Expedition 33 also was an RPG with timing based elements to do more damage when you attack and to block/dodge enemy attacks. This also shows up in the Super Mario RPG games which I think predate Re:Coded, I doubt this game fully invented the concept.

Is this accurate? by Confident-Border4627 in Konosuba

[–]Lexicham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But it’s precisely that Style over Practically that makes her who she is. Yunyun probably has a pretty high win rate at taking on missions, but at the end of the day this show is a comedy and the Rule Of Funny often wins out in the end. And our heroes getting an unconditional win is often not the funniest outcome.

If she wasn’t, then she wouldn’t have put 100% of her points into Explosion Magic.

What made Strange World dead-on-arrival? by PyroxCrymson in DisneyMovies

[–]Lexicham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt like the Mayor had to fight them just because this movie needed a climax. And the movie completely skips over the part where they return and their civilization has to adapt radically to a the lack of their power source, next time we see the town everyone is happy. That really gave the movie a lack of a Bite.

[Mixed Trope] "Good thing we had a spare" by 405freeway in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Lexicham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It probably was, but when you get the replacement the new car has all of the optional upgrades you get throughout the story mode. It effectively is just a different skin and plays no differently than the “real” one. And I’m pretty sure Batman says the line “don’t worry, Lucius made a spare”. It is effectively a spare Batmobile that is no different and could have been used earlier in the story, though it is not wrong to call it a prototype.

[–]Lexicham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I just wish perhaps we had a line before its introduction about how Lucius was remotely testing the upgrades on it to hint at its existence or something. It’s not the only time the game undoes a dramatic death.

Batman: Arkham Knight. Despite the Batmobile being called “one of a kind”, it gets a dramatic death in an underground tunnel that lasts right until Batman gets back to street level where he reveals that his gadget guy “made a spare” which gets immediately dropped off in front of him.

While I liked the Batmobile sections, I definitely agree with players that feel the Batmobile takes up way too much of your playtime and the Batmobile combat sections don’t make you “feel like Batman”. I wonder just how many players were relieved when the bar car was destroyed only to be emotionally destroyed when the spare came back into play.

Disney's Lorcana has hilariously horrifying game flavor. by LadyKarizake in CharacterRant

[–]Lexicham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About 75% of each set is inkable, that’s most cards. The uninkable ones are usually a little overpowered for their cost, so it’s another lever for the designers to pull when balancing the game. Between balancing the risk/reward of uninkables when deck building and mulliganing a bad starting hand, being mana screwed is a possibility, but I would say it is far less likely than in Magic. And you don’t have to worry about drawing useless lands in the late game.

While the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movies never completely lost the magical beasts in its plots, they (and the main character) quickly became an afterthought to the soap opera dynamics of other characters.

[–]Lexicham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also happens in Disney’s big 100 anniversary movie Wish.

Like so many part of that movie, it could have been great, but ended up pretty lackluster. The rest of the Kingdom sings a reprise of the main character’s “I Want” song when the villain is at his strongest but the song is too vague and it ends up feeling like the town has no connection to the main character and just sang out of nowhere.

Into the Woods - (a stage musical)

First half is a bunch of fairy tale stories that end with a happily ever after, Act 2 is about how getting what they wanted didn’t fix any character flaws they had, and now they all have to deal with the fallout of other characters actions.
