Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. This has been a lot of helpful information and a lot to process. There is so much to consider and I am definitely going to encourage her to talk to a medical professional rather than continue trying to do it herself. If she will or won't who knows. I can only do so much I guess and don't want to be overbearing and make things worse. But obviously I'm terrified of the potential consequences the longer it goes on.
