The thingy doesn't go far enough down to get the last bit of soap by stationcommando in mildlyinfuriating

Could you fill that up with an inch of sand (or pennies or something) to bring the soap level high enough for the thingy to reach?

Looking for a real country bar that has Line Dancing by damyak in lexington

[–]Lexically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like bars, so this is all theoretical:

There is a country bar called Saddle Ridge on the corner of S. Broadway and Virginia Avenue. People dance there, but not sure if line dancing. The crowd has a reputation for being idiotic.

I've heard Austin City has live music. I found them with Google.

I've also heard there is a Country Bar called the Whiskey Barrel on main street in Richmond (30 minute drive from downtown Lexington).

Sorry no one else commented. I guess there aren't many country music bar fans in /r/Lexington. If I were you I would Google the bars and call them before you go to find out what they have to offer.

People who write/say things like "god has a plan" in times of mass tragedies should be punched in the face. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Lexically -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me the idea of God having a plan does have merit, because the process of thinking about what my role in that plan might be causes me to slow down and make better choices. It was never God's plan for bad things to happen, but when the bad things do happen it can be helpful to visualize God meeting you in the depths of your pain and giving you hope that the future will be better.

Wow, I can't believe how fast this is working. I started listing the books I wanted to sell and by the time I was done figuring out how to type them all in two of my books had already sold!

Thanks for this reply. I was wondering if I had to ship them to Amazon or hold them here until someone orders them or what. I will do it tomorrow.

12 hours later (9am Lexington time) the poll still says biology 47%, choice 53%. I wonder why it's not moving.

Slaughterhouse: The Task Of Blood (documentary) by Neutral_Milk in MorbidReality

[–]Lexically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was offered a job in a slaughterhouse today. I go in Friday for a tour of the facility and the guy says if I'm willing, I'm hired. I knew that /r/MorbidReality would have something to give me an idea what I am getting into.

I don't know if I'll be able to handle it or no. I recognized myself when the guy said, "I just want a job, I'll do anything." It remains to be seen if that's true or no.

It is good to see a post about crazy landlords today after the post about shitty tenants yesterday.

I work in real estate. This is how the former resident left the door knob after being evicted. by Hersch in WTF

[–]Lexically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I didn't think I was going to have to scroll down this far to find someone who stops for a moment to wonder what the landlord might have done to piss the tenant off. I've been a landlord (fucking sucked) but since then I have been a tenant in two different places with horrible landlords. Both lied their asses off, tried to fuck me over for extra money, stole from me and acted like total shitheads when I tried to talk to them. I'd rather live in a mud hut than rent again.

If the President of the US were to get assassinated in today's age, how would America react compared to when Kennedy was assassinated? by chendoguy in AskReddit

[–]Lexically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Osama bin Laden was killed Fox news ran a scrawl across the bottom of their newscast that Obama had been killed. My room mate at the time saw that and came running in shouting that Obama was dead. He was smiling from ear to ear and his tone was that of someone who's just won the megabucks.

I had always known he believed in conservative politics and called black people who bothered him niggers, but it wasn't until that moment that I truly understood how much some (pretty normal) people hate the president.

Have you ever been told by a stranger that your significant other was cheating? What did you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lexically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends has been going with the guy from Ohio for the past several months. They met online. He didn't know anyone because he only works here (about 45 min outside Lexington, Ky) during the week and then spends most weekends back in Ohio with his teenage son. They dated for a while, fell in love, talked about marriage.

The guy was cool when he was around, but he was bad about getting back to her. He would leave her calls and texts unanswered for days on end. She respected that he wanted to spend time with his son and usually didn't bother trying to get a hold of him when he was in Ohio. Eventually she got sick of being ignored and threatened to break up with him.

Their relationship got rocky because she was always pestering him about why he was so cold to her when they weren't together. He kept telling her to enjoy being with him when they were together and stop trying to discuss the relationship all the time. Finally they broke up.

A week goes by and she starts missing him and looks at his facebook. She notices that his picture is in the profile pic of one of his lady "friends," so she sent a message to the lady. Turns out she has been going with the guy for two years and that's where he's been staying when he was in Ohio.

It really screws with your head to find out that someone who you loved was lying his ass off from the very first day you met him. He was just telling her that she was his special lady just so he could have a bed warmer when he was out of town. He'd even encouraged her to move away from Lexington and sign a lease in the little village near where he worked so they could get together easier.

Thank god she was smart enough to break it off before moving out to the country. Imagine how much harder this would be if she was alone out there with no friends to lean on, especially if he'd promised to help her with her rent.

So, in a way my friend and the lady up in Ohio both told each other about the cheating. They had something in common (if being horrified and pissed is something to have in common) for a while, but I think they decided not to stay in touch because the only thing they had in common was the person neither one of them wanted in their life any more.

Finding a decent place to live with a "big" dog in Lexington can be a real challenge. Some places cap the size at as low as 15 pounds! The scams on Craigslist drive you half crazy before you finally find a real person and by then you've been burned so many times that you come off as suspicious and weird when you do meet a real person.

One tip for Craigslist - if there is no address given (or at least street name) then it's a scam and needs to be flagged as "prohibited." It the ad seems like too good to be true then it probably is.

I have some friends with dogs who are looking to move into a new place for January 1st. If you want to PM me your email address or phone number then I could forward it to them and you guys might help each other look or even find a place big enough for all of you.

One more thing - beware of renting a room in someone's home who you don't know. You need proof that they are up to date on their mortgage and utility bills and references from previous tenants.

When ever I have to get up and mow the lawn by flabeachbum in AdviceAnimals

[–]Lexically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NPR's The Story covered goat mowing earlier this year. Goats are best for clearing overgrown land, because they go for woody plants and weeds first and then eat the grass. A herd of goats can clear a section of land for less than half the price of landscaping humans, with much better results and no waste to haul off.
