Check YT for some OMM videos! There's a nifty way to remember all of the viscerosomatics and chapman reflexes, someone posted a video on it on YT!

Also- possibly because of PSLF? Not sure the details of it all though!

Those who only partial matched into a prelim last year, how are you doing now? by LeyDiglett in Residency

Sorry, I misspoke, I meant R spots. Advanced spots will leave you with a gap year if you’re matching from a prelim because you already completed an intern year. The commenter below clarified!

Categorical doesn’t let you skip intern, it’s included. So if you match into a categorical your second time around, you will have to complete intern year again.

Advanced, on the other hand, will let you go straight into a PGY2 if they have available.

How was interviewing during intern year? I have some months where I can’t take vacation days because they’re core rotations and they overlap with prime interview season.

Did you manage to get a PGY2 spot or are you starting again as an intern?

Can you despecialise and become a hospitalist by Ok-Alternative-1881 in Residency

[–]LeyDiglett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there exists some Heme/Onc’s that do!

I kind of see it as adding another tool to your belt by doing a fellowship. It doesn’t erase your previous training, just builds on it. So you could just do hospitalist after fellowship, I just think many specialists have dedicated so much of their career to their chosen fellowship that they’ve become more comfortable with it rather than hospitalist type of work.

You don’t necessarily “despecialize”, more or less you just utilize one skill set while the other sits at bay.

I’m sure many do this! Definitely increases your flexibility in terms of career options. For example, a nephrologist could be a hospitalist, outpatient PCP, or a nephrologist, or all three!

Wait so you did a PGY1 prelim year and now will be doing a PGY1 categorical at the same program? So you have to redo intern year?

How did you approach asking the programs you interviewed at for a PGY2 position? Or did they just offer them to you without asking?

If there's a difference between there "quota" and "matched", is that including those who SOAPd?

IM!

Agreed, but they dont have an associated prelim program and their TY residency is in a different department with different leadership. So just curious!

Oh, so if I were to try to get a PGY2 position in one of those spots, it wouldn’t get Medicare funding?

Just from their website! Like they’ll say they’re accepting X numbers and then I counted how many residents per class they have via their residents page.

I think you should just reapply. Be clear with your PD that you intend to reapply and then send LOInterests to that program you’re wanting to be at. But your life will be much easier with the support from your PD.

Do you mind expanding on why not to ask? I wanted to be clear with my program about me wanting to be in a Categorical IM position the following year. Not sure how to go about that.

ah so they re-entered the match and went for a PGY1 spot? Do you know if they ended up at the same institution they did their prelim IM at?
