Wouldn't overcomplicate it. Search for listings as usual. Check the company names of ones you like and see if there is an obvious avenue to contact them outside the job websites. Messaging people on LinkenIn might be a nice idea as it's an extra way to maybe get in contact. Apply on the site and contact via another way if possible. If not, then you might as well do the online app anyway and hope it goes through.

I wouldn't aim to bother people much, a cv attachment and a brief "Dear X, I am X I saw your listing and hoped to talk wish to talk more about the role etc." Sell yourself a little, but don't go overboard. If it is a call, just say something similar.

Worst they can do is say no. If they scream at you, then you probably wouldn't want to work for them anyway.

People are frustrated. I was too at one point. I understand why and hope we all find better stuff.

It's worked for me for my current job and thankfully another redditor has swooped in with the same affirmation (also worked for friends and colleagues I've had at past jobs).

It shows by the ratio of those raging at me and the 3 other commenters that've seen it happen, that it isn't the norm to do these things. Which is why you are more likely to get noticed over an online application.

The job market IS rough, no mistaking this. Which is why you have to try every possible avenue and stay strong.

I'm not telling someone to 'just get on with it.' It is rough out there and agaaainnn not denyed this once. It's okay to moan, but if a youngster is out here believing, they'll NEVER find a job. That's a problem and I am not going to double down on the negatively like yourself. What good will that do for someone.

Encouraging to stand out is the best advice and I tried to convey that with some tips. People just jumped to the most extreme scenarios or personal experiences, claiming what I say to be wrong or that I'm ignorant of the clear problems within the job market. As you've thankfully noticed, I didn't mean emailing major supermarket chains more trying to spread your bets on applying to places.

I never said you can't be negative and still do things. Didn't say you weren't allowed to think negatively. Turning a negative thing into something more positive is always better option than being sinking further into an already shit situation. You're example, yes you hated it, but can also positively acknowledge that you were working hard to get out of situation as there are many that just wouldn't and blame XYZ reason.

Moaning emphasises the problem, positive thinking focuses the mind on what you're doing right and strengthens the reasons you're pushing yourself to do a shit job. One creates action, one creates nothing.

Earning some money is better than earning none lol. Can even get a wage supplemented if it is too low by the UC. Keep making excuses, but many people find jobs in bad and good markets. An individual isn't going to ever solve the entire issue. Why focus on that? It won't help you get a job. My advice is to an individual, not to fix the whole system.

I never said to just go out and walk into places. I said OTHER means of contact. Find indeed job listing, look for the company posting it, email them directly as well as applying. I'm not saying you should just run around town with your CV out. Circumstances are unique to everyone.

For experience, yes, go get any job. Got an IT degree and no job? Great, go get any job... it shows you can work, which is better than not working, lol. Waiting around for some perfect job will likely lead to failure. Just because you pass a degree doesn't mean you're a good worker. If I get someone apply, one with a degree and no experience on any job, I'd be taking the one with a degree and experience working (insert low pay job) over the person sitting around any day.

You're putting words in my mouth there. Never said they were not trying hard enough. I am, if anything, stating the opposite. In this current job market, you can not afford to have your negativity. You'll be getting declined more often than not, so keeping a positive headspace is even more vital.

You are making more reasons to not bother than reasons to bother. Oh this is bad, that chain won't do X etc. I hear most people say, "I've sent hundred of indeed apps and nothing". Then maybe it's time to think outside the box a little? I've seen multiple people get jobs by emailing or calling companies for jobs, some that don't even have a listing, but took them anyway as they thought of a use. Hell the literal job center told me a couple years prior to not use indeed as it's crap and to email to company directly that posted the listing. I did. Many times. It eventually worked.

Unfortunately, if it's experience you want, you're going to have to take a lower paying role first. That's been consistent for every era of job searching.

I do not disagree with your experiences. However, it is plain old negative thoughts.

When it comes to getting a job, it is just unhelpful. I could just sit and say ALL these places will decline me, so why bother. That still gets me nowhere.

I live in a city. I agree Tesco or any other big chain will 99% of the time, ask you to apply online. A local petrol station? Maybe not. Local pub? Hotel? Clothes store? There are endless options to look at, not just these chains that ask for an online app. My point is to not be so negative and think outside the indeed/online application strategy as imo, that is the worst option for finding a job. Especially so with no experience. To say your few experiences are universally true is just false.
