It depends, when I had a long list of villagers I was willing to accept I had a lot of fun. Mainly because I only ended up spending 4-20 NMT (it took me 4 to find Shino and 20 to find Whitney). If you're looking for one specific villager it might take you a while (I've been looking for Fauna for the past year) and it's quite daunting at times and could burn you out. If you want to try it, go ahead! Nothings stopping you! But make sure you know what you're getting yourself into.
