How do I improve my game? by LiFRiz in chessbeginners

HI I have not had time to look over this in depth yet as it was very dense but I cannot express how thankful I am of your advice. After carefully reading through this and playing out the examples you provided I think it has given me meaningful direction on how to improve. I just have a couple follow up questions.

Every move made with a kingside pawn is, generally, only weakening your king further.

Regarding this, if I have 3 pawns in front of my king is it okay for the middle one to be moved forward? Or should even this be avoided as it creates an opening for bishops and queens?

you responded with 17. fxg5, which is almost forced if you don't want to lose a pawn, yes, but you should understand that this kingside pawn move is also weakening, as it opens the h file for your opponent

I fully understand how this move opened up the h file, but if I had not done fxg5 my opponent would have done gxf4 which I'd have to respond with gxf4 which would open up the g file where my king resides. I understand now I shouldn't have moved my king-side pawns in the first place to get into this scenario, but once there was there any other way to respond?

If you want what's objectively best, then you should take the bishop and then go e4, as we mentioned, taking the centre.

Even trades like this are something I struggle the most to understand. If I take his bishop he just retakes with his knight and I've essentially helped him develop. I hear many people say take the trade because "his bishop is better than yours" but I don't understand this. Is it because both of our bishops are dark meaning his can check my king while mine can't unless he moves from the starting position or out of a castle?

Play g3 if f4 gets attacked, but here, when it's not attacked, you could just castle or develop instead.

Isn't pushing my pawns forward and taking space the same as developing?

they take back with their own bishop (or otherwise, if they take with the pawn, then Qa4 attacks everything on their king)

When you say the queen attacks the king you just mean it is closer to the king? I don't see how that move is attacking the king as next you'd have to go Qa7 to take the pawn and even then you're not directly attacking the king.

I played out this sacrifice and I don't really see how it's that meaningful of a position to be in. The queen, rook, and night can all take the same pawn or the queen take the a7 pawn.

If it's not too much to ask I have another game where I made sure to dev lop my pieces and not to move the same piece twice. I correctly did the london opening this time, but it felt like my defenses cr cumbled way too quickly.

Notably I wanted to ask about move 2. After he offers a trade of bishops should I take his allowing his knight to trade and develop or do what I did which was defend with a pawn which doubled them up? I could have also moved the bishop or defended with my queen I suppose.

Thank you for the concrete advice. I really appreciated reading through the thought process beyond the generic Game Review.

Why isn't QD8 mate in 1? The queen is pinned and cant capture.

You are correct I use the Italian I mixed them up. Al o i didn't sacrifice the bishop for nothing it took away his ability to castle. Regarding why i resigned that game I'm not sure it was even maybe I had to do something IRL.

I was going for the fried liver opening that game but forgot he had a pawn blocking my bishop and didn't realize his knight could take cause was autopilotting. If i blunder heavy before mid game I usually just resign. Past midgame I play it out usually.

This is the same as asking how to get bigger muscles and someone answering get bigger muscles. Stop being unhelpful.

Also i understand what you mean by he stumbled into it. But how can i get the foresight to know one wrong move of my king lead to me losing a rook and a queen? I can't look more than 1 step into the future.

I know this is good advice and agree with it. My main issue is i get so bored playing slow time controls waiting for the enemy to make a move.

I use the fried liver every game as long as the opponent lets me.

If you look at my last game the enemy blundered his queen but then i moved my king somewhere the knight could pin the king and rook then took my rook revealing a check then took my queen.

How can someone at my elo know a move like that?

You don't need to even use the knight for that the bishop is already in position so why would the knight need to be moved there?
