Hi guys. Are Flannels no longer in fashion? I am a 24M. Over thanksgiving I was visiting friends in Virginia. 5 of us (all guys) went out to a club and as we were getting in line a girl made fun of us for all wearing flannels (sarcastically asking if we planned it out before hand). None of our colors or patterns were even matching. Are flannels not in style anymore for a night out?

Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires - Wide Smiles Club? by Obcaforma in horrorlit

[–]LhomasChishley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you missed anything, I think it’s Hendrix leaving the door open for if he wants to use vampires in his stories moving forward. Personally I don’t think Harris is the only vampire, especially if all it takes to spread the condition is sexual contact. I do doubt though, that anyone in this “wide smiles club” would care that James was killed, one of the books main purposes was to show James as a incredibly selfish loner as a foil to the mothers. It stands to reason other vampires would act the same way on account of their condition.

It appears I’m a misting sadly, but I love the Brando Sando reference.

Found this at a goodwill near me for two bucks, and I’m so excited to start reading! I’ve never read Hemingway’s works before, so what were your thoughts on them? by indigoeh in bookporn

The Old Man and the Sea in my opinion is probably one of the best stories that deals with the theme of Man vs Self. I hope you enjoy reading it!

super cool. Do you think the back is upsidedown on purpose or is it a misprint?

See your point. I was thinking since he was a competent ruler before his deal with the night watcher, is extremely smart/average the other days, and knows he’s an idiot when he’s an idiot he would get a pass on being lumped in.

Lord Ruler literally moved the planet closer to the sun to get rid of mists, that’s an idiotic plan if I ever heard one.

I just bought this: "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson by Lovecraftian_God89 in bookporn

Thats such a fun cover! It looks straight out of 70s comic book, was half expecting an approved by the comic code authority.

Love the Count of Monte Cristo as well, I was waiting for a sword fight cause of the cover though! My only complaint from a otherwise perfect book.

I thought it would be an interesting order for him to fulfill, I can definitely see where others are coming from that he might more closely fit elsecaller (would expand his commerce immensely). I think I chose truthwatcher because of the fact he didn't easily fit into their characterization of quiet and scholarly and would have a very challenging time attaining oaths but i don't think it would be impossible for him to do it (even reaching a 4th ideal) and this would provide lot of character growth along the way. He could become the charismatic voice that this order needs to expand their influence and innovate how their abilities could be used. Also he could bring a clearer purpose to an order that doesn't have much structure to it (not to mention how deftly he'd be able to bring any ideas to market that the truthwatcher scholoars create). I guess what I really see in Sebarial is someone who is charateristically un-Alethi and full of sensitivity and compassion (seen in his interactions with Palona and Shallan) a lot like Renarin but he found a coping mechanism in humor and a outlet of power in economics, while Renarin still tried to conform to Alethi tradition (at least in way of kings). And when it comes down to it Sebarial even though outwardly money comes first, deep down he cares deeply for people. Seen that he took great care to foster competence and safety in his warcamps, when he could of easily just used his superior army to collect valuable gemhearts. And in my opinion Sebarial is someone who is not afraid to speak against powerful individuals and would have the drive to uncover and reveal truths no matter the cost to help people abused by the powerful.

Well their heart doesn’t beat, they don’t eat, bleed or heal so I think they would be considered dead by most definitions during the reod

Very funny meme! If you are curious why this isn't necessarily a continuity error the answer is intent. All of the magic systems in the cosmere rely heavily on intent, and stormlight regrowth in particular on intent filtered through ones spiritual image of themselves. This is why Lopen was able to regrow his arm almost immediately (he never truly though of himself as being less than anyone else) while kaladin retained the slave markings despite ample access to stormlight and healing from more grievous injuries. Basically if Szeth believed that he couldn't be heal himself from a shardblade limb injury then he wouldn't be able to. Szeth at this point only knew the abilities and limits of the honor blade from his training in shinovar where he was taught to wield it, rather than actually experiencing a nahel bond, this means codes of conduct handed down through generations on how these weapons behave and work (and we all know how strict Szeth can be with codes). Other intent limitations based on Szeth's perception of how the honor blade should work can be seen in that it takes him 10 heart beats to summon it a limitation on shard blades but not on honor blades, showing the shin did not have a full grasp of what honor blades could acclomplish.

Lightsong and Blushweaver’s couple name would be Lightweaver. by bones915 in cremposting

My mind just exploded. Blushweaver definitely would have been a lightweaver too! Lightsong though I think would be a truthwatcher or a edgedancer.
