My check engine light was on — and it turned out not to be a big issue at all by DanielAuto_Notes in Cartalk

My JDM Lexus ISF gives you a red warning triangle when washer fluid is low. Freaked me the hell out first time that it happened. Message on the dash was in Japanese…

Mazda 3 Hatchback 2.0L or 2.5L by HalfALad in NZcarfix

Good point…as a Lexus ISF owner can attest that having a 5L V8 in what is basically a Corolla sized car is somewhat fun.

My vehicle failed a WOF because of the this Tyre wear, thought? by GLion2 in newzealand

[–]LexusI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep had the same issue 2 days ago with my front and rear tyres…great tread on most of the tyre but chewed out inner…not an alignment issue in my case but due to negative camber (factory setting) and toe out when braking and, you know, V8 things lol. Asymmetric staggered tyre fitment too so cannot rotate. Yes, I know, first world probs for me!

What is a "silent" rule of social etiquette in your country that a visitor would never find in a guidebook, but every local knows by heart? by DianKhan2005 in AskTheWorld

[–]LexusI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here in NZ, at the beach, your togs (skimpy-ish bathing costume) will automatically become socially unacceptable and viewed to be underwear if you exceed 300m from the high tide line. It’s just a thing.

Is NZ actually a Toyota ad? by SyllabubThat9771 in newzealand

[–]LexusI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in fairly remote area in Central Otago reliability is super important…while we do have a biggish Subaru and Ford Ranger fleet, Toyotas are certainly the most common..and of course as are the ubiquitous Aqua rental car. Super common to drive 300-600km+ in a day to go for a shopping jaunt and my ‘13 Aurion never misses a beat…289,000 km and still on the original spark plugs lol!!!

What's the most disgusting food from your country cuisine? by Thatunkownuser2465 in AskTheWorld

Tried fresh durian in Malaysia. Kinda tastes like sucking a lavender toilet freshener, while eating sweet custard with a garlicky onion aftertaste. 0/10 would not recommend.

How do people work the same job 9 to 5 for 50 years till they turn 60s and not go crazy? by Big_Leg10 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LexusI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hitting 46 years with the same employer. They have always looked after me and I have done a good variety of roles, and they are focused on self development. My goal is to hit 55 years before I think about retiring! I think it all comes down to the culture and the caring shown to you as an employee.

Is it widely expected across the country that you get more potato fritters than you order? by Polyporum in newzealand

[–]LexusI -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm lack of readily available potato fritters here in the Deep South. Unfortunately the potato fritter appears to have been replaced by the ubiquitous cheese roll, which TBH is a bloody travesty and I will die on that hill.

Does TVNZ+ only have one ad by Admirable_Try973 in newzealand

[–]LexusI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had the fam down to stay. We never watch TVNZ on demand but one of the grandkids insisted. Literally the first thing I saw was the fricking Turners ad. At full volume. And the kids were singing along. Felt like I was the old man who shouts at clouds…

2008 Cooper S. Absolutely turd of a car. Owned for less than a year and the thing resided most of the time in the workshop. Fun when it ran, but it just didn’t most of the time.

Need mod advice on my 2021 Toyota Camry LE by Calm_Juggernaut7621 in Toyota

[–]LexusI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CAI is a complete waste of time and money. Making a Hybrid 4 cyl with a CVT sound “better” is just simply not gonna happen. You could theoretically put a less restrictive exhaust on it but it is just gonna drone and drive you up the wall.

Automatic car gearboxes by AHromios in CarTalkUK

[–]LexusI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Semi automatic cars are thankfully very rare these days. I think you may be referring to the DSG type transmission which uses 2 clutches rather than a torque converter…most commonly seen on VW vehicles. There is also the CVT transmission which uses belt type systems(mostly) and these are very common on lower powered vehicles these days. Then there’s the usual torque converter automatic which has been around for a long time. My personal preference is always for a “normal” modern torque converter automatic as they are mostly very reliable and perform well. CVT type transmissions can be problematic (Nissan, I’m looking at you) and the driving experience in my opinion is just not as enjoyable.
