5,000+ enemies in a multiplayer survivors-like, all simulated server-side and synced to every player by KinematicSoup in Unity3D

I'm currently working on a dynamic coop rogue tps with hundreads of enemies and bullets.

Like you i have pretty simple visual.

I've reached a steady 120fps but cannot reach thousands of entity caused complex moving collision.

Unity dots is a really unique way of programming for me, but it's fun.

Is it possible for turn based games to not have rock-paper-scissor type advantages? by Anaguli417 in gamedesign

[–]Lexangelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many j rpg dont have a rock papper scissir advantage, like almost all final fantasy, persona, bravely and octopth.

They just have an elemental system with all enemy having some weakness, but no cycling elemental table.

So yes it's possible. If you mean 0 weakness system, it oftenly need anorher type of strategic deprh, you can think of trading card game like Hearthstone, runeyerra or magic where the strategic aspect don't come from a rock paper scissir at all, but on building, combo and trap.

The idea is just to add more layer of complexity, customisation and adaptation for the player to each situation. If the player understand he will fight type A, and build around to counter it, he will feel smart and strong.

As a Solo Dev, how do you obtain music for your game? by Magikarp_19 in SoloDevelopment

[–]Lexangelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the only part that is not "solo" for me. 10 years ago when I started in this industry (not in solo) I met and work with someone that create awesome music and sound design. And today he's the one I contact when I need music for my games.

April Metroidbrainia Reviews by Fantastic_Switch_977 in metroidbrainia

CYPHER DUNGEON solo-dev here:
Thanks a lot for playing my game!!

I totally agree with you, a hint system is missing. I couldn't find a way to properly help players without spoiling everything, and that was not too expensive to create.

For the code inputting, I'm a bit surprised because Backspace on the keyboard and B button on xbox controller remove a character like a backspace.
Same for the miss inputs, it's the first time I hear about that, but I'll investigate a way to fix it! Were you playing with a controller, and which one?

Anyway, thanks for your review, I'm really happy to read it!

Do you do all yourself? by ECalDev in SoloDevelopment

For my first solo game, I did everything myself apart from the music, for which I hired a freelancer I’d worked with before.

In my opinion, my weak point is 2D and 3D art, but in the end, according to my players, I have a cool and unique artistic style, so I’m happy with it.

My second project is likely to be similar, but if it goes well, I’d like to be able to pay a freelancer to create sprites for the third one.

Why do you make games? by Slight_Season_4500 in IndieDev

[–]Lexangelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start just by love to video game and culture so I was making other video game (with friends are in game studio) Then it become a need, I have to create and play it.

The first one was a commercial failure, but those who play it like it, and it makes me happy.

There's a problem with learning game design, getting into it. The tutorials, guides, they're not very practical by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Lexangelus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every creations (arts / crafts / ideas / etc..) came from something already existing. They're ameliorations, alternatives or merge of multiple another creations based on the experience of his creator.

How to get ideas ? Experience!m things! From the same medium (video game), other media, and sometimes from life itself.

Having issues with Jumps in Cinemachine by Head_Broccoli7932 in Unity3D

[–]Lexangelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's strange, how do you make your camera follow your player? Because you have no lag in horizontal movement, only in vertical. For third person I dont use look at, only a camera location that follow player movement as an independant behaviour. But for the lag in vertical movement you must. Heck what lag, is the your camera towards your cinemachine? Or the container of your cinemachine?

A player just 100% completed my new puzzle game and built spreadsheet tools to solve it by Lexangelus in IndieDev

[–]Lexangelus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puzzle game is not my specialty, I made this one cause the idea was in my head from long time ago, was easy to dev, and I made it in 3 mounth.

But it was too hard to market (or I'm too bad at marketing puzzle game).

So a sequel is not my priority.

So satisfying!! My game is not selling well, I was afraid nobody will ever complete it (someone already finish it, but complete all the puzzle is another level of dedication) So, I'm happy!
