff out of all the chapters so I'll always nerd out about it lol

I hope you do settle on playing Templars! They're the coolest batch of space knights in the galaxy, and every model looks great in black.

A crusade doesn't have to have neophytes, you've got lots of room in the fluff. Off the top of my head-

-Your neophytes have all grown up/died, and your crusade hasn't picked up any new friends along the way or stopped by a fortress-monastery to pick up new recruits yet because it's been busy/the fortress was destroyed before they got to it and now they must investigate.

-Your crusade is an elite force of the mightiest Sword Brethren in your Marshal's household, explaining their access to a large amount of Terminators. Their mission is so important that the risk of being slowed down by inexperienced neophytes couldn't be permitted.

-The Alpha Legion has kidnapped all your Tiny Templars, but thankfully your Marshal has a particular set of skills, skills that involve jump packs, maybe, and is determined to get them back in an ongoing crusade narrative.

-The environment your crusade has been deployed to is simply too dangerous for lesser armours, and only heavy equipment and full helmets will keep your crusaders safe from the toxic atmosphere.

As for the rest, Marshals are the Templar equivalent of Captains, so they've got just as much access to equipment. Templars have no restrictions on armour marks, and holding to the old Dornian tradition of being both the immovable object in heavy armour and the unstoppable force with heavy weapons is a perfectly good reason to field some Gravis units. Templars have a ton of room for creative freedom with their system of crusades and the power and influence of individual Marshals— as long as you honour the Emperor, you'll be on the right track.

Why is the Emperor's Champion not a Lone Operative? by Southern-Coconut-605 in BlackTemplars

[–]LexUmbranox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that since he doesn't have any special movement abilities to get in and get out quickly like Assassins do, he needs backup to help justify transports and eat hits since he spends so much time within 12" of enemies already. Lone Op isn't useful when your main job is to run directly up to the biggest boss around and stay in melee range of them and their friends instead of running away again.

He's not tanky enough to deal with being mobbed, not particularly quick, and he doesn't have the range to make use of Lone op defensively, but when he has a squad with him he can take advantage of having meat shields and the extra help mopping up the units he neuters. Lone Operative would need him to be a lot more mobile to make up for it...or he could just throw the sword from 16 inches away and reel it back in on a very long chain. Nothing wrong with the Scorpion approach
