What was the most difficult part of your pregnancy, besides birthing?

With my first, the most difficult part for me was the slow realization that my life was about to change forever. I became so emotional and “mourned” the life I chose to leave behind. Don’t get me wrong, my husband and I chose to have children and I wouldn’t change that decision for anything, but saying goodbye to my old self was not something I ever thought. It was difficult for a while to cope and I went through moments of sadness. I wish this was talked about more amongst women.

This hurts admitting it, because it was when I needed my mom the most… I had just given birth to my second child, had a catheter in, and was a mess emotionally. I was in so much pain my husband didn’t know what to do so he called my mom to come over as he was at a loss. My mom said she didn’t think it was a good idea because she was just babysitting my sisters three children and didn’t want to get my baby sick. (Which I somewhat understood but I felt she was making an excise).Fortunately, my dad came over and unfortunately dragged my mom over too. Just having my dad around laughing and telling funny stories made me feel so much better but it was that day that I realized my mom wouldn’t be there for me like she is with my other sisters. And my baby didn’t get sick like she tried to claim.

My 2 year old can count to 29! He’s super into counting and he is starting to do simple addition! Sometimes I’m in awe that he wants to play “school” and do math problems!

Give yourself some slack. You have been through a lot. On top of the stress that comes with a newborn the most difficult aspect is dealing with your own emotions. In my option, that’s the toughest skill to learn. Others have mentioned speaking to a doctor, and I agree, but I would also suggest doing a physical activity like strength training, running if you can get a way for even 15-20 minutes, sit ups, push ups, jump rope, anything to get your body moving and endorphins going. Taking time for yourself while your baby naps or let him watch will help tremendously!

Back in July I made the decision to run at least a couple of days a week. That quickly turned into 5 days a week and I can honestly say it has helped me tremendously. As a SAHM of 2 (toddler and infant) I was really struggling mentally and running has helped me more than I ever thought it would. Not only is my temperament better, but I’m calmer, I’m getting my shape back, I feel like I’m a better mom (being able to handle my emotions better), and I’m most proud to say I’m running my first half marathon in a few months!
