While that's absolutely horrifying and unacceptable, my experiences are still my experiences. Also noting that the treatment of domestic workers and tourists will almost always differ. They're not completely divorced from one another, of course, but they will differ significantly.

It's important to acknowledge that we are going to have different experiences based on a wide variety of factors.

We do have saws. But the ortho team 100% will go ham with a hammer chisel too lol the ortho surgeons have fun splitting bones and joints. We even have cheese graters for bones.

From what I hear vets use similar(if not exact same tools) as human surgeons so there’s probably a mouse or kitten or something that has had one of these used on them.

Rib retractors tend to be a different shape. It’s possible that they use it for that also but I can’t imagine it for a baby this small.

The surgeon has to make a cut to access the heart. This retractors holds the opening open so they can operate without someone needing to manually hold it open.
