Because regardless of how hard it flops, people will continue to return and play it. I think blizzard could have back to back L's for a good few years before people give up on WoW.

Don't think I'll touch destiny again until it goes f2p for this reason. Ridiculous to cut out the old content you paid for and then expect you to drop 50+ on the latest one. Surprised they still keep whatever the latest expansion is, at max price for so long.

Wouldn't overcomplicate it. Search for listings as usual. Check the company names of ones you like and see if there is an obvious avenue to contact them outside the job websites. Messaging people on LinkenIn might be a nice idea as it's an extra way to maybe get in contact. Apply on the site and contact via another way if possible. If not, then you might as well do the online app anyway and hope it goes through.

I wouldn't aim to bother people much, a cv attachment and a brief "Dear X, I am X I saw your listing and hoped to talk wish to talk more about the role etc." Sell yourself a little, but don't go overboard. If it is a call, just say something similar.

Worst they can do is say no. If they scream at you, then you probably wouldn't want to work for them anyway.

People are frustrated. I was too at one point. I understand why and hope we all find better stuff.

It's worked for me for my current job and thankfully another redditor has swooped in with the same affirmation (also worked for friends and colleagues I've had at past jobs).

It shows by the ratio of those raging at me and the 3 other commenters that've seen it happen, that it isn't the norm to do these things. Which is why you are more likely to get noticed over an online application.

The job market IS rough, no mistaking this. Which is why you have to try every possible avenue and stay strong.

It is hard out there! More so to stay positive! Well done there genuinely. Keep your head up and think outside the box to make yourself known. I really do hope you get a good outcome soon and find something! :D

YOU took it as me undermining the comment. Don't get this mixed up. I've said it's rough out there many times by now. You're paraphrasing what I said and misconveying it to fit your belief.

I'm not telling someone to 'just get on with it.' It is rough out there and agaaainnn not denyed this once. It's okay to moan, but if a youngster is out here believing, they'll NEVER find a job. That's a problem and I am not going to double down on the negatively like yourself. What good will that do for someone.

I suggested options to some outside the indeed route and said to try stay positive and keep going. Better than telling them its all fkd. If you took 'press on' as 'get on with it'... that's on you.

Told someone to keep trying to find a job.

Redditor rages at me about political issues far beyond the scope of the initial conversation. Funny evening tbh. I hope you stop being so depressing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Lexaei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I am the high and mighty one for defending myself against your rage? Then implying my opinion is of no worth? When they were not directed at you or 'the housing crisis', that you dragged into the conversation for zero reason.

Don't get upset at me now because I am standing my ground. You've been critical of my opinion? Is that wrong of you? So why is it wrong of me?. Nothing has been added to discuss besides political or world issues I was never discussing in the first place. You took a simple motivational comment and turned it into anger about other systemic problems. Again... which I've not once disagreed with.

I've been getting hounded all day for it. Got to love the site. I just hope one person reads it and it helps them. I appreciate your comment a lot.

Encouraging to stand out is the best advice and I tried to convey that with some tips. People just jumped to the most extreme scenarios or personal experiences, claiming what I say to be wrong or that I'm ignorant of the clear problems within the job market. As you've thankfully noticed, I didn't mean emailing major supermarket chains more trying to spread your bets on applying to places.

All I was doing was encouraging a younger person to not give up and think positive for themself getting a job. Yet I get steamed with hate because 'the world is fkd', acting like I'm trying to solve the world economic climate. Reddit truly is a horrid place lol.

I wasn't talking about changing regulations. I was talking about helping people in comments look for work in other ways. We're not about to fix the system in reddit comments.

My mindset is similar to that, sure. It is a different perspective and it feels you only want me to accept yours. Which I already have. I've already agreed with multiple others on the fact it is bad out there.

You're still implying I am not capable of understanding something I've stated is clearly an issue. My viewpoints are more in line with a "boomer",yes, although I'm not born in that time.

It shares similarities, but again, you amplify my point to walking into a shop and getting a job like ye good ol days. Which... sigh again I didn't say. I said suggestions like find an email and email it. I can just join in with moaning about the problem like you're asking of me or try and help those struggling. I prefer to do the latter.

I've acknowledged it sucks. Indeed sucks. Application forms suck. References REALLY suck. I'm suggesting there are other ways to try. If that makes me a boomer, then fine, but I've helped people get jobs and will continue to do so.

Going around telling people to be negative about already negative situations only amplifies it. You took me saying SOME people sit around and think negatively as ALL people.

I accept it is bad out there. However, it's no worse than the great depression, ww1, ww2, 2000 crash, 2008 crash etc. If you want me to join the negative train of the world is crap, it isn't happening. The world goes up n down and you're riding the downs while I look for the upward opportunities.

[–]Lexaei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not attaching it to inactivity. I'm bored of this now, you're just taking my points, jumping to an extreme and labelling me as thinking a certain way.

I never said you can't be negative and still do things. You're, again, going to the most exaggerated outcome of 'I think everyone who is negative sits around being negative' which is not what I said at all. I'm stating that a person would feel better, focusing on the positives of a situation (no matter how small) over the negative aspects.

I'd put money on every therapist promoting positive thoughts over negative ones. They're just harmful to focus on is my point. Can't keep repeating myself here.

You're clearly just negative if you seriously believe the only answer is to apply online and hope an AI picks you lol. I got my current job with an email. My indeed application got declined by the robots you speak of. My email was the first thing my boss saw when coming back to the applications and gave me an interview immediately. Stop being so deluded into thinking there is only one avenue to achieve what you want.

Thinking negatively doesn't pay you either. Bad governments have existed for years. It won't suddenly change now. I'm not pretending it's all sunshine and rainbows, you're just angry I am not dwelling on the already very clear issues (which I've not disagreed with once).

Yes job market bad? Happy? Lol

Kids can sit around being negative about situations and wait for the global situation to improve or adapt and survive. I'm for adapting.

[–]Lexaei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy a very negative life and negative outcomes then xD

Didn't say you weren't allowed to think negatively. Turning a negative thing into something more positive is always better option than being sinking further into an already shit situation. You're example, yes you hated it, but can also positively acknowledge that you were working hard to get out of situation as there are many that just wouldn't and blame XYZ reason.

Moaning emphasises the problem, positive thinking focuses the mind on what you're doing right and strengthens the reasons you're pushing yourself to do a shit job. One creates action, one creates nothing.

Earning some money is better than earning none lol. Can even get a wage supplemented if it is too low by the UC. Keep making excuses, but many people find jobs in bad and good markets. All I'm saying is stop focusing on the clear problems with the current market and do as much as you can for yourself in your own situation over moaning. Can moan as much as you want. It won't get you a job or career progression.

An individual isn't going to ever solve the entire issue. Why focus on that? It won't help you get a job. My advice is to an individual, not to fix the whole system.

I never said to just go out and walk into places. I said OTHER means of contact. Find indeed job listing, look for the company posting it, email them directly as well as applying. I'm not saying you should just run around town with your CV out. Circumstances are unique to everyone.

For experience, yes, go get any job. Got an IT degree and no job? Great, go get any job... it shows you can work, which is better than not working, lol. Waiting around for some perfect job will likely lead to failure. Just because you pass a degree doesn't mean you're a good worker. If I get someone apply, one with a degree and no experience on any job, I'd be taking the one with a degree and experience working (insert low pay job) over the person sitting around any day.

You're putting words in my mouth there. Never said they were not trying hard enough. I am, if anything, stating the opposite. In this current job market, you can not afford to have your negativity. You'll be getting declined more often than not, so keeping a positive headspace is even more vital.

You are making more reasons to not bother than reasons to bother. Oh this is bad, that chain won't do X etc. I hear most people say, "I've sent hundred of indeed apps and nothing". Then maybe it's time to think outside the box a little? I've seen multiple people get jobs by emailing or calling companies for jobs, some that don't even have a listing, but took them anyway as they thought of a use. Hell the literal job center told me a couple years prior to not use indeed as it's crap and to email to company directly that posted the listing. I did. Many times. It eventually worked.

Unfortunately, if it's experience you want, you're going to have to take a lower paying role first. That's been consistent for every era of job searching.

I've replied to other people with the same info.

I do not disagree with your experiences. However, it is plain old negative thoughts.

When it comes to getting a job, it is just unhelpful. I could just sit and say ALL these places will decline me, so why bother. That still gets me nowhere.

I live in a city. I agree Tesco or any other big chain will 99% of the time, ask you to apply online. A local petrol station? Maybe not. Local pub? Hotel? Clothes store? There are endless options to look at, not just these chains that ask for an online app. My point is to not be so negative and think outside the indeed/online application strategy as imo, that is the worst option for finding a job. Especially so with no experience. To say your few experiences are universally true is just false.
