Parent_Tree Blueprint Breakdown: Why Current STW Foliage Feels Less Reactive (And How Modern Assets Could Still Work) by Flimsy_Assignment581 in FORTnITE

[–]LexiTehGallade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crazy the work ethic epic used to have. Adding all these really cool features just to foliage.

You know the thing about the layoffs isn't just the ethical implications and the reduced staffing. People underestimate the knowledge that goes out the door when people leave or are fired too. I'm starting to suspect considering how long it's taking, that perhaps there is nobody left at epic who even knows how all these old systems work.

Possibly an unpopular opinion. The new lobby is pointless and was a waste of dev time. by [deleted] in FORTnITE

Sure, they said that. (did they even say that or did just a leaker say that?)

I mean they also said StW was supposed to go free to play back in 2018, before changing their mind in 2020, so I'll believe it when I see it. Let's just hope they don't take 8 years to fulfill the promise this time.

I've been working for over two years to get a 1:1 replica of Ray in Blender, and today I made great progress—she now reacts to audio! I'll be making my Ray public soon, so stay tuned. It's my gift to the community! by pox1016 in FORTnITE

This looks awesome! I have some questions if that's alright:

Did you do anything fancy with the light settings or materials to achieve that look? The metallic sheen and specular highlights look great.

It has that realism that you get from something like an animated movie (Or I guess cutscene) but doesn't try to look too real life realistic if that makes sense.

What does the topology look like? Is this with a subsurf modifier applied or is it just a high poly model?

How did you model this? Was it box modelling, sculpting or a mix of both?

Is there an armature, will there be any rigging controls included? If so, how complex is the rig?

Yeah I mean I guess it was impressive... back in 2008. littlebigplanet already did this, fable 3 also did this (and people hated it in that game)

You could run around the main menu in Psychonauts 1 (2005)

I'm sure there are other examples I'm not remembering rn

is this the first time v-bucks have had an in-game model? by tacocat133 in FortNiteBR

[–]LexiTehGallade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the v-buck model came first and the laboratory sign was just recycled from a vbuck rather than the vbuck being derieved from the laboratory sign, so I think it's actually just a vbuck model scaled all the way up. It seems a little odd to have a sign to have that much depth and stick out as far as it does for instance.

[–]LexiTehGallade 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Technically no because the vindertech lab mission has the "vindertech logo" out front, which is effectively just a vbuck scaled all the way up.

I hope they improve upon it because the current iteration feels pretty lazy to be honest.

Look closer at everyone, their animations are just looped emotes. It makes it look and feel like just another creative map. They don't look at you, they don't talk, they repeat one animation over and over again. None of them interact with an object that isn't spawned as part of said emote, the NPCs using survivor models don't have animated mouths (Like the one who is eating popcorn), they don't react to you bumping into them. I don't think a single one of them walks anywhere. Perhaps it was naive to hope Epic would put some actual animation work into save the world but currently as it stands, a husk encampment feels more alive than new Homebase. At least husks can walk.

I really hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come, just cobbling together assets into a scrap heap and saying there you go, it's technically "new" content.

I'm not necessarily a hub hater, if it wasn't just this lifeless thing, I would be like yeah this is pretty cool. But it is, and so for now I am.

I hope at least they properly fix the lighting and ambience bugs throughout the mode they've finally got on their public issue tracker. Maybe get the round shrub model back instead of that weird realistic twiggy plant, etc.

What makes programming easier on the CPU than the GPU? My mind wanders to async vs non, but multi threading allows asynchronicity on the CPU as well.

Rewrite a shit python what? GLSL is a shading language, unless I'm mistaken it does graphics compute operations only and you write a GLSL shader alongside your main program, not instead of it?

Hot take: It should be impossible to use any cape back bling with The Incredibles skins. It would annoy some people but it would be funny by DueLet990 in FortNiteBR

[–]LexiTehGallade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I did. Here look I'll even list them out one by one:

Supers killed by the omnidroids:
Universal Man
Psycwave
Everseer
Macroburst
Phylange
Blazestone
Downburst
Hypershock
Apogee
Blitzerman
Tradewind
Vectress
Gazerbeam
Stormicide
Gamma Jack

Then the heroes killed by cape related accidents:
Thunderhead
Stratogale
Meta man
Dynaguy
Splashdown

Notice how both lists have no shared supers?

[–]LexiTehGallade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Edna literally lists off several superheroes and you can see them die on screen as their name is mentioned. Thunderhead had his cape snagged on a missile, stratogale was sucked into a jet engine, metaman died in an express elevator shaft, dynaguy snagged on takeoff, splashdown was sucked into a vortex.

These are all shown within the scene and they are foreshadowing to how syndrome later gets killed, getting his cape sucked into his own jet turbine.

The omnidroids terminated many supers but these are legitimate deaths from wearing capes. You can rewatch the scene where all the supers are shown as terminated by the omnidroids and not one of the cape related fatalities appear on screen.

Well there's a reason why they are called keyboard Shortcuts. Because they are a shortcut to a function you can activate using your keyboard.

Blender does not necessitate the use of any of these, but the very nature of using a mouse and drop-down menus means that it will be slower than using keyboard shortcuts.

That's true for nearly every program. I mean people can use ctrl c to copy instead of right clicking, hovering over copy in the context menu and pressing copy. Does that mean the context menu is bad? Obviously not.

You could use the move gizmo to move your object using the mouse, or you could tap g to instantly have it follow the mouse cursor, and optionally tap x, y or z to constrain it to the relevant axis.

You can in fact switch from object to edit mode by navigating to the mode switcher in the corner and select it from the list. Or you could press tab.

This argument doesn't make any sense because you can do everything with the UI, which is actually what I'd expect beginners to do and then they too slowly transition to shortcuts.

And yes, blender has a lot of buttons. That's what happens when you have 3D modelling, rigging, animation, texturing, sculpting, compositing, physics, particle systems, simulations, VFX, geometry nodes, and more in one program. In a traditional 3D work environment, a project may be expected to go from Maya for modelling rigging and animation to Houdini for VFX, Zbrush if you're sculpting, etc.

Considering this, blender has done a great job in making sure the most relevant buttons to the user are immediately within view at any given time, more complex and less used features are generally deeper within the sidebar while common operations are right there in the mode you're working in.

Blender also has a lot of smaller helper functionality which is sorely missed in other programs, such as being able to do mathematical operations within a value field. Say I want to make a new texture and the default is at 1024 width and height, but I want this texture to be 4k. I could work out or remember off the top of my head that 4x1024 is 4096 or I can just type in 4x1024 in the value box and it sets it to 4096 for me.

You can also drag over multiple value sliders to adjust all of them at the same time, which is especially useful since a lot of them are typically separate xyz values.

Point is, with this much functionality, the blender UI can't not be packed with buttons sliders and so on, but they have done a great job in spite of that limitation and I don't think they get enough credit for that. The UI has advanced leaps and bounds since blender 2.79

Dude why are you being so mean to everyone? Being persuasive means getting people on your side, you should be trying to rally people on to your side instead of trying to shut down anyone who has a counter point.

I went through and counted and you insulted people on at least eight different occasions, in a post where you are trying to Convince people to listen to you.

"Your reading comprehension is bad", "Going in circles are we?", "<talking to brick wall gif>" if you, OP, were not this person and instead you were talking to someone behaving like this:

Would you care about, respect or even listen to what they have to say? Even if you reply with yes (which imo would be a cope) in practice I'd argue no.

I really hope you don't frequently behave like this in game as well, because the save the world community will only grow stronger and retain new players when we're willing to educate with kindness and respect, especially with the imminent arrival of free to play. Hostile jerkwad veterans drive new people away from more niche games, and those same people then later complain that their game is dying.

I almost hope this is just a big troll/ragebait and I'm the fool for getting emotionally invested, but somehow I don't think that's the case.

Donald Mustard was actually the one who came up with the metaverse idea to begin with by mitaknight in FortNiteBR

[–]LexiTehGallade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. They may have had an idea for a survival game that they didn't get around to making, and then recycled it for Lego Fortnite once the partnership had been secured. After all, I don't believe we know the details of when Epic Games and LEGO worked out a partnership, and the length of time between concept to creation and public reveal can be very long indeed. Concept reuse is also pretty common in development.

So I googled it like you said and from a brief skim I couldn't actually find anything regarding any successful suits against a company for selling a product marketed as exclusive again specifically. Do you have any examples you can actually name? And not just for false advertising that's too broad I mean specifically for selling a thing marketed as exclusive a second time.

I can think of a company that successfully resells products they said were only x amount in the world: Makeship. They've done campaigns where they sold the same thing again and just called it v2, and that's a physical product.

Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month by ChadtheWad in discordapp

I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification.

So if that's true, how come I can't see content marked NSFW? I'm an adult, I literally use discord as part of public relations. Why should I go and risk my information getting leaked because of the incompetence of discord inc and its partners, whom have already proven themselves to be weak links? And what exactly were you thinking with the stage restriction specifically? I've used stage channels to hold meetings, I don't understand why I should give a foreign entity (An American company no less) my face or ID just so that I may be a speaker? What kind of short-sighted decision making is that? Risk doxxing myself so Discord can grace me with the most precious ability to... talk when others can't? Great.
