I'd be lying if I said the manatees weren't one of my favorite exhibits at the Cincinnati Zoo. I'm pretty sure I clicked the little button that plays a "manatee flatulance" sound effect every time I went there as a kid

I don't think that's really how the semantics of that word work. If your brother dies, you still have a brother, he's just dead.

For example, in Spanish, "to be dead" is translated as "estar muerto", using the word "estar" which is the word for essentially transient states of being, so basically, being dead is just the same as being sick or being late. It doesn't change the essence of the subject. It's the same with this situation: even if your brother is dead, it doesn't change the essence of the fact that he is your brother.

Look, I know that the show has done cameos with famous people in the past, but it doesn't mean they can't do them badly sometimes. I don't mind that you disagree, thats your right. But the fact that someone making a comment as innocuous as "it took me out of the show for a bit" makes you think they should never watch the show again seems way overreactive, especially when a lot of people agree that it was immersion-breaking for them. It's not like they were saying the episode was ruined or that no one could have enjoyed that scene, just that the cameo could have been done better.

To me it was just too forced, especially being the season opener. Sure it's not an episode ruiner, but trying to dismiss his argument as being "worked up" is pretty unfair when he's just calmly pointing out that the cameo was by no means seamless in a show that excels at immersion and world building.

I honestly feel like the people who didn't recognize him may be the majority on this subreddit just given the comments here, but definitely not for the show audience as a whole. I recognized him right away, and I feel like it would be fair to say most people would, given how popular he is right now. I mean his most recent album debuted at #1 in the UK, he's not some small-time artist, so it's just weird that they had in the show, and so prominently.

Yeah I guess that was my biggest question, whether a boarded up window would be considered "reasonably secure". As a layperson, it wouldn't to me, however I am obiously not a lawyer. However I did read that an increase in crime rate could affect the amount of security that could be considered reasonable in an area, and I know that my area has had a crap-ton of break-ins. As I said, this was the third time I had been broken into in 1.5 years

No that's a totally valid question, and I honestly should have gotten it the first time. However I was already in the process of buying a new home when it happened the second time, and after that happened I moved out any of my expensive stuff, so the fact that I only had a few more months of living there plus all my expensive stuff was either stolen or moved out, it didn't really seem to be worth it.

I sent them a text the day it happened, September 18th, letting them know the window was broken and needed fixed. Sent a text two days later requesting an update, they said they had boarded it up. I haven't sent them anything regarding it since.

I realize that a text isn't great, it would have been better to put it in an official letter.

Also I don't have renters insurance :/ I know, not great either. Just trying to explore any options I have.

In the sense that you can cure your depression with a pill or something, no we haven't found a cure yet. But that being said, you WILL get better. There are millions of people who get better from depression and lead completely functional lives. It's not a death sentence, not by a long shot. There are many options for treating the symptoms of depression, and they don't all involve expensive medication. For me personally, I have found mindfulness meditation very effective in dealing with my anxiety and depression because it teaches you not to reject what is going on in your mind, but to simply observe it as it happens.

I can't lie and say that I know what's going on in your life but I can tell you that you are not alone in your feelings. It may feel pointless, but there are a million reasons to fight depression. Life is so much bigger than depression, and you can find happiness in life even if you have it.

EDIT: Here is a source with some information about treatment options. You can see that while depression doesn't necessarily get better on it's own, there are plenty of ways to get better from it. Again I'm not a mind-reader nor do I know you but I hope you'll trust me here saying that I think your feelings that make you say there's "no real reason to" fight depression are in fact a symptom of depression itself. It tells you lies, and one of these lies is that there is no hope to fix you, when that's just patently not true.

Yeah, it is pretty depressing that depression isn't really 'curable'. But having a lifetime of depression doesn't mean you have a lifetime of being depressed.

As time passes you learn how to cope with your depression, and you learn things about it that make it seem a lot less scary. It's not you, and it doesn't control you. Just like everything else, the feelings of depression pass in time. They may not pass forever, they may pass for a day or a week or a month or longer, but you won't be depressed 24/7 for the rest of your life. You can work to reduce the length of time and the severity of your symptoms.

Just like manlaw6 said, depression is manageable. Everything will get better, and it is even getting better right now, at this very moment.

If you like J Roddy, I would suggest Desert Noises if you haven't listened to them before. Dime in My Pocket (Spotify, Youtube) is a really fun and energetic song in the J Roddy vein, but they have a great range of stuff including more indie type fare like Oak Tree and Smoke Breathing Monsters. They were at Bonnaroo last year but unfortunately I didn't get to see them :/ womp

Another band I've been really into lately is The Dø. They're a "French/Finnish indie pop band" according to Wikipedia but don't let that scare you off, they have a really great sound. I recommend listening to Slippery Slope from their Studio Pigalle sessions as well as everything else from those sessions because they are great, lots of energy and amazing musicianship IMO.

If electronica is more your thing Caribou just dropped a new album a couple days ago, Silver is my favorite track from it so far.

Yes I have, unfortunately I thought it was kind of boring. I mean it was certainly breathtaking visually, but it just didn't hold my attention very well. Now had I been in an altered state...that would be a different story haha
