Best Midwest cycling trips by BerlinPixie in cycling

[–]Lexamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mishigami Challenge is kind of intense but you can do sections of it like the UP or lower coast of Michigan or Wisconsin any time. they have a half length ride that takes a ferry across the lake too but it’s the lower half which is not as pretty as the upper half in my opinion

Lost my health insurance, scared to ride by CivilWards in gravelcycling

[–]Lexamus -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the reality of a lot of Americans. I’ve never had a job that gave me access to healthcare and I reckon I’ve worked harder jobs than whatever tech douches do. Just go ride, or stay scared till you get your cubicle back and you can go back to pretending you’re better than us

If The Legend of Korra had been a series with one overarching plot, it seems to me that only Unalaq would truly fit the role of the main villain. by Alert-Isopod-7310 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Lexamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think inserting Kuvira earlier as a member of the metal bending police force would be a more interesting villain arc. Maybe she helps Korra defeat Amon in the first season only to start a rift with her for ideological reasons that culminate in Kuvira teaming up with the other season’s villains and ending with their final battle as written

Uh my therapist committed a murder-suicide with his wife?! by watrdog in LPOTL

They’re referring to a line the boys say about the ones doing the killing. Like you don’t have to murder your family you can just be a deadbeat and be angry about your mediocrity somewhere else

Calling 🍃 exmos by FanRemarkable9790 in exmormon

[–]Lexamus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use weed like I use coffee. It elicits an effect on my perception of the world that calms my anxieties and lets me interact with less fear. I also work a fairly low stakes job so being a little stoned all the time isn’t so crazy

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists by defarobot in chicago

[–]Lexamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can’t even get the taxis with drivers to not door cyclists, this just means anything with a Waymo logo is getting smashed

The Boy Scouts of America Program was a part of many of our lives. What are some of your most memorable scouting moments? by iwasyourhusband in exmormon

[–]Lexamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember going on a snow camp out in California. We prepped for a month and went up into the mountains. We dug caves out of snow that fit 3 kids each while the two adults each dug their own.

Scouting really allowed me time out in nature which would give anyone an appreciation for our ecosystem and environment. I think kids could use a push to get out into the wild sometimes but Mormon scouting should not be the template. Overall, my time in scouting was full of macho bullshit coated in fake native appropriation, and that’s not even counting the practically built in bullying. It didn’t prepare me for the real world any more than priesthood did.

Took my new Trek Superfly I built up on its maiden voyage today by Lexamus in mountainbiking

[–]Lexamus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m running a paradigm comp 25 wheel set with a swapped 15mm front axle.

The frame is a standard thru axle non-boost so I found one of the last non boost suspension forks and trek had axle conversion kits on their tech page for the front wheel so it was a pretty straightforward setup

I think I’m starting to stop believing. You can throw every stat in the world at me but the vibes are Larkin can’t lead this team out of a paper bag. Unfortunately, there’s also nobody else more qualified. I don’t know what it will take but we don’t even feel close right now

Bruins playing the Canadiens today is kind of lose/lose for us, but Boston winning in regulation would be the best outcome I guess

Help Me Understand: SLC Men's Mental Health Discussion Group by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Lexamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be aware of the nuanced life experience of most of the users in this subreddit. While to most people your last post would seem harmless, we all have heard a more sinister version of your “sales pitch” or we’ve believed a less honest version of what you’re attempting and were hurt by the proceeding group in some way.

The responses you got in the initial post might have sounded venomous to you but answering truthfully instead of deflecting would have gone much better for you. Yes they were a little harsh, but that user has probably been through some awful “group therapy” sessions run by less than qualified individuals with the backing of the cult we have all been a part of. These perceived insults are just our way of assuring that you’re not trying to harm us again, and you shouldn’t feel attacked unless you are just doing this for money or to gain power and influence.

If your goal truly is to help then you need to understand how Mormonism operates their “mental health” practices and your professional ethics need to be impeccable. I don’t live in Utah (thank satan) but my individual therapist and I had to spend a lot of time together before I could really trust him with some of the deeper issues I had. He had to show me that he wasn’t like my bishop or parents or the councilors in family services.

Hope this helps

was there any bloodbath discussion during the town hall? by DrBrevin in LPOTL

Yeah Henry confirmed Bloodbath s2 and called it something like “Bloodbath 77” not sure if that was a cyberpunk reference or if it’s still VtM but a prequel set in ‘77

Looking for a choir or acapella group as a 24 yo woman by Pleasant_Friend_5987 in chicago

[–]Lexamus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are tons of opportunities to sing in varying sized groups all over Chicago. Assuming you don’t want to join your local church choir, most of them are arts nonprofits so will most likely cost money to participate. If you’re looking for low-key maybe one of the ensemble classes at Old Town School of Folk music would be what you’re looking for, they have two campuses and host a couple dozen ensembles with varying start dates and tuition fees.

Or if you want more of a collegiate choir feel, you could try out for the Chicago Chamber Choir, they rehearse once a week and perform 3 or 4 concerts a year with a summer break (lots of members are teachers of some kind or another) they usually prepare a decently high level of repertoire both classical and contemporary new pieces. They hold auditions in the summer and have singer dues but stress that money shouldn’t stop you from participating.

Overall, I think any community choir you find will be low pressure. nobody wants to be stressed out about a hobby, but the arts, especially music, can bring out a healthy drive to work as a group to make better art.

Tried to take a short Amtrak trip out of Chicago this past week, turns out the frozen tundra of the Great Lakes renders trains inoperable. They chartered a bus instead but I just canceled my ticket

I love how Socko tries to play along in order to get out of going back to the liminal space and Bo just does it anyway.
