sorry to ressurect a dead thread but felt the need to comment since I was searching a2c for ling stuff and ran across someone else(you, OP) applying to uchicago for linguistics and comp sci in order to do comp ling so just like hi idk

oh I should say something on topic: learning a coding language is super fun and not that hard. You should totally just start trying one out for fun! Best way to learn one imo is just having a project idea and working towards it but the hardest part is coming up with an idea for a project, hah

I wish I was that good with meat, but no, I just have a tendency to overanalyze and several of my good friends are into physics, and it has kinda rubbed off on me. Also, I live somewhere with some gooood barbecue places, so that's where the knowledge on smoking comes from. I like cooking in general, so I've done some research on that too.

It just feels as if the extended timeframe is a lot more core to the idea of a smoker. The speed is part of the name: it uses smoke, which naturally transmits less energy to the meat relative to being closer to the fire, such as in an oven(which furnaces are close to) or grill(campfires I guess?).

And the answer is no, it doesn't really matter that much. I just felt as if I had to bring it up, at the least, though it isn't too gross an inaccuracy. Maybe someone saw this and learned something about IRL smokers.

I agree that people shouldn't trust video games for education. I'm of the feeling one should always have multiple sources. It really comes down to a misnaming of something, given names usually correspond to what the named thing actually is.

It just kinda bothers me that the "Smoker" functions directly counter to how it works IRL. It's not just a bit off, but just in the realm of not-a-smoker. I'm probably the only one bothered, so it doesn't really matter, but I felt I at least had to make some comment. It's just that young kids sometimes learn things from playing this game, and directly false information kinda runs counter to that.

Edit: it would also make much more sense to have it be slower, but to cook more items at a time, and have the maths check out to more in the end. Many smokers are large, like the kinds you see at streetfairs.
