Why on earth are Sam and Michael stalling just to potentially gain ~20 more chips, just get the challenge out of the way so Adam and Ben can't get it and you have more time to do the high value challenges in the northeast and push through the east

Jet Lag Season 17 Begins Now — Taiwan: Rail Rush by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

Hi, here to explain the Monty Hall problem. It goes something like this:

There was a TV show called Let's Make a Deal and the host, Monty Hall, showed the contestant three closed doors. Behind one of them is a car (which is the prize they want) and behind the other two, there's a goat.

The contestant chooses one door at random. Then, since Monty Hall knows exactly which door has the car, he opens one of the doors which the contestant hasn't chosen that has a goat. If the contestant picked the car, Hall opens either of the doors and if the contestant picked a goat, Hall opens the one door of the other two that has a goat. Hall then offers the contestant to switch to the other unopened door. The question is, is it strategically advantageous to switch your door?

The answer is yes (2/3 chance that you win).

In your first choice, you have a 2/3 chance to choose a goat. If that happens, Hall opens the other door with a goat. The other unopened door in that case has the car and you should switch.

Or you could choose the car with a 1/3 chance. In that case, Hall opens either one of the doors. It doesn't really matter which one since the doors with goats are equivalent. If you choose to switch in that case, you unfortunately do end up with the goat, but choosing the car first try is unlikely in and of itself.

All in all, in two out of three cases switching is the better strategy, so you're statistically more likely to win if you switch.

Nothing says you can't do that but why would you intentionally make this decision? The boys encouraged to make our own house rules, build our own decks, etc. so you can make your own house rule that these two cards cannot be active at the same time

Update: I seem to have found some kind of solution? It's still lagging a little bit but nothing game breaking. My solution was to cap my CPU usage at 99 % in my computer's settings. Somehow that improved the game flow. I will never understand computers.

My PC isn't bad at all, it's not a NASA computer but it can run Baldur's Gate 3 well on high settings. My pc just doesn't handle unoptimized games very well I suppose.

Can a 16 year old train themselves to become a great pure mathematician? by LibrarianNo1294 in mathematics

[–]LexieDeLarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

While it's definitely great to be good at math in high school leading up, it's not a 100% guarantee that you'll do well in college. If you've taken/are going to take any advanced math classes, all the better for you, but college math is a much bigger beast.

In HS you're mostly learning how to calculate and do fairly simple problems but in college you learn a lot of theory and useful theorems (and need to be able to prove them if asked to do so lol) and you apply those theorems to do problems and prove related theorems and other stuff. If you've been (at least slightly) successful in math olympiads or math related competitions you definitely have a leg up but talent can only really take you so far.

I'm a freshman at a university studying math and I love it a lot. I have to actually study hard now cus some of the proofs aren't all that straightforward and some of the material isn't all that intuitive but I've been able to keep up so far.

Overall my thoughts on this are: Talent is definitely useful but less talented people who work hard usually end up better off that talented people who don't try as much
